  1. Is it just me or does Maddon seriously not have a clue? I'm trying to figure out why Murphy is leading off against Miley, which is L vs L. You can justify it against a RHP with the high obp...but he's been brutal against lefties this year and hasn't been all that successful against Miley specifically. Maybe go Almora at leadoff? Or Zobrist? Both guys have more speed than Murphy too, specifically Almora who's obviously a legit speed threat. I'm not complaining, heck they can bat the pitcher 1st too if they want. Just find it generally stupid, though at this point with Maddon I shouldn't be surprised. How many innings until he tries to intimidate an umpire and fails?
  2. I don't mean to poke at you specifically, but I personally am not a fan of Keuchel and don't believe his success is sustainable long term. He's a soft tossing lefty with no true plus pitches. Relies heavily on command and hitters to chase. I'll agree with reilly about him being a good #3 pitcher and maybe a decent #2...definitely not the guy I want to give $100 million to. I also am not sure how well upper 80s with no plus offspeed pitches will age as he has already thrown over 1,000 career innings and had shoulder issues a couple years ago.
  3. Typical heads-up base running by JV. Clearly made a mistake going first to second, but quite the athletic play to avoid the tag and run back to first. And then heads up going back to 2nd as the other Oriole scores. In general it goes to show the good and bad of Villar all in one play.
  4. I would assume printing on stubhub would print the same barcode. So I think technically you could print stubhub tickets 100 times and sell all the copies if you found 100 people stupid enough to buy printed stubhub tickets. First one in wins the prize. It sounds like what tplush is saying is stubhub generates a new barcode and voids the hard ticket barcode.
  5. Not looking to rehash this trade, I found this video quite something. That is Villar tagging from 1st to 2nd fyi...
  6. I expect Perez will be in there. CC always starts Perez against lefties. I'd be very very surprised if Perez played anything but SS if he plays at all. I guess maybe at 2b or 3b but I'm gonna stick with my prediction.
  7. I live in Raleigh (or a southern suburb of Raleigh really) and we are expecting to get hit late Thursday in to early Friday morning. I would think that starting at 4 would give them time but if they moved it up to 1, I think they get it in with no issues. Stay safe! All the models are pointing to a direct hit on NC. Agreed with Homer. I'll also add that travel should also be considered for the players/teams. The start time should enable them to get out of DC before the area gets hit. I'd hate for these teams to be playing baseball a handful of hours before the area gets hit and for them to be stuck hunkering down somewhere until it passes.
  8. The Brewers for the first time this year are charging a fee to have tickets fedex to you. It had been free previously, but this appears to be similar to the push other teams are making to electronic tickets. There is also a fee to have postseason tickets sent to you, but that isn't new...and for the first time this year they offered the option to avoid that fee and get them mobile for postseason. And to the previous poster about selling hard tickets on stubhub. I've done it, and I've noticed and agree there could be room for a loophole for someone to sell a hard ticket and then sell the ticket on stubhub. I assume this has very rarely if ever been done as most people are honest about it as I am. If that happened, I don't know who would be allowed in to the game. I know if the stubhub person wasn't allowed in, the person who sold the ticket would be susceptible to recourse from stubhub. They require a credit card on file for sellers and will likely reimburse the purchaser of the ticket and may charge penalties to the seller. This doesn't exactly help you get into the game but at least protects you financially. If the stubhub person gets in and the hard ticket no longer works, I suspect whoever bought the hard ticket would have to complain to MLB and they could inevitably track down the initial purchaser of the ticket. It might be a pain and tougher to prove in this case though.
  9. I figure we have to go with the primo lineup here, while keeping Arcia since it's a Miley start. Cain, Yelich, Aguilar, Braun, Schoop, Shaw/Moose, Pina/Kratz, Arcia...my prediction. I can't imagine anything different, maybe moose/shaw hit 5th with Schoop 6th...but I doubt it.
  10. I would strongly argue that we should be more concerned about the Cardinals than any NL West team. I specifically want the 1st wildcard if we can't win the division. Going into St Louis or LA for a 1 game playoff would be extremely tough.
  11. I hope GG can continue to get outs, but I'm not super enthusiastic about him in the rotation. His stuff against the giants was ok at best. His change was his only plus pitch, and he also had plus location for the most part. Everything else was meh. I'm very concerned how he'll look against more experienced and more patient lineups. I hope I'm wrong, for me he's the 4th starter in a playoff rotation right now. Chacin, Miley, Anderson, GG. There's also a very real chance that Davies takes that spot from him depending how he looks.
  12. I have a bad feeling that this game will be postponed, only to be made up if it would affect standings. It would be best for them to play it today, but I also wouldn't mind if they had to utilize one of their two remaining off days to travel to DC for the game. They should definitely have to play it. It's all cumulative. If it came down to them actually having to play it October 1st, that delays a potential 1 game playoff for the division until October 2nd and the wildcard until October 3rd. MLB shouldn't take that risk.
  13. A Sunday lineup for this team isn't THAT bad. I could see cain getting a day off and one of the lefty 3b. Perez or broxton in cf. I doubt aguilar gets the day off against a lefty. I'm a touch more concerned about the pen. JJ is probably down today, maybe soria and maybe knebel. I think we'll have to use other relievers today unless Davies goes 7, which is highly unlikely.
  14. We've put ourselves in position that we don't NEED a sweep to have a real shot at the division. 2 of 3 keeps us close enough to have a chance. Gotta keep playing good baseball
  15. Great idea here.
  16. Regardless of how it gets managed, when you basically have to play everyday for a month straight due to early season rainouts your pen is going to suffer at the end of it. That's what the Cubs are dealing with now. Not getting Morrow back really has gassed the group of arms the Cubs rely on to lock down games. They've been able to slug their way to a few wins and get some solid starting pitching overall during this stretch, otherwise the division race would already be a toss-up between the Cubs and Brewers at this point. Just not having a day off where a team doesn't have to even show up to the park and think about picking up a baseball makes a huge difference. I see your point but I'm not sure I'm buying that theory given that rosters have been expanded for over a week now. Honestly the cubs are just having a rough week or 2. Some of their best pitchers are losing command and the offense stagnated a bit. Also many of their aaa nobodies with average at best stuff finally stopped inexplicably posting good results. Injuries have hurt for sure but their list of injuries is no worse than average compared to everyone else. I'll also remind that they played garbage teams for a full month. I do fully expect once maddon can get guys some rest they'll bounce back. I wouldn't be surprised if they split the first 2 games with us, that maddon punts game 3 by giving many regulars 2 full days of rest with the Thursday offday. Would be a wise move. Theoretically take 1step back to take 2 steps forward.
  17. I just looked at their remaining schedule - talk about a tough road... 13 of their remaining 20 come against the Dodgers, Braves, Brewers, and Cubs. They've been hot overall, no question - but actually are scuffling in Sept at 2-5 thus far. Cubs up 5-3 and getting late, but 9 outs is a long way to go... Edit, 5-4 now, and by the looks of it Maddon is well on his way to having to empty out the whole reliable portion of his bullpen again to crawl out of there with a W. Hang on, the cubs currently have reliable bullpen pitchers? Did you intend that to be in blue?
  18. Let's tack on a couple 8th inning runs and make it a bit easier on JJ.
  19. I actually think he was out, seems about a 50/50 split on the board. Would be a shame as that was a fantastic defensive play.
  20. Definitely happy to see GG looking good so far, but let's temper our expectations. He's facing the Giants. It's definitely better that he's pitching well than struggling, but his stuff today makes me a bit nervous for when he faces better hitting teams. Not a ton there. Location is good but stuff is lacking...
  21. I really don't care who wins those games. You could probably make a case for the Dodgers winning being better as they likely still have better odds of winning the division. Neither is really a bad outcome. I agree. I'm kinda hoping those teams generally split their games and stay right around each other. If we keep playing well, we should finish well above all 3 if that happens. I generally would prefer the Dodgers don't make the playoffs of the 3 if I'm choosing though, so from that perspective I'd rather the Rockies win.
  22. I'm wondering why Granderson is in RF instead of Broxton. Maybe because Granderson is due up 3rd...try to get him one more AB before bringing in the plus defender?
  23. That hit was huge, wow. Time to put the plus defenders in and lock this one down. Soria for the 8th, JJ the 9th.
