  1. The Blue Jays are probably looking to hit the reset button for the most part, for the Vlad-led youth movement. They have other very good prospects in their system to go with Vlad.
  2. Shaw and Davies. Davies is a Boras client, so there will certainly be some delusion regarding his value.
  3. Unfortunately, Pina is in the same boat as Grandal. He's much better career against RHP than LHP, about 100 OPS better. If I remember correctly, Arcia is a reverse splits guys as well. Having a 2b that can mash lefties is going to be pretty important.
  4. At minimum, it gives the Dodgers more leverage. I personally am hoping the Marlins end up holding Realmuto. I want them to get punished for their obscene asking price.
  5. Blue Jays will be eating a significant portion of contract. I haven't seen exact terms yet. This seriously hurts the chances of the Marlins getting a strong return for Realmuto.
  6. I understand the general idea of what you're proposing, I simply doubt it happens. I strongly doubt it in fact. This is a viable strategy in September with unlimited rosters and in the playoffs when you play 5 games in 7 days after 3 days off. I'd literally bet my house that the Brewers have 13 pitchers on the active roster more often than 11. And I also firmly believe we'll have a fairly standard rotation and bullpen. The bullpen will definitely have more multi-inning relief guys than previously, but multi-inning relievers aren't exactly a brand new cutting edge strategy. Those multi-inning relievers will be necessary considering we'll probably have at least one of Burnes/Peralta/Woodruff in the rotation along with many sub-par rotation pieces that generally average something like 5.5 innings per start.
  7. I think this all but seals it that MM will not be a Yankee. Torres, Andujar, DJ, Did, Tulo all for 3 spots. You could make room, but adding DJ and MM considering in house options wouldn't make a lot of sense.
  8. I would be a bit surprised if any of our 6 remaining players didn't reach an agreement today.
  9. This is generally detrimental to small market clubs. Trying to balance big market clubs, small market clubs, and players wants/desires is going to be extremely difficult. I think the right answer is basically the nfl model. Salary cap, salary floors, drastically increased revenue sharing, significantly decreased team control. Big markets would hate it, I can't imagine players would dislike it assuming the floors/caps guaranteed players what they considered a fair market share. If the floors were set at 42% of revenue and the caps around 50%...can't see how they could complain.

  11. I'll remind all that grandal is significantly better against rhp than lhp. I would never stack him and shaw against lhp. We have the bats that it isn't difficult to do
  12. I wouldn't be surprised if offers kept trickling up and up and up for gonzalez, thus the delay. As noted, pretty much every borderline contender could use him.
  13. That's the whole GMs getting smarter thing. 32 year old catchers aren't worth 5/80. Trick is to find a way to pay players more in their more productive years while maintaining competitive balance.
  14. Official deal is 2/20 per this guy. I would have liked Lowrie too, but after getting Grandal it simply wasn't in the cards.
  15. I would guess 2/24 for Lowrie.
  16. CC was on record saying he was only looking for 17 outs from the SP or something along those lines. Before the game started CC already knew when he was going to pull the SP independent of how the game was going. Frankly, I can't believe CC would say something so stupid and ridiculous. So if one of our pitchers was throwing a perfect game through 17 outs...he's pulling him anyway. No way would CC back himself into a corner like that. Unless you have a source, I wouldn't buy that for a second.
  17. Well, this isn't true. Don't buy the propaganda from anti-union billionaires. MLB player salaries as a percentage of Revenue have plummeted between 2002 and 2008 and are hovering just below 40% currently. That's a BILLION dollars the players were shorted in salaries this season. https://deadspin.com/the-mlbpa-is-failing-its-players-1822305159 It actually seems to have remained pretty steady between 2008 and 2018 based on the evidence you presented...swinging no more than 1-2% from the midpoint. There have been labor negotiations since 2008 without major issues. And saying the players were shorted that amount of money is incredibly entitled and dramatic...and that's me putting it as nicely as I can.
  18. I can completely understand why GM's don't want to give massive awful contracts to top players. But this is the sticking point. All these top players are severely underpaid during their prime/best years, and the primary reason for this is competitive balance. So teams like the Brewers have a chance. I can't think of a good way to protect the players from more savvy GM's and keep a level playing field that doesn't involve a drastic increase in revenue sharing...along with salary caps/floors.
  19. Justin Bour is 31 & put up a 126 OPS+ between 2017 & 2018 in 930 PAs. He is getting 1/2.5 million for 2019. Matt Adams is 30 & put up a 110 OPS+ between 2017 & 2018 in 704 PAs. He is getting 1/3 million for 2019 with a million dollar buyout on a 2020 option. Eric Thames is 32 & put up a 119 OPS+ between 2017 & 2018 in 829 PAs. At 1/6 million for 2019 plus the million buyout for 2020 he probably has slightly negative value with guys like Lucas Duda (33, 109 OPS in 858 2018-18 PAs) & Logan Morrison (31, 110 OPS+ in 960 2017-18 PAs) still out there looking for teams. In fairness to Thames, he does have flexibility to play OF. I don't think any of those guys do. I think Thames is closer to Bour/Adams in talent than the other two, and frankly I'm a bit surprised those guys took the deals they did. Adams had a solid year...he probably could have done better than $3 million, Bour had a bit of a down year but clearly is talented. Morrison frankly was a 1 year wonder and was basically trash his entire career aside from 2017. Overall I'd rank these guys Adams, Thames, Bour, Duda, massive gap, Morrison in terms of bat talent. Thames versatility is a bit of a bonus. In Thames favor is he's probably the best LH 1b available as Bour/Adams have signed. I'm not trying to say he has significant surplus value, but I think we could get someone to take most or all of his salary and give us someone interesting in the low minors. Probably not quite as much as the lind deal, but maybe 1 or 2 players in return instead of 3. Would you give Thames and $2 million for 2 rookie ball pitchers with promise similar to the lind deal?
  20. Based on your logic...Josh Hader is probably pissed off at everybody in the clubhouse with his league min salary with the production he provides.
  21. Who's ready to see some of this quick screen game?
