Vasquez letting that pitch get by him might have cost his team two runs. That might have affected the pitcher’s focus on the next pitch.

These add on runs are a joy to behold.

Who said anything about expecting them to miss the playoffs? There is a huge middle ground between being expected to miss the playoffs and being a near given to be in them. The Brewers are in a good position to make the playoffs, but they still have a long way to go. I don’t think any reasonable baseball analyst would look at how a team has played in one week and ignore what they did the two months before that. I’d love to see Counsell’s reaction if someone said to him today “Your team has played really well since the break. It looks like you’re on the verge of making the postseason a given”.

These innings of having second and third with nobody out and only scoring one run are not that satisfying. But at least they got one.

Time for Adames to deliver after a few untimely K’s earlier in the game. Sox are looking to K him again, walk Tellez and fo after MCutchen.

Whoa. That’s quite a way off yet. Only a 3 game lead in the division and 3 games ahead of the last wild card spot. That can change in one series, much less 60 games.

I would bet mostly the latter. A weekend in Boston is pretty appealing. I love it there. My first visit to Fenway in 2012.

They’re not a big homerun hitting team to start with, and not having Devers and Story takes away about a third of them.

If you’re going to throw a bum against the Brewers might as well make it a lefty. I think Diekman is the only other LHP the Sox have, and he pitched 1.1 innings yesterday. I wouldn’t think we’d be seeing him too early. Counsell might not want to load up too much on right handed hitters because they’re going to be seeing RHP for most of the game.

Two of the three players to watch (Story and Devers) are on the IL and won’t be playing in this series. Martinez missed the first four games after the All Star break and has gone 0 for 10 in the three games since his return. Hernandez has been on the 60 day IL and will not be playing. Cora said he might start swinging a bat soon, but I wouldn’t be looking at him as a trade option for the Brewers unless there is reason to believe he will be back soon. He was off to a bad start before he was hurt. Between the injuries and a number of players having subpar seasons (Dalbec, Verdugo, Arroyo (also injured)) it’s almost remarkable that the Red Sox are at .500 considering the division they play in. They are 12-29 against AL East teams and 38-21 against everyone else. They had a great June (20-6) but have struggled in July (7-17) against mostly division rivals, though they did rebound to split 4 against the Guardians this week after losing 9 of 10 to the Rays, Yankees, and Jays. Their pitching can be atrocious at times, as evidenced by giving up 55 runs in 3 consecutive games (14, 13,and 28) against the Yankees and Jays last week. The Brewers are catching the Bosox at a good time, but they are still a formidable team. Controlling Bogaerts and Martinez, and hoping JBJ doesn’t pull the standard “former Brewer” act will be key. -

Actually, I think it was less than 300 feet. The posted distance to the RF corner is 345 feet and this looked more than 50 feet short of the wall.

I don’t know of a simple way to quantify this without going through his game logs one by one. But, at a high level, the Brewers are 34-29 in games in which Renfroe has played, so nothing significant there. In the 34 wins, Renfroe has an OPS of 1.002. In the 29 losses he has an OPS of .585. So, it is fair to say that the Brewers offense is a lot better when Renfroe hits than when he doesn’t. He has had both hot and cold streaks.

In my travels I’ve found that to be pretty normal because many fans are more inclined to articulate their negative thoughts to get them out of their system. If you think Brewers and Twins fans are negative you should try Detroit, New York, and Philadelphia.
