  1. Half of the game’s running time so far was in the replay review of the pickoff.
  2. Getaway day special. Swing early, get the game over, and get out of town.
  3. Is Dillard seriously trying to tell us that in July the Brewers offense has produced “a lot of runs and a lot of hits”?
  4. I always liked the Phillies 70’s vintage powder blue uniforms. Raises memories of a team I liked with Mike Schmidt, Larry Bowa, Steve Carlton, et al.
  5. I think he’s also referring to the team that has won 5 in a row and 8 of its last 10 and has seen its Fangraphs playoff probability increase to 11%.
  6. I can’t see the columns on that chart and the ads on the site block half of it. But is it telling you that Owen Miller is the best defensive first baseman in MLB and Freddie Freeman isn’t one of the top 20? What is the meaning of the alphabet soup you provided ? Does any of it translate to “ability to scoop low throws?
  7. A below league average bat is an above Brewers average bat. For my education, what advanced stats are you using to conclude that Miller is one of the better defensive 1B in MLB.? If he is it must be because most teams prioritize hitting over defense at the position.
  8. Really. It isn’t that hard to follow a baseball game and carry on a conversation at the same time.
  9. Exactly. They were saying on the telecast after he botched a couple of plays against the Cubs that Miller was out working with the coaches on footwork and scooping throws. That doesn’t sound like something you do with a seasoned, polished 1B if you think his misplays are just one of those things that happen to everyone. I don’t know how some of those advanced defensive statistics are derived, but maybe they focus more on range and fielding ground balls than the ability to come up with imperfect throws. First base is usually seen as a position where you put a prolific hitter. Even if Miller were a gold glove fielder, the team would be getting hurt by his offense. And he is not a gold glove fielder.
  10. A good first baseman doesn’t miss as many plays as Miller has in his short time at 1B for the Brewers . Maybe the stats are inaccurate or misleading, or he has been much worse for the Brewers than he has been in the past.
  11. Regardless of who should have been charged with the error, that was the easiest short hop a first baseman can get. Easier than fielding a ground ball. That flub opened the door for the inning. Miller isn’t hitting anywhere near well enough for a first baseman who is a defensive liability.
  12. Just saw that 12 teams in MLB scored in double digits yesterday. First time that has happened since 1894. The Brewers reached double digits last night too; it just took them 5 games to get there.
  13. When I see that offense I feel like the Brewers will be lucky to win a game or two out of six against them.
  14. I wonder if we’ll be seeing Harper make his debut at 1B tomorrow.
  15. Adames’ hot streaks seem to last for 2 or 3 days then he reverts to pulling off everything.
  16. I was hoping Teheran would be pulled to start this inning given that it’s a big shutdown inning.
  17. How can Dillard have the audacity to say that it seems like when Winker comes up in a big spot he delivers?
  18. The third pitch (ball 2) is completely out of the picture. The Giants prevailed in 10 innings.
  19. The Giants failed to score in the 8th. With the bases loaded Sims threw 5 pitches to Yastrzemski that were all several inches to a foot or more out of the strike zone, but he swung at 3 that almost hit him in the leg to strike out.
  20. If it isn’t still raining there, the first result of the night will be the completion of the Reds-Giants game that was suspended last night. The Giants will be starting with runners on second and third with one out in the top of the 8th. They had the runners on with nobody out before Conforto made out and the game was called.
  21. Looking at this from the bright side, with the IL stay being retroactive and the off days this week and next, Miley will only be out for sure until the weekend in Atlanta. The Brewers shouldn’t have much trouble covering the 9 games between now and then. If this is nothing more than a little “discomfort” it might be prudent to give Miley some rest now with the hope that he will be ready for the next longer stretch with no off days and in better shape later in the season. Realistically, we knew all along that with his age and history he wasn’t likely to make it through a whole season without some time off. I have a hard time even considering this (and his previous IL stint) to be bad luck.
  22. I see that the Reds have called up Encarnacion-Strand from their warehouse of prospects. It will be interesting to see how the Reds, especially their offense, respond to scoring just 3 runs in those 4 losses to the Brewers. Will that prove to be just a brief slump in the midst of a hot streak or the beginning of a fade back to .500 as projected by Fangraphs.
  23. Great comeback win. Wish I could have watched it. Thanks Spectrum. maybe if they can get service restored I can watch the archived version later today.
