  1. That is probably what the Pirates' postgame is thinking, but I doubt the Brewers pull the trigger that quickly on the rebuild. I'd prefer we try to build a bit more internally first (trade Lind, let Arcia spend most of the year at AAA) than making big FA signs of Freese or Zimmerman David Freese would be considered a "big" FA sign?
  2. So 92-95 with the league's best curveball? Sounds like a Yovani Gallardo comp to me. I'd gladly take that assuming he continues to ascend.
  3. This just in: The Lopez kid is pretty good.
  4. Spent the past three years in rookie ball. Hasn't hit worth a lick this year at all. This will be very forgettable. Harsh assessment for a guy with only 86 AB's this year.
  5. Two things: 1. Do you understand how the MLB draft slotting system works? 2. Are you being serious about Haniger patroling RF for 10 years, or was that a joke?
  6. Does anybody have a scouting report or able to speak to his velocity?
  7. With the amount of cord cutting going on, these deals are going to end very badly for the networks.
  8. A year a half of Gomez leading us to under .500 ball and a hit or miss pick is better than a pitcher that would automatically be or best pitcher and a hitter who is 23 and was a top 80 prospect most of his time in the minors. That makes no sense. The draft pick wod be lucky to turn into flores. When you trade your number one available asset and your major league roster wasn't improved in 2016 and your top 10 prospect list hasn't changed, you didn't make a good trade. Just for clarification's sake, are these the only two criteria to determine if a trade is good or not this year? I just want to be sure so that when you tell us how much you hate the next trade, I'm not missing something else and we are aware of your personal criteria.
  9. Chicago sports fans are the single most myopic and insular bunch I've ever come across. The rioting would quickly turn to dancing should Hamels lead them to a World Series. All they care about is one title at this point.
  10. He just feels like a Brady Clark comp to me. A guy that plays the game the right way, solid yet unspectacular, but somebody that can chip in and grind his way to a nice little career. Ideally a 4th guy but a valuable contributor type.
  11. I remember when people here thought Inman was the second coming of Sheets. There was an article back in the day analyzing the Linbrink/Inman trade. Funny looking back.
  12. It's been so long since I felt good about where the farm is at. This year has been fun to follow and giving me hope for the future. With that said, I'm still on guard that Doug will screw it up and trade a bunch of it away.
  13. Yeah, okay, Tom. I went absolutely ballistic when I saw this. Nice to know that TH is now officially a journalistic shill for Melvin. My goodness, what the hell are you talking about, there is no upside? What's the upside play, Tom? Let him play for crappy teams the next 2 years and watch him walk?
  14. I was referring to Ventura, who is 22 and at Wisconsin.
  15. TheCrew, I don't see you get too excited about Brewer pitching prospects. What does the stuff look like? Have you had the gun on him? From afar, he seems a bit old for A ball.
  16. This is probably true but what I haven't heard anybody say is that Braun didn't want to play 3B. Never embraced it. He's human and consistently failing in the field would have eventually taken something from him at the plate. Particularly when his fielding would have cost us games.
  17. Would anyone have a recent scouting report on Jorge Lopez or be able to speak to whether he's legit? He's listed at 165, seems to imply he still has room for growth.
  18. This may be true, but I strongly doubt their lack of interest would have anything to do with baggage when it clearly didn't matter the first time around.
  19. How has that worked out to this point? Count me in the camp of those that like LH starters with stuff.
  20. Too bad Kentrail Davis wasn't overdrafted when Mike Trout went off the board one pick before the Crew.
  21. People here are acting like this is the 90's or early/mid 2000's where if you played baseball, started in the OF and had a pulse, you hit 30 HR's and had an OPS over 800. I know it's not what people want to hear, but that just isn't the case anymore. Why are we stuck to this standard of evaluating what we think a young player's peak will be based on what really good numbers used to be? It's OK to draft a very good player in the first round, and this kid is only in HS. Who knows?
  22. I'd love to have him. With the way this year is going, it's likely we'll have a top 5 pick next year at a minimum. If you hit a home run on Aiken, you are looking at 2 potential impact players arriving in Milwaukee at the same time. If you miss, it's pretty much what we've been doing the past 10 years or so in the first round. You just have to hope you don't totally whiff in round 2 and beyond. In a market like Milwaukee, you have to gamble on impact talent because you won't get it in FA. "Safe" gets you mediocre at best.
  23. What was Aiken's ceiling considered to be at the time of last year's draft and prior to the surgery? If he projects to move fast assuming his recovery goes well, I don't see why the Crew wouldn't strongly consider rolling the dice on a potential top of the rotation guy especially considering their dicey history in first round the past several years. It's not like you're expecting to get much more than 6-8 years of high end performance at the big league level out of a top of the rotation starter these days anyway.
