  1. The projection systems are not reading into anything, though. They're not perfect, but they are about rosters, matchups, rest, and home field. That's it. ZIPS game-by-game projections has the Brewers favored a little less than 54-46. Like all playoff baseball, I think this result is going to be essentially random. Doesn't mean I'll enjoy it any less or root any more passively, though.
  2. I've heard lots of talk about the very down AL Central and the White Sox lack of success against good teams. Their lineup is very, very good, but they haven't had to face good hitting very much. I know the Brewers made the AL Central look good, but playing half your games against that collection of lineups would make a lot of pitching staffs look good.
  3. Yup, everything I have seen suggests a toss-up series against Atlanta. I expect these to be contested, low-scoring games. The one thing that worries me: should one of the ace starters falter and go down 3, 4 nothing early, it's going to be tough for the Crew to climb back out. I suppose that's always the case, but the 2011 Brewers never felt out of it down 3. If I'm an Atlanta fan, OTOH, I'm worried about the late innings. That's when the Brewers tend to perform best, and the ATL bullpen is decent but not great. Can they handle playoff pressure? I hope not.
  4. Honestly used to it in the playoffs. October baseball is prolonged emotional torture, and that's part of its charm. Tougher to deal with in the regular season, of course...
  5. Like how they are doing it…. Don’t need to see that box on every pitch. Replays? Sure. I'm kind of with you. It's sort of fun in the sense that it's just harder to complain about balls and strikes when you don't have the frame of reference for every pitch. Makes it feel like ten years ago.
  6. Me neither. You gotta have a better angle than that...there are sooo many cameras. MLB replay, man.
  7. If you'd have told me Billy McKinney would be playing first base in the NL Wild Card, I would have never guessed it would be as a Dodger.
  8. Schildt should be challenging that. Looked like he came off in the stupidest use of replay sense Edit: No matter, I guess.
  9. And Arrieta was untouchable. I remember that game well. The Central was as good as the West is this year, probably better. Cubs, Cards, Pirates all won nearly 100 games.
  10. Putting it right up there with 1999 Pedro puts it all in perspective. Burnes is an all-time SP for Milwaukee, and his 2021 is right up there with the best seasons ever. Man. This is a historically great pitching staff. Great article is right.
  11. Thought this FanGraphs piece was interesting. It thinks the Brewers are the second-worst team in the playoff field, but they have the 4th highest WS odds. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/fangraphs-power-rankings-playoffs-edition/ I'm not breaking new ground when I say this team needs GREAT starting pitching to win. But they're fully capable of getting that. It's all so random in October. If the offense can put together a random hot streak, maybe get up to around 4 runs/game, I'll feel pretty good.
  12. 538 looks to have the Braves as slight favorites at the moment, but the Brewers will be slight favorites in Games 1 and 2 once Woodruff is announced as the G2 starter. Looks to me like Atlanta will be something like 55-45, 56-44 favorites in the ATL games, and the Brewers will be 52-48 or so in the MIL ones. Going to be a tight series. I like our odds if we can split the first two. Brewers pitching depth should help the later in the series.
  13. Red Sox have come back to tie it in Washington. Was 5-1 Nats. Yanks and Rays scoreless in the ninth. Jay's will win. M's will lose. Really hope one of Tampa/Washington can pull it out late to give us a tiebreaker tomorrow.
  14. Yeah, Gus has been at self-parody levels for awhile now. I'm not really one for manufactured excitement. That's the best part of BA, really. He lets the moment be the moment and knows he's good enough that he doesn't need to script calls and catchphrases. As for the football, this Badger teams reminds me of Nebraska about ten years ago. Two decades removed from being great, having been consistently very good, and now staring at mediocrity and worse for who knows how long...
  15. I mean...I have no idea what the "best" way to play this week was, but I'm gonna go ahead and trust the Brewers process and analytics on rest versus readiness. If this team hasn't earned people's trust in terms of their intelligent strategy (which of course fails sometimes because it's baseball), we're watching different teams.
  16. The Red Sox are gonna drop one to the Nats. I feel it. Either that, or the Yanks are getting swept by the Rays. I think the door's gonna be open for Seattle/Toronto if they win the next two.
  17. Not really what I meant. Just that postseason baseball is enough of an emotional trainwreck that I don't need the added stress of maybe having to watch the Cardinals celebrate. I believe in this team as much as any Brewer team of my lifetime. Losing will suck no matter who it happens to and when. IF I am going to have to face that disappointment, though, I'd rather it not be the Cardinals on the other side of it. I kind of want another shot at the Dodgers too. Maybe that's crazy, but I don't think Scherzer and Kershaw are healthy. We can take them in a 7-game series.
  18. You overestimate our offense. Harbaugh rightfully showing his lack of respect for them. Twice. Yeah, even a short field feels very long. Sigh.
  19. Well, yeah. The seratonin crash associated with losing to the Cardinals is the very definition of negative reinforcement, outside all logic. Dodgers are the better team. But it wouldn't feel nearly as bad losing to them.
  20. I know the analytics say going for it on 4th and short is the right call at midfield, but I just don't think you want to give a struggling offense a short field. I don't think Wisconsin is very good, but it would be very nice to deflate all the optimism in Ann Arbor.
  21. Turner HR. Trea. Kind of a cheapy. He hit it hard but mainly to the right part of the park.
  22. This was my take as well. A tough matchup, and probably very close to a coin flip. I'd make the Brewers slight favorites. As a Brewer fan: Freeman is a big concern. Every run is gonna be gold, and he has a consistent record of homers at AmFam. If I were a Braves fan: Can Will Smith close postseason games? Especially when it's likely they'll be low-scoring and close.
