  1. I've been out doing yardwork and listening to the game. Some general observations I took from that...Chacin is not remotely sharp and could easily have given up 6 or 7 runs already, Shaw should be on the DL, why in the hell did we pitch to carpenter with guys on 2nd and 3rd with 2 out, and we are gonna need 5 or 6 runs minimum to have a chance to win this game. We should be going to the bullpen early and often with an offday tomorrow.
  2. Absolutely it is, although a trade might be unlikely. I think there's a decent chance Toronto tries to re-tool and finds value in guys like Woodruff, Santana, Houser, and other upper minors guys with a high floor and limited ceiling. Vlad among others are coming...probably next year. I'd want a decent roster around him so he isn't coming up to a 72 win team and making it 78 himself. I personally think that makes more sense than targetting guys in high a or aa that need 2 more years in the minors.
  3. It is not. Then I'd happily pass. I'm not willing to give up anything other than spare parts in a trade at this point. Somehow the Astros turned 3 major league ready spare parts into Garrett Cole. My offer is roughly the same value as what the Pirates received. You could swap out Santana with Corey Ray or Brett Phillips if they want more control. Then toss in another pitching prospect that would have to be protected in next years rule 5 draft like Cody Ponce or Marcos Diplan. It's really not as simple as offering spare parts(which is what offering Woodruff/Santana is). The Marlins are probably more interested in minor leaguers with upside than high floor players that are already 25 and have lost some team control. For that reason alone, I doubt the Marlins have much interest in that package. I think there's going to be far more talk than actual action this deadline. I don't think Realmuto, Degrom, Syndergaard, Archer, or any other guys with an astronomical asking price and more than 2 years of team control get dealt. I understand that Marlins may be asking for Robles/Soto type and be willing to take less, I just think the gap between their ask and what another team will pay is too wide.
  4. I know you're a Cardinal fan, but you're impossible to dislike. LOL they find it QUITE possible on my home forum. What is your home forum out if curiosity? I always appreciate opposing viewpoints.
  5. He collapses into Sogard for no good reason. Either his balance is complete garbage or he did that intentionally...
  6. I'm not sure what Munoz was doing there. After he took the throw, nobody was even close to 1b for the cards. I looked like the contact didn't have to be so drastic and Munoz made it worse than it had to be. I love when the bullpens jog out there when nothing is happening. Must be sick of playing Fortnite in the dugout...
  7. I don't think they quite did him justice. Maybe they are looking for a bit more track record, but he's a better prospect than most of the names outside the top 10. Heck there are 3 pitchers that are out for the season with injuries ahead of him...and of course there's a significant chance they don't come back the same from the injuries. On a side note, why aren't the Astros trying Kyle Tucker at 1b? Is that a Khris Davis situation where he just sucks there? If he worked out at 1b temporarily, that fills a glaring hole in not only adding production at 1b...but adding balance with a LH bat.
  8. The fact that the Nationals said no to those guys tells you it's unlikely another team gives up a top 30 or 40 prospect for Realmuto. I'm not sure we'd need to include a package led by Peralta to get a deal done...could get it done with Burnes+. The Marlins aren't going to say we'll trade him for less because another team isn't meeting our asking price. They'll keep him until a team actually does meet their asking price. That's fair. We do occasionally see desperation overpays on pitching, but it's much more rare on the hitting side. Eaton to some degree, but that was weird as Gioloto for whatever reason fell out of favor with the Nationals and they were actively trying to trade him. I suspect if the Marlins demand someone of the Soto/Robles caliber, they'll hold Realmuto for a while longer. I personally think that's a terrible idea. They have a lot of talent in their early 20s in the upper minors. They could certainly land 2 or 3 quality prospects for Realmuto...just not blue chip future stars. Trading him now likely makes the received prospects that much closer to the majors to make an impact with their other upper minors prospects. And waiting until the offseason or next deadline, he has that much less service time to the prospective buyer. At the same time, if I was the Marlins I would be very hesitant to trade for more Brewers prospects. If we were the Rangers or Cardinals or Dodgers...or some other team with an incredible track record for talent development...then fine I'd be inclined to treat them as a one stop shop for filling up my farm if we kept matching up in trades. Brewers at best are a middle of the pack development team and I'd rather get players from other farms than deal strictly with the Brewers...unless of course the Brewers offers are that much better than everyone elses.

  10. We are 8-9 with 8 games left this month. Nobody will be exactly on unless they predicted a rain out. Based on our opponents and our recent play, I feel like I have a good shot at being within half a game of correct with my 14-12 prediction. I'll be pretty annoyed if we cant win 5 or 6 of 8 games against the cards(the way they are playing), reds, and royals.
  11. Does anyone know what his initial asking price was? Based on the numbers at the link below, we had about $875k of excess to use to go above slot on our remaining players in the top 10(Turang, Gray, Rasmussen) plus anyone beyond the 10th signed to over $100k. That includes the 5%($330k) we can go over our total draft pool without losing a pick next year. https://www.brewcrewball.com/2018/6/4/17426206/milwaukee-brewers-2018-mlb-draft-and-signing-tracker
  12. Agreed. In fairness to Ozuna, that strike call he argued was dreadful. It wasn't even close, probably one of the worst strike/ball calls I've seen all year.
  13. His ERA and FIP are around 3.5. That's good, but one of the best starters in the game? Sorting by ERA, there are 29 starters with a better era. By FIP there are 20. He wouldn't even by our best starter based on those metrics, and our rotation leaves a lot to be desired.
  14. I'm sure this horse has been beaten to death, but his BABIP is shockingly low...especially considering how much of the season has been played. It's currently at .207, while 3 of the last 4 years have been over 350. I'm not even sure how that happens over such a significant stretch. His k rate is a shade higher than normal while his bb rate is around where it normally is. And even with his rotten luck, he still has over 800 ops with 19 hr...on pace for over 40. Mike Trout is about a 98% lock to make the hall. One thing he absolutely has to do is keep the counting stats rolling. I don't see that being an issue though. Also, some playoff success would be nice...but that's primarily team dependent. I wouldn't be surprised if he left the Angels after his contract and signed with a team that doesn't have terrible management. I can't understand how a team with Mike Trout can't build a contender around him.
  15. Anderson Espinoza was rated much higher when that trade was made. Baseball America's 2016 mid-season list had him ranked #24. I seem to remember some lists at the time had him in the late teen's. Espinoza was definitetly a consensus top 25 prospect in all of baseball when that trade went down. That is correct, but this was clearly a product of big market bias. At the time, I thought he was extremely comparable to Diplan...only one pitched for the Brewers while the other pitched for the Red Sox. With that said, Pomeranz isn't really comparable because of the remaining contract. A rental versus 2.5 years of control, not even close to the same.
  16. I thought Stanton was doing better, he's approaching Chris Carter territory with the k rate and hr rate. And he's an average at best defender. He's looking at a career worst k rate and bb rate right now. I think this is going to look like a bad move for the Yankees in a couple years. Unlikely Stanton ops out the way it's looking right now.
  17. Watching the poor defense was really something, not very cardinals-like. It's hard to imagine the Cardinals staying in serious contention if they are capable of games/stretches like this. This might have been a reasonably close game if they played good defense and eliminated the errors. As much as I hate to say it, that's part of why the Cubs rarely have blowup games like this...they have plus or double plus defenders at every position on the field except 1(excluding pitcher spot).
  18. I’ve seen his age mentioned countless times. He is a 3 month rental. His age is almost completely meaningless. Agreed. Using the extreme example, if we had a need at 3b...I would have no problem renting Beltre depending on the cost, and dude is 40. He can still hit and defend the position, over 3 months...that's all that matters.
  19. I'm surprised they are pitching to Suter with Thames on Deck. I'd much rather take my chances with Thames...
  20. AKA "He'll be on the DL in a day or two." He can take Pina with him. This comment sure aged well. I love being wrong like this on a given day...
  21. There's a bit more in this tweet as well.
  22. Or they could be extremely happy if the guy they acquire helps win them the division and make a deep playoff run and the prospect they send in return fizzles out. You never know how these things will turn out. As I said I like Woodruff. And I know that’s he’s still young and still has a lot of potential. But in his 12 major league starts the last two seasons he has left A LOT to be desired. It’s entirely possible that he’s your prototypical “AAAA” pitcher who never does anything at the major league level. If that happens to be the case getting JA Happ, even for a few months, would be a steal. Everyone always assumes the prospects we move are going to meet or surpass their potential once we move them. That’s not always the case. If Toronto offered Happ for Woodruff right now I’d probably do it. Then focus on solidifying the lineup. Woodruff has pitched to roughly a 4.2 FIP over 12 starts and accumulated almost 1 WAR. And those are his first 12 starts. It's more likely that he improves given his age than he gets worse. I don't think he improves a ton, but Woodruff appears to be clearly better than you are giving him credit for. I think his floor is a back end starter in the mid 4s ERA with a couple high 3s seasons at peak. That's his FLOOR. His ceiling isn't incredibly high, but he could pitch to a 4ish ERA for 5 more cost controlled seasons. That's significant value, more than 2 months of Happ. I could see Woodruff being traded, just not for Happ.
