  1. I'd love the pick. Had the injury and with Kirby taking another risk could end up bad however his upside is outrageous! Allard type risk reward guy
  2. A lot of high school pitchers and hitters who could be there for us with high ceilings! Draft is a crapshoot but I trust our scouting department. Outside of the early college run 1-5 or 6 probably rest is completely wild. One mock had us landing McClanahan.... I'd be trilled with that! But again hard to believe he falls that far. Lefties who throw 100 with pretty solid off speed stuff even with control struggles is hard to fall that far. Coming into season he was a lock top 5 to 10. Verlander type profile
  3. @Chicago South (2-1) @Cleveland (1-1) @Philadelphia (1-2) vs Chicago North (2-1) vs Philadelphia (2-1) @ Pittsburgh (2-1) vs St. Louis (2-2) vs Kansas City (2-0) @ Cincinnati (2-1) 15-11
  4. Bradin Webb has really figure things out in his last 5 starts (All in May). After awful April he is showing that talent we were excited about in the “Ben Sheets Lite” pitcher
  5. Brewers are going into a huge home series vs. Cardinals 4 games up on them with most wins, least amounts of losses, & best win percentage in National league! If we can at least take 2 of 3 that would be great way to lead into June! 5-2 vs Mets & Cards would be big win on this home stand! 6-1 with a sweep even better! June has another tough NL stretch with 6 vs Phillies, 3 vs Cubs, 4 vs. Cards, 3 vs Pirates. Mix in two verse Indians who are still a quality team. 3 vs awful White Sox, Reds, and 2 vs Royals is nice though. Come out strong in June Figure something like this: 4 of 6 Phillies 5 of 10 Cubs, Cards, Pirates 1 of 2 Indians 5 of 8 Sox, Royals, Reds 15-11 in June... 2-1 Cards 51-32 going into July..... that would be nice place to be & have a feeling a trade would happen to bring in Ace plus Nelson returning later. Just got to win these division games if we are going to continue to fend off those 3 chasing us.
  6. I drank a good amount amount tonight & after reading those above.... this is absolutely perfect! Sogard is a good bench bat.... that is about it. Villar who has played well this season simply has more god given baseball talent. On their best day, Villar is head and shoulders above Sogard. Segura had an awful 1 1/2 for us after looking like a star. We gave up on him & traded him & now he is a Star player in this league. Villar looked unreal to start his career here. Struggled from July to end of season that year. Was pretty awful until September but since.... he has been a good ball player. Not, wow he is an all-start good again but a good fit in our line up. He just had that talent that he can be as good as anyone in baseball at his position when he is on. Sogard does not. I’m glad DS & CC stuck it out with him
  7. Ehh not anything I’d call a miss. Not like we thought Bandy was the answer for future. Saved money & while some want him replaced.... I’m a fan of Pina. Think Pina & Nottingham soon will be a nice combo for us. Malay was solid not sure he would make offense that much better if he was our number 1. Pina’s defense has been very good was well. I call it wash. Nottingham will be here soon enough I hope. As for trade.... I’d prefer signing Kendell out out of FA but lol low risk, low reward move to bridge gap..... hopefully
  8. It’s huge to me. He has improved so much on K% & he is also walking! He is known for his Ks dating back to to college but he has reduced them while reaching base with walks at greater clip. He has the hands & pop so if really is starting to understand zone.... go after the right pitches & not chance bad ones, he can do damage. Guys like him it’s all about making consistent contact. Being selective at plate & going after right pitches is huge. Honestly I still not sure he has a future here but trade value has increased significantly since this off season & is trending in right direction! After month of really impressing he could put himself back in center piece convos for a pitcher.
  9. Yikes.... Bickford at 83-85 topping out at 87? Nowhere near the hard throwing kid we traded for. Bad when Suter brings more heat than you & a Chase Anderson change is where you are sitting
  10. National League is tough this year! Only 3 bad teams really in Marlins, Reds, Padres. Dodgers are not as bad as they have played. They could rip off a huge hot streak at any point when they get more healthy. Right now Central teams are tough with Cards, Cubs, Pirates combined 16 games over .500. Cubs & Cardinals both have had plenty of issues of their own. Not going to be easy. American League though....outside of the 4 teams in the West & the Yankees & Red Sox...what a joke two months that has been.... lot of subpar baseball. Put Brewers in AL Central right now, I say they win 95+
  11. Still to young in season today but winning as many games as possible early is important to give you wiggle room to struggle later. Baseball is all about streaks. Your team gets hot & cold. Right now we are hot. Without Boone Logan’s two blenders we would be 11-1 in last 12. Comes down to how long we can stay hot before we hit that next funk & how quick we can snap out of it. Trick to baseball, never get swept & avoid 1-3 four game series. Those are the absolute killers. You are dropping 2-4 games in standings in 2-4 days. Right now, we need to get through home series & May hot. No easy task. Still got Dbacks tomorrow. Mets for 4 who have Thor, DeGrom, and a bullpen who are throwing really good right now. Then Cardinals are the Cards who Brewers never have easy time handling. Best case to finish month Take 1 more from Dbacks, 3 from Mets, 2 from Cards 6-2 for 36-21 on the season Most likely 5-3 or 4-4 for 35-22 or 34-23 Possible 3-5 for 33-24 Hope not 2-6 for 32-25 Come June, I’m much more optimistic of a 90 win season 14-15 games above .500 entering June as to 7 to 9 games over. We will get cold eventually. Build up that cushion as much as possible first.
  12. Best part of our bullpen..... cheap & still controllable! Depth in minors waiting as well! We have really built a nice one! With bats & rotation being so hit or miss.... hard not to happy with where we are at right now. Just need bats to fully wake up, rotation to get healthy & produce now.
  13. This ^^^ Peralta’s fastball had outstanding movement & life, he hides it pretty well leading it to jump on hitters hitters. His command was great with fb. He sat 91-92 & topped out at 94 & struck out 13 throwing nearly all fastballs. Woodruff has a power fastball but again it is hittable. 98 but straight isn’t that tough on hitters.... look at Wily. However, when Woodruff’s off-speed is on & he can locate fb, he is very good. Hader & Peralta can live off fb because it is live & jumps on hitters. Woodruff needs off-speed & fb location to let velo dominate. Keep hitters off balanced & locate a 97-98 mph is deadly. He does that & he will be what we hope he can be
  14. I am being overly critical of Woodruff. He actually was very good in his first 23 innings giving up only 4 runs with 20 Ks.... since that first start in September though he has been simply rough to say the least. He carried a bad September into a very bad spring training, an awful 2 starts with few decent relief outings. Think most my frustration is I had high hopes for him coming into season. He did nothing in spring to deserve a 25 man spot but was happy they were going to go with him still. Then he has looked bad nearly every time he has touched the ball. Again I want him to turn it on & believe he can be good. Plenty of post over last year to support that but he has been Ben Hendrickson awful since he reported to camp when not facing AAA hitters. Again, MLB is about production. People were upset that we didn’t go buy pitching or trade away farm for pitching. We are a competitive team like it or not and he simply does not have luxury of pitching awful and working through it all season. There are guys in system, guys injuried & others come late June or July through trade who will knock him down on depth chart if he does not figure it out. Since spring, he came in not ready to compete or shown slightest hint he can be successful at this level when given a golden opportunity. He needs to figure it out. Plan & simple. 55 innings is small & now he gets inconsistent opportunities but he has to learn to rise to occasion & force Brewers to keep him in rotation
  15. From the limited amount of research I have done, seems like there should be a number of high upside high school arms for our pick on board. Seth Beer seems like he’d be on radar. His insane Bb% to K % is incredible. Has big power power upside. Wood bat concerns are there. Weird hearing how unathletic he is now & how he will be limited to 1B, maybe LF if needed. Coming out of high school it appeared he was much better in that department. I don’t know if he is a 1st round pick anymore but if there in 2nd, could be real good pick
  16. In fairness, being a top 100 prospect doesn’t mean much in terms of MLB production... def the lower parts of the list. Again I still hope he figures it out but at some point he needs to flash the talent he has at the MLB level. He has the body, the arm, the talent, now it’s time to show it. Guys like Burnes & Ortiz are licking their chops for their opportunity & like Peralta may just have, pass him up. Truth is the MLB isn’t a friendly business (usually). End of day it is about production plan & simple. I wanted Woodruff to win job & breakout. I’m cheering for him. I was so disappointed he got hurt last year. He just needs to start to produce & start to earn the right to start games. Since beginning of spring though, he has just been completely off his game at MLB level. He looked far more promising last year.
  17. Maybe pitching in CS has taught him to lean more on Fastball in Colorado but he has an above average nasty slider I expect him to use much more. Surprised to see the curve a few times though. Didn’t know he threw one at all
  18. Good gosh I would certainly hope so. Never know with the endless revolving door DS & CC operate with. Here today, gone tomorrow, repeat in few weeks lol
  19. Just remember that Jimmy Nelson took a couple years bouncing between AAA and MLB before he stuck permanently. Then he had two mediocre years before breaking out last year. Both Jimmy and Brandon struggled with control issues but good stuff. Not sure if Woodruff can follow Nelson, but its not an uncommon problem. I think both are very comparable & you hope the light clicks sooner than later. This season with rotation is his big opportunity & he just hasn’t done much to try to lay claim to a permanent spot. Still early but looking for that outing this year where he clicks & gives us some hope. He has the arm talent, now it’s just doing it. Peralta I believe earned another start today. Anderson & Guerra are only two others who are healthy & need spots. Anderson’s era is much better than actual performance. He’s leaving like 88% of runners on base which is not very sustainable for a starter. Rest of his numbers are not inspiring but track record says he will be fine. Guerra has been outstanding. Davies when back is Davies & solid. Suter has been okay. His bat has been outstanding with a .3 WAR nearly matching his .4 WAR from pitching lol
  20. Now if Woodruff could just have a 1/3 of the performance that Peralta just had, I wouldn’t be losing faith in him. I mentioned just wanting prospects to show you something to make you hopeful to help deal with any of the struggles..... well Peralta.... my word was he fun to watch today!!! Better than I could have even hoped for!
  21. At this point I am excited that Peralta is getting a chance! We want to see what we have in these guys and who are the ones who are ready to step in and get guys out. Woodruff has gotten a few looks already, hopefully he improves eventually but Corbin Burnes, Luis Ortiz, and some of those other promising arms will get looks soon as well. Figure out who are our guys for the future, who is depth, and who who to sell while there is still value.
  22. Please explain how Woodruff has looked like a 4A pitcher. Outside of Colorado he has a sub 4 ERA, FIP, and xFIP with a 10:2 K:BB in 9.1 innings. His SIERA is still under 4. His fastball has been over 95 mph in every appearance. His slider looks sharp a number of times. Of coarse its a small sample on a pitcher and a league still adjusting to one another but its hard for me to believe he isnt one of our 5 best rotation options at this point and it isnt in our best interest to give him more chances. Good pitchers have gotten hit in Colorado before.. Sorry I will define a AAAA pitcher. A pitcher who dominates AAA, gets shelled and is not effective in MLB. I could careless how great he has been in AAA. Spring training he was awful at MLB level and every opportunity he has been given so far just about at MLB level he has not been good...... Has absolutely nothing to do with his minor league numbers. It has to do with him not getting job done time and time again. Starting.....not been good.....bullpen.... not been good. I'm usually all for guys getting opportunities but I do want Brewers to win games and he is purely a liability until he figures out his command woes. Usually with prospects you are looking for positives to keep believing in them, want them to get more chances, and to give you hope .......I want him to excel but he has done absolutely nothing to inspire much hope. There hasn't really been that dominant performance where you are like, wow.... this guy could be good. Small sample but on competitive team, you need to flash at some point
  23. Excited to see what Freddy can do! Glad they are giving him a shot! Woodruff has pitched like a AAAA pitcher since spring & has done nothing to impress with the opportunities given. Peralta has a chance right now to earn some starts with strong showing! Suter is better in swing role. Edit: absolutely no clue how or why it said Wily lol guess I was remembering a time when I was eagerly waiting for debut of another Peralta future Ace.... hope this turns out better!
  24. Not sure anyone has really noticed but Payton Henry so far in May has been essential! Hitting .480 in last 6 with 2 2B, 1 3B, 2 HR.... 1.350 OPS in 25 ABs. Went from struggling .160 hitter in April to a .308 as of today! Under the radar guy still. Only 20. Hopefully his bat keeps playing!
  25. Why, do you expect him to be a star? Service time really only matters for guys who play to an All Star level or strongly outperform their positon's value. I've never seen anyone have that kind of crystal ball out on Dubon. We're talking about Mauricio Dubon here, not Kris Bryant. The chances of service time mattering for him are slim and none. Fact he is a promising prospect is good enough for me. What if he does become a big time player (never know, baseball is all ifs) he just cost a year of control which impacts both time he could stay here along with trade value down road. Brewers really like him & outside of not walking at all, he was hitting both at home & on the road very well up to injury.
