  1. I personally will look for any and every reason to criticize TLR, can't stand the guy. That said, when's the last time you saw a manager berate a player in the dugout like that? I'm sure players get their tongue lashings, but probably mostly in the locker room after the game or not publicly. He's done way too much of this stuff publicly already, and he has enough of a reputation that he's never ever ever ever ever ever going to get the benefit of the doubt. Nor should he.
  2. The Reds have the inside track because of schedule. The Padres have 10 games over the next 3 weeks against the Dodgers, Astros, and Giants. That's a yikes, especially considering the layups the Reds have. Hard to see the Reds not running away with the wildcard over the next couple weeks.
  3. The Reds next 6 series include 4 layup series(Marlins, Cubs, Tigers, Pirates) and then 2 against the Cardinals. Earlier in August they had 4 game sweeps of both the Pirates and Marlins. I get the odds are long regardless of schedule, I guess I'll say I expect the 9.5 game gap to close at least some over the next 3 weeks or so. There's just no way we can extend the lead with them having such a cake schedule. My shot in the dark guess is we'll have a 6 game lead on 9/16 with 12 to play and them about to face a Dodgers team that probably will still need the wins.
  4. Need to go 22-13 the rest of the way. That's roughly the pace we are on since Adames. We don't have many layups left in the schedule(Pirates/Dbacks/Cubs/etc), so getting to 100 will be truly earned in these last 35 games if it happens.
  5. We had a massive matchup advantage both of the first 2 games(it's going to be tough not to have an advantage with Woodruff/Burnes on the mound). Today, clearly the Reds have the matchup advantage. I just kinda have a feeling Castellanos is going to hit 2 dingers and ruin the game for us. Here's hoping I'm wrong. Also Gray has looked a bit more human than usual this year so maybe we win one 8-5 or something, I think we need at least 4-5 runs to have a chance today.
  6. I'm really enjoying watching yelich smash the ball toward 3b. It's free hits until they adjust their shift, often a double. That last one was unfortunately a really nice play by moose but a good at bat for sure. Hit it where they ain't
  7. Considering the standings, this isn't a bad time for him to work on his offspeed a bit more in game situations. But when it counts, go to what you do best.
  8. Biggest thing in my opinion, keep your cool. You know the zone is going to suck, don't say anything, don't breathe too hard, don't do anything that might hurt these umpires precious feelings and get yourself ejected. We don't have the depth we normally might with Adames/Escobar down right now. Can't afford to lose a key player to a bad call.
  9. I was just coming to ask if burnes really painted the inside corner on 0-2 at 100. I feel like even if a hitter knew that was coming he'd struggle to hit it, jeez
  10. Tom h and mccalvy must not be paying much attention. Not sure how that wasn't mentioned by either on Twitter yet. Would be nice to get some sort of update from them
  11. Bro, just go away already. Nobody likes you... Edit - Referring to the tweet, not the poster...
  12. Well the runner on second rule was brought back for the 2021 season obviously, but based on last year I would assume runner on second would not happen in the postseason. So nevermind on my previous comment...
  13. One other caveat I'll add for discussion, CC probably doesn't really need to plan for a potential 14+ inning game. Playoff games tend to be a bit more low scoring, and previously you'd want to keep a 5th starter type to take over if a game got to the 11th or 12th inning just to cover the innings. With the runner on 2nd rule, that contingency pitcher is much less likely to be needed. That could generally mean that one of the other 3 starting pitchers gets left off the playoff roster(I suspect Anderson).
  14. The numbers I referenced above, it was Woodruff with the upper 3's ERA out of the Big 3 since the all star break. Maybe dead arm has been impacting him already?
  15. Adding to monty's point a bit. Since the allstar break, let's split our 6 starters into the Big 3 and the Bottom 3. The Big 3 have ERA of 1.60, 2.70, and 3.94 over a combined 17 starts. The bottom 3 have ERA of 2.18, 2.95, and 3.86 over a combined 14 starts and 2 relief apperances. All the Bottom 3 are only averaging 4-5 innings per start at this point. And frankly that's fine, use 2 in game 4 to hopefully eat most innings and you're good. You could even use one in game 1 for a couple innings and have them ready again in game 4. And just a reminder that there are the built in rest days. We can more or less plan on Williams/Hader each pitching an inning every game if needed. This also might be the time where CC uses Hader for multiple innings to close out a game or series if the situation calls for it. This roster is frankly loaded and ready for a playoff run, this is the best roster I've seen from the Brewers pretty much ever considering all facets of the game.
  16. This 3 game series, basically just don't get swept right? 7.5 becoming 4.5 would kinda suck. But taking 2 of 3 and pushing the lead to 8.5 would more or less be the nail in the coffin with no head to head left.
  17. If the Brewers have to play the wildcard at this point, we should probably just forfeit as no way are we doing anything after blowing a 7.5 game lead with 37 to go.
  18. I know many of you have mentioned someone going on short rest for the NLDS. It's certainly possible, but with how careful the Brewers have been with these arms all year I just don't see us doing that, at least in the NLDS or NLCS. I'll add a general though. If the Brewers are up 2-1 heading into game 4, do we still go with Burnes/Woodruff on short rest knowing we'd have one of the big three on an extra day of rest heading into game 5 at home if it's needed? Or would that be more realistic if we are DOWN 2-1 heading into game 4 making it a must win? Or does it not matter?
  19. To get to 97, Brewers need to go 21-16 the rest of the way as we are currently 76-49 with 37 games left. That is reasonably possible for sure.
  20. Possibly, more than anything I think Hiura has work to do in the offseason to get his mechanics where they need to be.
  21. I'm expecting the 4th starter to be a tandem situation with 2 of Lauer/Anderson/Houser. 3-4 innings each in theory, definitely not seeing any hitters a 3rd time unless the starter is lights out. I also think it's too early to rule out Topa/Norris. Both guys could pitch their way onto the roster, also injuries.
  22. JBJ definitely has a place on the postseason roster. That ball that yelich should have caught but didn't today, that's routine for JBJ. He'll be a late game defensive replacement in games we are ahead. Probably for yelich. We'll go from a below average defender in LF to literally the best possible defender in LF with a lead in a key playoff game. Certainly value there
  23. You didn't even count pujols get paid to eat donuts and get fat the last 5 years, while being bad
  24. It's honestly so disappointing. When healthy, his stuff/effectiveness this year has been his career best. Such a shame for so much of it to be wasted due to injury.
  25. Right, I always find it fun when Milwaukee/Wisconsin teams support each other. Queue Bahktiari slamming beers at Bucks games.
