  1. Isn't Ozuna being forced out because the staff & organization want his poisoning personality out of the locker room or something like that. Talked kid. Could really click later like Gomez but if he is lazy or bad team (whatever the big issue is) we don't need those guys separating the team during the rebuild. Need great attitude leaders
  2. I wanted Ortiz at 12 or if he dropped when we went Kodi. Rumor was he was dropping due to injury so had fingers crossed but we missed on him. Obviously us skipping Gallo for Hanigar when nearly everyone on this board thought Gallo was ours. I absolutely disagree that is greedy. Gallo has proved nothing at MLB level. Unless Lucroy takes the extension his performance calls for, he may be the best value in baseball. You are getting one of the top catchers in baseball who is both a major producer on offense and solid defender for nickels on the dollar. For 3.5 million your grateful to get a Jason Kendall.....to get an All-star....that's a win. Teams don't pay up, we don't need to trade him. Like I said, as long as we don't extend him, he has just as much value as he does now. You hold out for you game changing deal
  3. If it just Lucroy and Gallo is in deal, I say you need Ortiz, Mutuella, or Luke Jackson as well. Throw in another Marcos Diplan low level-high ceiling guy like Forbes to round it out. Lucroy for Gallo, Ortiz, and Morgan would make me a happy man
  4. Gallo will K 150-200 times a season but in Miller Park, he will probably launch 40+ HRs a season..... DM would take that deal in a heartbeat. Gallo is a Chris Davis hitter. At worst Mark Reynolds. If the package around him is strong enough I take it. He has upside to be one of the best players in baseball if he is able to close up those holes a little bit..... In a trade like this, don't you want that kind of star potential?
  5. well kind of hard to trade KRod since he has been a Dodger for 2-3 weeks. But I think Will Smith is a great player to package to get an outstanding deal In no way do I trade Lind AND Jeffress to get Alex Jackson who 1) is an outfielder in A ball like the 100 we have already. 2) He has not bee that great so far. Really it is giving up Lind & Jeffress for Monte Harrison. Super high ceiling, yet to prove worth yet....I am good with Lind for Alex Jackson straight up but not throwing in our controllable closer for him......
  6. The great thing about this being leaked and out there is now everyone knows a team is strongly in on Lind. This should get all the other teams more serious into talking to DS if they truly are interested. Right now if I am a team interested in Lind and I am hearing Lind for DJ Peterson....I know I could probably top that and at least throw my offer into the hat. So what I am saying really is it should really narrow down and finalize the Lind market. We all are nearly 100% sure Lind will be gone soon. My guess with Seattle saying that they are going for Lind....a trade will be done with someone for Lind by Thursday or Friday
  7. We have discussed it in depth in this tread previously, but I think Rangers are arguably the best possible trade partner we have for Lucroy. I like their system. They have a Gallo, they have a Profar, they have an abundance of interest arms with the likes of Dillion Tate, Luis Ortiz, Michael Mutuella, and Luke Jackson. They have solid players like Ryan Cordell who fits DS's ultimate utility type player he likes and a solid MLB ready lefty in Faulkner. If we wanted OF Brinson & Mazara are close....we don't need them at all but they have them there. Then the high upside lower level guys who can boom like Eric Jenkins, Yohander Mendez, Josh Morgan, Brett Martin, Ti'Quan Forbes, Leody Taveras, Yeyson Yrizarri , Jairio Beras and so on.....we can pluck away a pretty exciting package from that!
  8. It is brutal going through their system. Jack Z was heralded for his drafting and such but yet he did just an brutal job running that team. Through trades and drafting, they are simply just awful
  9. My guess is they would take DJ Peterson and throw in high ceiling, low floor guy such as Brayan Hernandez or an arm like Nike Neidert. If it was *Alex* Jackson, I'd assume it would be a head up trade.
  10. Yeah I much prefer us taking one of the potential aces sitting right there for us. A lot can change by time draft comes though. Only real reason for taking a bat is that there are so few high impact ones as of right now. You have a better chance of hitting on an impact arm in the 2nd round than a bat. If you get Rutherford, Lowe, Perez in top 5, you may still steal a high ceiling pitcher who dropped a bit in the 2nd. This class is all about pitching with not much for bats. Lowe I think has the talent to shot up the boards this spring and make himself worth consideration at 5. Rutherford has to have a terrible spring and show no ability to make contact in order top drop out of top 5-10 range. Reed & Lewis are very hit or miss. I'd gladly take a pitcher 10/10 times over even considering Ray and Reynolds. Reynolds may hit and get on base a lot but has a noodle arm, okay speed, limited power. He is a high floor guy. Ray is solid all around guy but doesn't have that 1 plus tool that makes his ceiling high enough for a top 5 pics.
  11. Could not agree more. Happy its not just me that thinks half of these packages are no where near good enough for Lucroy. Maybe I'm too high on him, but looking at the market for catchers and how cheap he is, I would be livid if we didn't get much more than some of these packages. Edit - I'd like to add we got Phillips as the center piece for the Gomez trade as reference. I would imagine we should be able to get a similar ranked prospect (20-30) at the very least, as center piece for Lucroy PS. Long time lurker, first time poster. Good to be here! Well essentially it was Santana, Hader, Houser for Gomez, Astros wouldn't include Phillips until Fiers was offered. Overall like I said before and others have said....I don't get why we want to trade one of the top catchers in baseball who makes no money at all over the next three years for some replacement level guys. Reed has a lot of upside but not a centerpiece. Drury is no where close to being a centerpiece. Maybe a 2nd piece like Bradley and Drury plus one more low floor, high ceiling guys. If a team isn't going to over pay, wait until All-Star break when they will (assuming he is healthy and playing like Luc plays)
  12. For Lucroy....Archie Bradley better be in the deal in my opinion. In no way do I think Drury is a center piece for a Lucroy trade
  13. In no way I think Peralta's value is that much higher than Lamb's. He has a little more track record, however, has more service time lined up. I have a feeling the best we could possible do if Lamb is included would be Peralta for Lamb & a prospect in lower levels who is a low floor- high ceiling Diplan type. The need a quality starter who is controlled and we need a quality 3B who is controlled. Both teams fill their holes. If we want O'Brien to, we will most likely have to throw in another prospect
  14. Mayo and Callis have put out their 2016 mock draft and top 50. Much different than what I was previously seeing. Same Groome, Hansen, Puk, Pint, Rutherford talk at the top but outside of that, they have it all shuffled up. Mock Draft http://m.mlb.com/news/article/158643882/callis-mayo-predict-top-10-picks-in-mock-draft Top 50 http://m.mlb.com/news/article/158672524/jason-groome-no-1-on-2016-top-50-draft-list?topicid=151437456 They have a who bunch of college hitting OF's at the top of the draft which as of right now I most don't touch. Ray doesn't excite me at all nor does Reynolds, high floor type guys with good not great ceilings. Reed & Lewis are raw high ceiling guys. Reed is a switch hitting Cain to me that may take awhile to figure out his swing. Lewis is a small school guy who could be a stud RF down the road. Banks will be in discussions as well. Only 3 HS OF bats as of now appear to be striking distance (they didn't even include Beer in top 50 so Pint and Beer could still happen!) Rutherford appears to be a lock in the top 5-10. Mickey Moniak appears to be this years Trent Clark pure professional hitter. Benson is said to have scouts crying Hayward and at 6'6 220 has massive power potential from the corner. To me if I am going to go OF at #5 (which as of now Rutherford maybe Reed/Lewis if they go nuts this spring): Rutherford Reed Lewis --------- Moniak Ray Banks Benson Reynolds At 3B a lot of good HS bats there, some that may slip to 2nd round Lowe is my favorite, I think he is one to consider at 5 if you are going Bat Mendoza, Kieboom, Jones all stand chances of dropping to 2nd round Really this draft is all about the arms. They have Tyler, Anderson, Bergner ranked 26, 28, 31.....few months ago those guys were getting top 10 love. I know everyone loves Arcia, however I still consider taking Perez at #5. I think he will be a top prospect in the near future. Never draft based on position right?
  15. By the time we are competitive again, he will need to be paid. I personally prefer not to trade him yet. Last year he was hurt so value is down and I want to see if it is possible for him to really become the starter we hoped he could be. As of now he has shown to not be much more than a middle-back end of rotation guy. He will give you a 4.20 FIP a 6.5 K/9. He is essentially a big body, ground ball pitcher. He will be 27 in May so it is getting close for him to prove his worth. I hardly say Lamb is simply giving Peralta away. He just turned 25, isn't Arb Eligible until 2018, FA until 2021. In his first real season he was able to get on base by hitting .263 with .331 OBP (not too bad). Not to mention he was Fangraphs runner up for top defensive 3B in MLB. Is minor league CAREER (247 Games) .321/.408/.552 (.960 OPS) smoked 84 2Bs 10 3Bs 37 HRs and 195 RBIs We have pitchers coming soon while we have no 3Bs coming for the next 3-4 years at the earliest in our current system. Peralta hasn't pitched in a way that make him really that important to our future. Lamb at least gives us control of an average offensive bat with gold glove caliber defense.... I would make that trade in a heart beat
  16. If it is going to be Peralta, Lamb and Reed will work for me. Depends on how high DBacks are on Drury. He is a guy who has hit a lot in the minors and wouldn't be a bad target if you are going for a minor league arm over Lamb (Shipley or Blair)
  17. Honestly if I am trading with D-Backs I want a Braves deal. They take Garza and all his salary. We take Aaron Hill and his 12 million then they throw in a young talented arm like Cody Reed who is a big body 19 year old who gets ton of Ks (currently throws low 90's has touched 94-95) Hill over the last 2 years is a .240 hitter with a .285 OBP in last year at contract. He can play all over the infield (valuable to Stearns) and 3B. I think it is very worth it to eat his contract over Garza's. We at least have some use to him, all Garza is doing is wasting a spot for Lopez, Hader, Houser, or Wagner
  18. Awesome Chart! Only thing missing is our top catching prospect who is going to blow up in AA this season now he is finally 100% healthy and back in the groove....Dustin Houle! Be a huge breakout year for him.
  19. Or maybe they looked better because Denver is a horrible team playing with two banged up guards. Look, I have no problem with tweaking the line-up to see what works, but way too early to call this move a big success. I do agree I would limit the minutes Giannis and Parker play together at this point, if the goal was to win games this year. However, if they really are the future of this team then the more they play together, the better. It's nice to see the defense is back the last couple games, they need to keep that intensity. Both Giannis and Jabari need the ball in their hands to continue developing their offensive games. This can be accomplished more so if they are not sharing the floor. Towards the end of this season and next year they will need to learn how to share the ball and work together offensively. they still have plenty of time to figure out how to play alongside each other. They would be fine together if Jabari finally started to play a stretch 4 http://vorped.com/1-nba/2015-2016/player/1790/jabari-parker/shotchart/ He is not stretching the floor what so ever. He is 0-1 only at 3's, 6 for 24 outside of the paint (25%), and then he is scoring almost exclusively inside the paint 28-53 (53%).... Moreover, the only place he makes any baskets is on the leftside from 10 ft in (24-37, 65%) He is 10 for 41 everywhere else on the court..... 48 out 78 shots have been right next to the basket. You take his shooting and his complete lack of rebounding.....that isn't helping the team at all. Giannis's shooting outside of the paint is killing as well.8-25 (32%) for 3 & 7-24 (30%) between outside of paint-inside of three. So we have Parker, Giannis, MCW (4-18 22% at 3, 11-30 for 2's outside of paint 38%) who do not stretch floor at all. Monroe for a center at least has a good jumper teams need to repect, however 168 of 208 shots are still in the paint. Middleton is only starter who creates any space at all on the floor, Bayliss does great job as well. Mayo, Vasquez, Copeland are all struggling bad for 3, all shooting in the 20%'s. Mayo at least is 5 for 7 at 2's outside of paint. Essentially we are the slowest offense in the NBA with no ability to score outside of the paint. It is one thing to be running the court and getting all your points in paint off fast breaks.....Bucks are not though. We get into offense, run it, if we can't get inside, we miss our jumpers with almost most no chance at rebounding the ball
  20. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-baseball/25231897/look-jae-gyun-hwang-unleashes-mother-of-all-bat-flips-after-hr After you watch this, how could you not want him on the Brewers. Jose Bautista has absolutely nothing on Gyun-Hwang. Hoenstly, he has good size, could hit 10-15 HRs while probably giving you a solid .260/.340/.400. Most of Japanese players are usually strong defenders. He is in his prime. He doesn't need to be the future. If he gives you 2-3 years of consistent baseball the way Aoki did, that is a win.
  21. Gennett is not a very good defender. He has gotten better over the years, however, since he was drafted his ceiling defensively at the very best would be average. Brewers have always loved his bat and once he removed his head from his butt in June/July he went about his business in his usual .300 hitter way. He is very good vs righties. Struggles in every attempt he gets vs Lefties. His okay defense, platoon only offense, his inability to walk, and his K's don't make his stock very high, nor a piece for us to build around.
  22. The GM typically only sees a few possible first round picks and gives input on those players only. 99.9% of the draft is left to the scouts, crosscheckers and scouting director. Yeah this absolutely drives me insane when people talk like the GM drafts players in baseball. The GM has a lot on his plate, yet people believe at the same time he is able to scout every amateur and then be responsible for 40 rounds of drafting as well. He may help give his input in the 1st round when the director says here are the guys we are really high on. It is Ray who makes the tough calls for 40 rounds. It is his job and responsibility. Ray & his staff that get to hang their hats on Trent Clark, Cody Ponce, & Demi O. Same as it is Zach Minasian and his pro directing staff who gets to hang their hat just as much if not more than DM for Phillips, Santana, Hader, Houser trade. Zach and his staff scout the guys, target the guys, and give GM the name of the people to go get in that system as well as what they think the value is. GM is a little more involved in trades than drafting, however, he doesn't have the time to scout every times entire minor league systems. A GM is only as good as the staff he surrounds himself with.
  23. It is nice being in the AL, you can always add a bat and make a place for him.
  24. There is zero reason to give up on Ponce as a starter. From every report in instructional league he was sitting mid to upper 90s. To base everything off 46IPs of minor league baseball following a college ace workload..... As I said before they profile very similar to Peralta & Nelson. You run them as starters until it is time to make a choice down the road when they are to useful to waste away in AAA but theres no room for them in rotation. Maybe they will be bullpen pieces down the road but that doesn't mean you drag their value through the mud now. RP is last resort for any true pitching prospect. If you have the talent to start, you keep on starting. SPs are so much more valuable than RPs
  25. Why are you giving up on Ponce & Houser so fast as starters? Nelson and Peralta are built just as big with power arms...should we move them to the Pen as well? Both since join the Brewers mid season have been dominant and have shown no reason why they can't be starters. Since starters hold a whole lot more value, you ride that out until they are too good in the minors with no spot open in MLB rotation. Then you decide what they will be going forward. I don't play fantasy baseball but the fact Hellwig couldn't even come close to getting the ball over the plate and when he did he was being shelled by A+ hitters in the worst offensive league in all of minor leagues.... Not expecting much out of him.
