  1. This was my take as well. A tough matchup, and probably very close to a coin flip. I'd make the Brewers slight favorites. As a Brewer fan: Freeman is a big concern. Every run is gonna be gold, and he has a consistent record of homers at AmFam. If I were a Braves fan: Can Will Smith close postseason games? Especially when it's likely they'll be low-scoring and close.
  2. Braves have the better offense. They hit a lot of home runs (2nd in the NL). Woodruff, Burned, and Peralta will be the three best pitchers in the series. Hader is a lot better than Will Smith at the back end of the pen. Season series was 3-3. Each team won an extra innings game. Will be interested to see where the models have it. I'll take Brewers in 4, but this is one of those series where no outcome would surprise me. If Freeman does what he does at AmFam, and the offense goes into all-time hero mode, it'll be a quick exit. Two evenly matched teams. Should be fun.
  3. 538 actually has the Braves better than the Brewers overall. Now, when you adjust for Peralta, Woodruff, and Burnes pitching the highest % of innings, that likely changes. Still, I think the NLDS matchup is fairly even. The Braves have a sneaky good top 3 of their own, and their offense is good. I would've preferred the Phillies if I had my pick. Still think we're slight favorites, but I'd be surprised if this was the 2018 NLDS. Should go 4 or 5. One thing for sure: I bet there will be a lot of afternoon starts, especially since the other NLDS could be all West Coast and will definitely feature the marquee markets.
  4. Yup. Anderson was worth every penny. Ate innings, kept the team in most games, allowed the big three to rest and recover. Good luck to him.
  5. This was my thought as well. And by potential option I mean something like 5-10% shot, but may as well see if he can make it a tougher decision in games that don't matter.
  6. Just great pitching tonight. 11 more shutouts (starting October 8th), and it's coming home.
  7. Sure is looking like it'll be the Braves. Not sure that matters in terms of pitching, but it's a deep offense, so the ability to throw a lot of good pitchers out there will help.
  8. Yeah, Rowdy and Vogelbach both have something to play for for sure. As do Bradley and a good part of the bullpen.
  9. Alright, so let's do the math on this. Devin was going to cover, what? 7 innings in a 5-game series? At most? So, can you make that up with Strickland/Houser/Hader/Ashby/Cousins? If it's me, I'm putting Strickland/Cousins in the Devin role and just adding Gustave as the blowout guy to the back end of the NLDS roster. The probably gives someone like Suter a higher leverage index, but I think you can get to the point where it has more attritional impact than anything.
  10. Ouch. It's all been said. Frustrating. Ashby/Houser probably just became multi-inning, high-leverage relievers. I'll play blind optimist: Devin has looked mortal this year. The changeup has been good, but he's struggled with location. It's a blow to lose him, but there may be ways to use SP depth to avoid a big drop-off. Probably puts more pressure on Woody/Burnes to throw more innings and Hader to go beyond an inning too.
  11. Mariners win their 11th straight against Oakland, now 0.5 back. Unreal. Going to be a fun weekend. Yeah, and that place was intense the last two nights. I think the AL is where the action will be going forward. Giants and Braves looking like they'll take care of business in the NL.
  12. Yeah, glad we can rest Wily. I think the quad is going to be a factor for him probably throughout the postseason. Get it as rested as possible and then hope it's something that he can play through.
  13. Thanks, man. Was thinking about your posts here during this win streak. Good to know there's one Cardinal fan I think is cool
  14. Would be nice to do our part to delay the Cardinals playoff celebration. Also, fun to watch some no-pressure baseball.
  15. Yeah, I don't think there's any doubt Peralta has been the more valuable pitcher for the Brewers over the past year. He has better swing-and-miss stuff. He's more likely to put up a big game score. I just think the question is more like: Who's most likely to put the Brewers in position to win a postseason game? Lauer hasn't given up more than 3 runs in a start since mid-June. Peralta's done that twice in the past month. Now, maybe he'll be healthier in the postseason, and I think it's a close call. I think Freddy for sure has the higher ceiling. I just also think Lauer has the higher floor, and that's why I'd start Freddy if we have a two game lead and can afford to gamble and Lauer (with Freddy ready) if it's even.
  16. Maybe the 6 mph is peak? I have seen Freddy throw 95-96, and a couple of his FBs were 90-91. I'm not worried about it, but maybe that's what DHonks meant. I'm with others in that Freddy makes me more nervous than he probably should. His delivery with the toe-taps just seems unsustainable and like it makes him more wild and therefore inconsistent. He's a very good pitcher. A really good guy to have on the hill in a game 3 with a 2-0 lead. Then again, so's Lauer. Put it this way: if the baseline is 3 runs in 6 innings, I think Freddy's got a higher standard deviation. I'd expect Lauer to hit 2 runs in about 5-6 most of the time. Freddy wouldn't surprise me if he gave up 4 in 4 or threw 8 scoreless. Just a wider confidence interval, which is maybe why I'd lean Freddy up 2-0 and throw Lauer at 1-1. If we're down 0-2, I'm bullpening like crazy. Strickland, Cousins, Williams, Hader, with Ashby/Freddy/Lauer/Houser all available for no more than an inning or two.
  17. Um....Wow. that was impressive on both ends.
  18. Lauer/Peralta is a good problem. I would not hesitate to use either out of the pen to help nail down a Game 1 or 2 victory and leave the other for Game 3. The other option is to use one for Game 4 and to let Woody/Burnes/Hader try to cover 9 in a potential Game 5. All very dependent on the scenario. I wouldn't be surprised if we went Woody/Burnes, as opposed to Burnes/Woody, but I would go with the latter.
  19. Also possible to have a 3-way or 2-way tie for the AL Wild card. Looks like the Yankees are going to be one-up on the Red Sox, who will be one-up on TOR and two-up on SEA.
  20. For sure. At the very least, we want the Phillies to keep that close as long as possible.
  21. I choose Cubs walk-off/5-run inning. Let Hader drink a beer in the pen. He's earned it.
