  1. His trade value is quite insane right now, just curious others thoughts on who you'd consider trading him for...or if he's just a hard off limits even for a Trout/Ohtani/etc type talent. I've always believed personally in baseball that there's a price for every player. Curious what others think.
  2. I don't think it's fair to just punt top draft picks because we aren't as good at player development. It's certainly one thing to know your strengths, and it wouldn't be a bad strategy to heavily draft pitching and plan to develop and trade it for value to acquire hitters. I've been reluctant in prior years to make bold moves and create a "window", but it's tough to imagine replacing guys like Woodruff/Burnes...and we'll never realistically keep either for a price we can afford. I could get on board with aggressive moves this deadline to take a shot at a 2 year type window, though Chourio is still off limits 1000%.
  3. This comment will be more fair in 2 days IF we don't make a big move. Making an assumption as to what will happen and then crying on the fan forums about it is weird.
  4. 2 things on burger, he's a highly rated draft pick with some upside remaining...and take a look at his splits. He obliterates left handed pitching and has done so the last 2 years. He'd be an ideal player to short side platoon and ensure he only hits against lefties. For that reason, it doesn't make sense unless it's a low offer and with all the team control I don't think we'll match up with them value-wise. Valuing non established players with lots of team control is very difficult and has a wide range of valuations.
  5. The prospect cost will surely be too high. I can't imagine they would pull the trigger without chourio or both of black/mis, and those offers probably include players to go with them. I really like this potential 2 year window but don't want to get stuck down by the pirates beyond 2024.
  6. The announcers in my opinion. But my God somebody start sending out tissues to these cry babies
  7. Pirates forums are hilarious "by the time this kid is ready to contribute, our window will be shut". Umm, what window? Y'all haven't had a window since Clint Hurdle was your manager.
  8. It's interesting looking at fangraphs defensive numbers. he's a negative in UZR, error rate, and range this season, but 6 DRS. Most prior years he's positive in all that. My guess would be small sample and that he's not THAT good to be a 6 DRS player, but should be positive in most of the categories he's negative. He's carried a reputation as a plus defender there for a long time.
  9. Carlos Santana carries a 1.038 career OPS in 44 PA at Miller Park/American Family Field...
  10. I'm not sure if this is serious. Rendon is owed $130m through 2026. I don't think the Angels would pay enough to bring that down to even a market value contract so he could play for the Brewers.
  11. https://www.fangraphs.com/standings/playoff-odds This says we actually are tied for the easiest remaining schedule in baseball. After this weekend, it'll for sure be the easiest. After we play the braves, we have series against the Nationals, Pirates, and Rockies. If we don't win at least 7 of those 10, it will be disappointing.
  12. Regarding prospect rankings, you can have all the raw talent and stat lines in your late teens/early 20s...but other guys will catch you unless you're continually improving and outworking your peers. I don't really think that's the case for Giolito though. Being a top prospect doesn't mean you'll be a top 5 pitcher in MLB. If you look at the top 20 pitchers in mlb, all those guys were either tippy top prospects in different years...or very talented guys who put in the maximum amount of work to hit the absolute peak results that their talent would allow. As has been noted above, he's in the company of the best of the best...pretty much where you'd expect/hope a top prospect like him would land.
  13. I think I remember reading about him that he dealt with migraines or something. He was a very good hitter not that long ago. This feels like the type of flier the Brewers would try to take.
  14. I don't like him to add to the MLB club. But if he's willing to go to AAA, I would like this as an essentially free pickup. He may generally be interested in coming here as he has more of a shot to play here than any other contender. As of now all he has to do is be better than Owen Miller/Jesse Winker at hitting. Not a high bar.
  15. I'm guessing the Brewers have a wide array of options, but they also know that not a lot of teams are looking for bat first corner OF/1b. This is one of few areas that supply is greater than demand in my opinion...so I think the Brewers are incentivized to wait until very very late on bats. Let's just hope Owen Miller at 1b for the next 5 games doesn't hurt us too much.
  16. Yeah I don't really know about this. If you're looking at the 3 players that could get the best price, and that's the only purpose, there are better options. Burnes would be on the list for sure. If you're looking for 3 players that make sense to trade, trading from our SP or RP depth for bats makes sense.
  17. The Houston Texans would like to have a word... Is it worse to crater your payroll, and not even come close to winning for a decade? Or is it worse to try to win, make bad FA signings, and waste the prime of elite talents by not positioning them to showcase in October? I'd argue the former is worse. The Angels certainly aren't even middle of the pack as far as well run teams go, but I wouldn't even put them bottom 10 in sports personally. Trying hard but executing poorly is better than not trying, pinching pennies, and having your only goal be maximizing profit. Enough teams in the major 3 leagues fall under that category.
  18. This is a good point and I'll add to it. The last 2 months of the season used to be quite boring when every seller punted everyone and half of the teams lost 75-80% of games to the teams still trying to win. It's better for baseball to have at least 18 teams or so still trying to win in August/September vs 12-14.
  19. I'll add I don't think any will or should be brewers in 2025
  20. Im incredibly torn on how to handle these guys. On one hand, we're a small market and need to recoup some value. On the other, these young bats will all be a year older...and chourio just might arrive next year. It could be something special, it might make sense to keep all the talent...eat a year in the red...and take one last run at it. We can still get a lot more for burnes at the deadline than the giolito trade if 2024 goes south.
  21. Fair point. I'll note I did say it "might" not be enough time. Both those guys I believe they got in the off-season so they had tons of time to make adjustments...also easier to work on stuff in spring when it doesn't really count yet. Rosario is gonna be playing for the dodgers probably on Friday. I honestly cannot believe the turn arounds on those 2 though. It's a far far safer bet to assume everything the dodgers do is exceptionally smart, their development staff is miles ahead of every team in every way...except bullpen development
  22. The angels continually empty anything of value out of their farm. Either guys with talent sprint to the majors, or get traded. So without looking I'll go ahead and assume their farm is mediocre at best, more likely bottom 5. I'm honestly disappointed to not find out how much an ohtani rental would cost. I was expecting it to be like nothing we've ever seen, like literally more value than chourio going to the angels(not from us). Oh well, maybe in 75 years there will be another guy like ohtani
  23. 3 months might not be enough time...but I think they have a better shot at fixing him than Cleveland does at fixing Thor
  24. First point is fair, second point is less fair as teams employ bad humans often enough. I feel like they don't like him as a person, but they want to get something for him at the deadline
  25. This feels like an irrational hatred. It makes me wonder if he mouthed off to someone, or something non baseball related happened to cause this. Hiura not getting a call is completely devoid of logic
