  1. I can't wait to see exit velo on that hit from urias. It sounded like a hr...
  2. I came on here expecting the worst considering the state of the game. Pleasantly surprised by the general lack of negativity. It's a tough game and sucks we aren't getting hits, but the braves are a good team and seem to have our number. Hopefully we can scratch out a couple these last two innings
  3. How does making a baseball heavier reduce arm injuries? I would think literally the opposite would happen.
  4. Nonsense, Vlad is so good...all his HR came against a rotation of Cole, Verlander, Scherzer, Kershaw, Burnes. He never faces the bad pitchers.
  5. Strikeouts as a stand alone stat don't really matter, but every time you don't put the ball in play...you can't get a hit. It's fair to take a look around MLB and see if anyone else is a successful MLB hitter with a 40% k rate. I suspect you won't find one, so saying Hiura can be a successful MLB player with a 40% k rate is just false. That said, I think with consistent at bats after a good chunk of time in the minors this year...I think it could be significantly better. But that specific stat line has to improve for him to have success at the mlb level.
  6. There's like 5 people here including you that come on here and just dunk on the brewers constantly and it's not cute or funny or enjoyable in any way. It's not what most people come here for. There are plenty of people on the cubs forum that would be more than happy to pick this team apart with you and grasp at the straws of why the brewers are trash.
  7. I know Wiemer is best suited for RF, but is he good enough in the outfield to play some CF at the MLB level? He certainly wouldn't be a stud out there, but he's had plenty of reps in the minors and it wouldn't be another Mark Kotsay situation I would assume. Wiemer is actually hitting...
  8. Cain looks finished to me, and it isn't even July/August yet where he'll have 4 different minor leg injuries he's nursing. I would be very surprised if the Brewers didn't have at least 10 different variations/plans to improve at CF at points this year with the most likely being a deadline trade for a pretty wide variety of options. If we go the trade route which I'm expecting, there will be no rentals available that are really an upgrade from Cain...so most likely it'll be a trade for a guy with 2-3 years of team control and will probably be a bit expensive depending on the target. I have enough faith in every other spot on the field that I don't think we NEED to do anything, though depending on the price of rentals we certainly could add at 4 or 5 other positions and improve the roster in the short term.
  9. All that said, I'm taking all the credit if Freddy twirls a gem as I'm opting to bench him on my fantasy squad today...
  10. Freddy's getting hit hard. 45% hard hit rate vs 32% last year and currently 35.5% mlb average. Also his whiff rate is down from last year. Most of his numbers compared to last year are a bit concerning honestly.
  11. The two trades I could find for big name position players over the last two years are the Dodgers getting Trea Turner + Max Scherzer and the Braves getting Matt Olson. The Dodgers primarily gave up Keibert Ruiz and Josiah Gray for both Turner/Scherzer. Ruiz was 38 on the most recent top 100 and Gray was 68. Ruiz had a lot of helium early on but had a few down years. He probably only kept his prospect clout on lists because he was in the right farm system. Both those guys are probably at least slightly better prospects than Frelick/Wiemer/Small, but Turner and Scherzer are both better baseball players than Reynolds/Mullins/Laureano by a significant margin. It's tough to know what percentage of the value to allocate to Turner vs Scherzer. The other trade being the Braves getting Olson. The A's got Pache, Cusick, Estes. I think it's beyond debate to see we have plenty of prospects in the range of Cusick/Estes. Pache is a premium defender that can't hit, at least not yet and hasn't been able to for a while. He profiles as an extremely useful 4th outfielder or 2nd division regular, unless he starts to hit he'll never be valuable as a starter on a contending team. Matt Olson is not that far off those 3 guys from a value perspective before his extension, and we definitely can match that offer. I think you're probably overvaluing all 3 players above and undervaluing our prospects. Also, it's hard to argue the Sabathia trade didn't surpass every expectation. The roster floundered in other areas, but the trade was an overall successful move and we did get to the postseason for the first time in forever...and without him we don't.
  12. Maybe not, but Hiura hasn't really had a chance to play regularly this year. Maybe with regular at bats and knowing a bad week won't mean he loses his playing time, maybe he settles in and starts to show his talent. And maybe the Pirates can trade him in the offseason or at the deadline. What you're talking about is GM's playing low-grade checkers...not wanting Hiura solely because he doesn't fit their timeline to compete, these are some of the brightest minds in baseball. If they think they can turn Hiura around with a few tweaks and regular atbats, they can easily get way more value flipping him in a year or two than as part of the trade for Reynolds.
  13. I'm not sure the cost would be as high as you seem to think. We have some pretty good players in the minors I'm sure any of those teams would have no problem finding 2-4 prospects they like in trade and not all of them would be the highest on our prospect list. That said, the Brewers may very well be one elite talent away from the roster we need. The depth is so good, one or two improvements in the outfield might put us over the top. I don't really see us needing improvement at any other positional spot, outfield is really the only concern barring injury. We also only have 2 years left in this window at best and I'm sure Stearns knows this.
  14. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like Laureano is actually a very good defender in CF. As good as Cain is, he's not going to be as fast or athletic as Laureano at this point or probably even Taylor. Also Laureano has an absolute cannon as well.
  15. So what? It wouldn't be one for one. He could play every day in Pittsburgh with no pressure, if he can break out at the MLB level there he can be flipped for way more value than they'd give for him. Hiura holds value because despite his flaws, he's extremely talented and is probably just a few tweaks away from being really good.
  16. Like maybe he can be a piece for Bryan Reynolds.......
  17. He just needs to fire sinkers in the bottom half and hope for the best. I wouldn't even mix it up to Moran.
  18. This ump seems like a punk, or really he's just bad at his job
  19. This is what it's like when I play mlb the show on rookie difficulty...
  20. I was mostly just teasing the negative people that apparently aren't here because the Brewers are doing well and there's nothing to whine about. You're generally right, I've said all along see what things look like around the 40 game mark to have some idea of what's good, what's bad, etc.
  21. Like if you aren't hanging 10 runs on Scherzer it's like it didn't even count...
  22. Does anyone remember when 2 weeks in, the season was already over because the offense was so bad?
  23. A little disappointing to not score, but Mahle threw 31 pitches that's a decent start to the game. Hopefully get to the bullpen in the first game of the series
