  1. And if other teams do that...then they won the bidding, good for them, we'll look elsewhere. There should be enough options available that we don't have to heavily overpay. Trading someone like Ray or Brown or even Grisham is probably an overpay. We should be sending them a high floor type prospect in the teens somewhere with a limited ceiling. That's why I like the idea of Houser, Derby, Ponce, etc.
  2. For responses to some other posts, I agree with general consensus that we would never trade Santana for 2 months of Happ, much less Santana and Woodruff. Generally we should target younger pitchers, but we can make select moves of trading for established talent as long as we don't get carried away like Melvin did and then have 5 straight years of awful drafts. I'm not sure I'd trade Woodruff straight up for Happ. I feel like we can get more for Woodruff in a different move, maybe trading for someone with multiple years of team control. Woodruff is a fairly safe bet to stick in the back end of a rotation with #3 upside at peak, that definitely has value...much more than 2 months of Happ. He also has upside from there if he improves, but at his age I can't see any major improvements aside from maybe command.
  3. If Toronto sells, all we have to do is beat another teams offer and a potential comp value. Toronto has an incredibly solid core, I could see them being interested in MLB caliber talent with multiple years of team control unless they go into a total rebuild(which with vlad coming I doubt). I'm not sure what their farm system looks like for 1b, but could Happ for Aguilar make sense for them? I could see them being interested in Houser or Derby as well, upper level guys that can help out soon. That probably makes more sense than them targeting 18-20 year olds. I wouldn't want Vlad coming up to a junk team.
  4. I would hope no one has "given up" on Santana. Just think he is a better starter than a bench player and want him to get regular AB's. The situation may resolve itself soon though, what's with Thames playing RF? Showcasing? Thames is playing RF to get him and Aguilar both in the lineup. Santana does need regular atbats, that's why AAA is a good option for him. That way, he'll be ready if/when we need someone for regular playing time.
  5. I wouldn't be shocked to see Perez start at SS. Both Sogard and Arcia have been dreadful against Martinez career. While Perez isn't much better...he is better. I personally would put Arcia in for the defense, since you really aren't getting much with any of those 3 options. Otherwise, this looks about right.
  6. The original poster that I responded to asked why even bother making an offer that you know won't get accepted. That's where my comments stemmed from. I personally think the offers I've proposed are close but again could easily be beat and may not be enough to entice the Mets. But they aren't waste of time offers.
  7. The only one I'm aware of is here: https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/top-30-prospects-milwaukee-brewers/ Michele Vassalotti, RHP – A 17-year-old Italian righty who posted a 1.63 ERA as a 16-year-old in the DSL, Vassalotti sits 90-93 and throws strikes with three pitches. He’s physically mature for a teenager, and his lower arm slot might cause platoon issues down the road. Let’s hope he’s a sign that baseball is growing in Italy, where there is currently too much relaxing and enjoyment of fine foods. Given the amount of ground balls he induces and lower arm slot, guessing it's a FB-SL-CH profile. I'm basing this solely on the numbers, but his command appears to be extremely impressive for such a young guy. I don't often notice such low BB rates on younger guys in pro ball.
  8. I generally disagree with what you think it would take, but I'll add a comment that I think Josh Hader would qualify as a Moncada/Torres caliber player in your example. That said, he very likely is untouchable.
  9. Your approach pisses people off. Maybe not everyone, but definitely a large percentage. You're wasting their time. That's entirely untrue, especially considering MLB GM's are involved in negotations in pretty every aspect of what they do. I'm not saying you offer Sogard for Machado. That was an extreme example that someone else came up with. Obviously you should make at least a decent offer. From a housing perspective, if a house is listed at $200k, I'm not talking about offering $20k or even $80k. Maybe the max you are willing to pay is $180k, so you start at $165k or $170k and see what happens. Maybe that house is a hot item and goes for $250k in a bidding war(in which case the $165k offer gets balked at), or maybe your offer is good enough to entice them and you get it at $175k because they are worried the value will go down in a year. That example can surely be translated into prospects to some degree, though that translation is a bit more tricky because every player/prospect is valued differently by every mlb team. My main point, there's a massive gap between an insultingly low offer and a decent offer that can be added to to get a deal done. I don't think Burnes + Peralta as headliners in a Degrom deal is insultingly low. Maybe the Mets demand Hiura and you replace him with one of the pitchers. Or maybe the headliners are good enough but they need a couple good secondary prospects(Ray). Or maybe the Mets don't even bother talking to us because we don't have 5 top 50 prospects and that's the only way to start a conversation for either pitcher.
  10. I don't think Saladino is going to be out for an insanely long amount of time. It's a sprained ankle and he's already missed 3 weeks. Even if it's a high ankle sprain or just a really bad ankle sprain, I can't imagine him missing more than a couple more weeks. I like the idea of targeting a SS now, and then having depth when Saladino comes back. I'm honestly a bit surprised we aren't giving Dylan Moore a look. In fairness, all I see are stat lines and haven't heard a peep about him up until this year...but the numbers certainly look good. Maybe he's this years Sogard at SS. I'd rather take a chance on an unknown like him than bring up Miller to play SS regularly.
  11. I don't see the point in wasting time on making an offer you know is going to be rejected. Have you ever negotiated for anything before in your life? Your first offer definitely shouldn't be your best offer. Start low and work your way up. Even if the Brewers were willing to send Hiura, Burnes, and Peralta in trade for Degrom...opening with that offer would be dreadful negotiation.
  12. Haudricourt says he may play Thursday. Even if it's Friday, that would mean he missed 3 games. No big deal. Braun getting a few days of extended rest is never a bad thing.
  13. Was Braun out of the lineup yesterday as well? Any word why he's missed multiple games if that indeed is the case?
  14. I fully expect the Mets to ask about him. They may even try and play hardball and say they won't do a deal without Hader(which in fact may be true). But if that's the case, the hardest of all passes. I might consider moving hader in a package for both of those guys, but that's not even worth discussing.
  15. I did pick up Kuhl in my fantasy league, though I hope he gives up 10 runs and destroys my ratios.
  16. This guy always destroys the brewers, despite being mediocre. I feel like I should pick him up on my fantasy team for today only.
  17. Diet and exercise? Absolutely. If there's one thing we know about Jimmy, is his work ethic is phenomenal. I'm sure he's focused on his shoulder and getting ready to pitch, but he's not playing in games and there's only so much he can do with that shoulder. When he's not doing rehab or throwing, I'm sure he's doing cardio and such to get himself into peak condition. I wish Nelson could instill his work ethic into every player on the team.
  18. It seems like the bolded parts are contradictory statements. If I am reading it correctly you are asserting that teams don’t need to offer full value in order to acquire Syndergaard or deGrom because baseball is flooded with prospect hugging organizations that will depress the market value for either pitcher. Then you said that is why they won’t be traded? Sure, if teams don’t offer adequate value for either pitcher the Mets have absolutely no reason to move either player, but then doesn’t that sink your theory about teams being able to acquire either pitcher without offering equal value as long as it is simply the “best offer”? We shouldn't be trying to put together a massive, mouth-watering overpayment package to entice the Mets to part with one of their top pitchers. Our goal should be to beat other teams offers. If we make the best offer of any team, and the Mets decide it isn't good enough and keep their starters...so be it. With players of this caliber with this much team control, there is certainly going to be a wide gap between what is offered in prospects and what these pitchers are actually worth. Many have pointed out specifically for the Brewers that they think we'd need to trade Hiura, Burnes, Peralta to have a chance at either pitcher. Are you really willing to trade our top 3 prospects, and really our only likely impact prospects...for one guy? Our farm goes from the 6-10 range to about 20th in a hurry with that move...and the likelihood of getting significant reinforcements from the minors anytime soon decreases drastically. Other GM's thought process is certainly similar, and GM's like Atlanta, NY, LA, etc have passed on opportunities to empty the farm for proven talent in recent years. I'm sure they'll make offers, but nobody is going to offer back 100% value in prospects for either guy. Nobody is going to match a Hiura, Burnes, Peralta offer...and for all we know that may not be enough to entice the Mets anyway.
  19. I found it funny how Cubs fans talked up how good their bullpen is. How depth and injuries didn't matter because on paper they had guys that projected for high WAR. Now they have 4 guys in their bullpen that I've never heard from and pitching in key spots. I can't imagine they'll be able to get away with it for much longer.
  20. Back on topic... Is this offer really that bad? I assume Burnes and Peralta would have to be included given they are the Brewers best pitching prospects. However, perhaps the injury concern with Syndergaard is the reason they take the second best hitting prospect instead of the first? Or would there be such interest in him that despite the injury concern, the acquiring team would have to part with their 3 best prospects? Honestly, the more I think about it, the more I think a deal would be 2 pitchers (Burnes and Peralta) and 2 hitters (Erceg and Phillips). The problem is you are competing against the majority of baseball for Syndergaard’s services. Even with some real injury concern Thor’s ceiling is so incredibly tantalizing. If that proposed deal gets it done than a dozen or so teams across baseball fell asleep at the wheel, IMO. I'm curious who all these teams are that are willing and able to trade a better package than that for Degrom or Syndergaard. The teams that throw prospects around as if they are meaningless have already depleted their farm systems. The teams with the best farms right now aren't the type of teams that will throw away all their prospects for one player. I can understand the argument that the value of Degrom or Syndergaard being greater than some of the packages offered. But the value doesn't have to be equal, it just has to be the best offer. I doubt any team in baseball offers equal value for Syndergaard or Degrom with this much team control. It's all about the market. This is also why I've said from the beginning, I highly doubt either are traded.
  21. I thought it was weird how much Knebel was pitching around guys, it seemed like the calls from Pina in fairness. That said, I felt like Knebel hit his spots better today than he has since he came back from injury. The results weren't pretty, but this seems like an outing he can build on. Had solid command of both pitches.
  22. CC came out and said Burnes is more likely to help the 2018 brewers in the pen, but long term is a starter.
  23. Does anyone know the deadline for when picks have to sign? I can't seem to find it.
