  1. Mildly confirmed / alluded to today by Stearns. Mildly confirmed...that's some kind of stretch. I saw the same quote, he didn't even remotely confirm anything. The only thing he did was leave open the possibility of any of those guys either starting or relieving.
  2. I understand why you'd feel that way looking at the splits but the GM of the Brewers just stated the exact opposite. "We are excited to add another talented left-handed reliever to our bullpen," said general manager David Stearns said in a statement. "Over his young Major League career, Alex has proven to be one of the most consistent and durable lefty relievers in baseball." Unless I missed a quote that directly pertains to Claudio I don't see any confirmation from Stearns that he's going to be a multi-inning guy. One of the beat writers posted like a 50-60 second video of Stearns comments, and he specifically references looking for a set of criteria(multi-inning being one) and Stearns notes that Claudio checks all those boxes.
  3. +1 across the board here...
  4. So basically what you're saying is, this is a very good trade for the Brewers 80% of the time and a very bad trade for the Brewers 20% of the time. There will obviously be some middle ground there, but pending teh draft pick...we clearly are going to win this trade more often than we lose.
  5. I'm completely fine with this move as I see a LOOGY as necessary on most rosters and cringe when fans complain about a situation like LOOGY Jennings coming in to face Scooter in a key moment. That said, he's basically a cheaper, more controllable version of Jennings. So he is exactly what "people complained about" and probably will continue to complain about even if it is the right move. Oh man, the in game threads were filled with people upset that we would put in Jennings to face a lefty. How dare you play matchups and try to maximize your chances of success? That's pure insanity!
  6. Claudio just had a bad year. He's no more of a sure thing than any other reliever. He had a down year, but not a bad year. And this down year was driven very heavily by BABIP. He still crushed lefties, even last year in his down year.
  7. This is where JosephC and his analysis comes in handy...
  8. It's hard to know what the asking prices are on these guys. Every team that lost a lefty is probably looking at these guys as well. If these guys end up getting 2/16 type deals, this deal looks fine. Plus, I'd argue Claudio is better than most of those guys.
  9. I don't have the exact numbers in front of me but I'd wager that hitting the ball out of the park to LF in Miller Park and LF in Arlington are not much different. Probably easier for someone to hit a HR to RF off of Claudio in Texas by a little bit but probably not a huge deal with righty hitters overall. Fair enough. His value is primarily going to come from getting LH hitters out anyway. I do imagine he'll improve against RH hitters this year compared to last. Last year was his worst year by far against them, heavily babip driven.
  10. And we gave up a draft pick and around $2 million of our bonus pool for this. Just wonderful. I actually highly doubt this guy spends much time if any in AAA. Just because he has an option, doesn't mean we have any intention of exercising it.
  11. Claudio road stats - 258/300/349 Claudio home stats - 288/322/416
  12. I would be curious what his stats are against RH hitters on the road over his career. That stadium is such a launching pad, he could be more effective against RH hitters when not in that stadium.
  13. REgarding his contract, he will have 3 years of arbitration and be a FA in 2022. Projected by mlb trade rumors at 1.3M this year. Not a ton of payroll added for what appears to be an effective LH reliever.
  14. I don't hate giving up the pick, this guy throws mid 80s. How is he so effective?
  15. I feel like Tampa is getting the short end of the stick on this trade unless the PTBNL is solid. Bauers is a very good prospect, big time power. I would expect him to improve at the MLB level this year.
  16. Another guy tweeted that Encarnacion is actually NOT going to Tampa. The trade should be officially announced soon.
  17. For the indians, man this is a good trade. Bauers projects very well and can play OF or 1B. I assume Kipnis moves back to 2b and Ramirez to 3b and Santana/Alonso at 1b/DH. Indians still probably need a RH outfielder, but otherwise they have a pretty set and very solid roster. Bauers hits LH, they have very few solely RH hitters. Mostly LH or switch. The catcher Perez might be the only one. Domingo Santana would fit so well on that team...
  18. Looks like Brewers took Julio Garcia. To me, seems like an excellent glove that can't hit. Not a bad depth guy for the system. Edit - AAA phase.
  19. This trade is getting a bit wild. Bauers going to Cleveland from TB, Diaz going from Cleveland to TB.
  20. I wonder if anyone else is involved. Santana has 2/41 left on his deal with a 17.5M option and 500k buyout. Encarnacion only has 1/21.7 left with a 20M option and 5M buyout. This trade gets Seattle out from under the contract quicker. The Indians getting Santana clears their DH spot a bit, allowing them to add there if they choose.
  21. Agreed, this isn't really a logical target for us.
  22. I really like Murphy as a target, as he can help out at 1b if needed.
  23. I don't mean to be one to defend Miley here, but I'm not so sure his hr ratio is all that flukey. He had the best GB/FB ratio of his career and the lowest FB rate of his career. Along with that, his IFFB rate was the second highest of his career. The numbers seem to indicate when guys barreled him up, it tended to be line drives or on the ground more often than not...and that's not overly surprising given the pitches he throws(a well placed cutter is very tough to elevate). The BABIP is probably a bit lucky but also somewhat attributable to the high GB/FB rate and the Brewers excellent shifting. I'm not going to say he wasn't at least a little lucky. Something in the 3.2-3.4 range probably would have made sense for him last year were luck not a factor. And again, I don't really want to bring him back for my prior concerns...I just don't think he was overly lucky.
  24. I know not many are sticklers for this sort of thing like me, but I was really turned off by his comments in spring last year. The crux of it was something like "I realized I was on my way out of the game, so I worked really hard this offseason". To me, that comes off as he didn't really work that hard any prior offseasons...and gives me immediate work ethic concerns. To the point that I don't know that I want the Brewers to bring him back outside of a super cheap deal...which is probably unlikely for him given his season. I'm sure I'm in the minority and he could very well have a good season, that's my biggest concern with him though.
  25. I saw 3/27 for Kelly with the Dodgers. 3/30 for Familia with the Mets.
