  1. Jeff Hem, the Nashville Sounds announcer, was recently on 1250 with Sparky I believe and confirmed that the ball being used at AA and below is not the ball being used in AAA and the major leagues. I have no idea the rationale behind it (drive attendance at the lower levels?) but he did directly address that topic while noting Blake Burke's adjustment around it in response to his lower HR output at Nashville.
  2. Baseball, heck sports history, is littered with hundreds if not thousands of guys who have fallen off a cliff hard somewhere in their thirties. I'm not ready to completely throw the towel in on Yelich as guys have down seasons but is it really that hard to believe? Many of the posters here years ago were lamenting the likelihood that his contract would age poorly. Would it really be that surprising if that turned out to be the case?
  3. I'm just saying. Brock Wilkin is a bag of balls and really nothing more. The days of fleecing an Al Avila, Dave Stewart or Neal Huntington type of GM have largely gone by the wayside.
  4. In what world are we living thinking a 24 year old in AAA hitting .176 with moderate power output and a swing and miss profile is a prospect? Would anyone here be excited trading for that type of profile?
  5. I can tell you through people in the industry that arguably the biggest problem with Yelich is that he is absolutely not someone that works hard (or at all) both during the season or in the off-season. Think Ben Sheets. You'd literally need to walk him to the weight room for him to realize it exists. That said, the contract he received was extended with MA and DS fully knowing that which is inexcusable, although the entire thing felt like MA's doing given the relationship with Yelich.
  6. Start the clock on Frelick, there's little to lose. As we've seen with others, and Keston Hiura comes immediately to mind, there are very few "can't miss" prospects and if he becomes that rare special guy, that's a good problem to have. Let the chips fall where they fall. Hell, they tend to draft centerfielders every other year in the draft in the event he prices himself out, anyway. And then there's this Chuorio guy coming behind him, too.
  7. Serious question. With Frelick now in the .320 range this year, getting on base and playing better and better, is he a candidate to skip AAA altogether and get a 2nd half callup given the hole in CF on the big club?
  8. 6.) Turang is packaged at the deadline or in the off-season for a bat.
  9. Pretty sure Rosiak transferred to the Brewers beat from preps when Drew Olsen left the MJS. They've always had two full time guys on that beat, likely due to the travel and big schedule. It wouldn't surprise me to see Ben Steele, who covers Marquette athletics, or Mark Stewart or Curt Hogg, the preps reporters, transfer to the Brewers beat. Rosiak covered Marquette prior to moving over to the Brewer beat. As for TH, I will forever remember him for his post-game interview "questions" which weren't really questions but statements guiding the player or coach into an obvious response...36 years of challenging nobody in the organization. Best wishes to him but next man up.
  10. https://theathletic.com/2798709/2021/08/31/ten-mlb-hitting-prospects-primed-to-pop-into-jim-bowdens-top-50-in-2022/ Interesting read here. While Mitchell has been battling through injuries of late, the future Milwaukee OF looks really bright provided they hang on to these two. You'd like to see their power numbers spike up next year and beyond but defninitely two contracts that could help balance out the Yelich contract and open up dollars to maybe invest in one of Woody or Burnes.
  11. Could be??? If it happens, I'm not sure it's even debatable.
  12. And perhaps most importantly he is striking out at less than a 20% clip. If this isn't a blip, he suddenly becomes very interesting again. Unless I'm missing something, he has 41 K's in 146 AB's for a 28% strikeout rate.
  13. Let's all wake up and look at things for what they are. He's proven to be a defensive liability with "maybe" at best hit/power tools. Please define "sell low" with that in mind.
  14. If pitching Wins have any bearing on winning the Cy Young at this point the award itself has become irrelevant.
  15. Why Jose Altuve is even in the Major Leagues is quite the mystery Yes pick about the biggest outlier of all time to make a point. Jose Ramirez good?
  16. JBJ is also more than 10 times as expensive as both Shaw and Hiura combined. Once the contract is executed and the money is spent, why does this position matter outside of evaluating Stearns? They're all really, really bad. You can't go backward and reappropriate the money.
  17. Numbers look great. Does anyone have insight into his repertoire?
  18. If he finishes the year with less than 1.172, the team gains another year? You've got to love brewerfan.net'ers worrying about service time on a guy hitting .130 in 108 at bats. Not to overstate the obvious, but that's probably worrying about the wrong thing at this point. Personally, I'm worried about whether or not this guy is ever going to be good again, not what lies ahead 5 years from now. Seems more pragmatic.
  19. Probably not a popular view but I hope they take their time with him and don't force things at warp speed like they did with Hiura. Let him get his AB's in at each level and allow the competition to make adjustments to the success he's having. That's where I feel like Hiura was done a disservice. They ran him up so fast through the levels they never allowed adjustments to be made BOTH ways. I believe you're now seeing the bi-product of that approach rear it's ugly head at the major league level when many here had him pegged as a star. He's struggling to make the adjustments he needs to perform at the major league level and to make matters worse, his confidence is in the toilet as a result.
  20. But you're missing the point. The average catcher OPS means nothing to you but when you use small sample numbers to position your argument, it does mean something when you look at it from the lens of that "really, really bad" small stretch of baseball being so "bad" it's average for the position.
  21. A "7th inning guy who struggled the previous year?" That's really an accurate depiction of Knebel to you? Is that really how anyone would describe Corey Knebel? I think it would be fascinating based on the results in 2019 and 2020 to hear your explanation as to why Knebel would have been thought of as anything but a 7th inning guy at the VERY best on this Brewer team prior to the season. That alone could lead to a 20 page thread.
  22. How do you now that? If you want to tell me I have no proof that owners are plowing their own money into their teams I will confess to that. But the accountants on this board, like you, make the opposite argument with no proof. I have a good friend who owns two companies (with two other partners), both national. I'm certain you've heard of one of these companies. The one you would know is doing well despite COVID. The other is not. Rather than pare back production for the company that is losing money, or lay people off until things turn around, the partners have capitalized the second company from their profits and cash reserves of the first. This is hardly a novel idea. It happens all the time. If you all want to act as Mark A.'s public relations flack, have at it. But this offseason of stepping back (and you all know it's coming) is tiresome. I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore. /rant If you feel this strongly I'd suggest you go to a Mets board and pick up some Mets gear while you're at it if you're tired of things here after a dozen posts. Trust me, nobody will miss you.
