  1. 2 days in a row for a Pirate with a 3HR game. Throw this game in the trash can and hope Burnes can cool them off tomorrow.
  2. Hopefully this isn’t going to turn into one of those infamous PNC Park lost weekends but this is an ugly performance.
  3. When your top 3 relievers are out for the night and the starter leaves in the third inning you’re kind of stuck using your mop up man and hoping for the best.
  4. Adames looked like he was trying to tie the game on one swing even though there was nobody on base.
  5. I also saw something about how he was working on something with mechanics to try to get back on track. Maybe he altered his delivery and that aggravated something.
  6. Looks like the opponents won’t have Houser to kick around for awhile.
  7. Should have added “Don’t throw batting practice pitches to everyone else.”
  8. Some people get more excited after each win than others, and some people get more down after losses than others. From my experience that is a fact of life. There can be differences of opinion about what “grounded in reality” means, both in sports and other things that are not appropriate for discussion on this board. If someone declares after a game that a certain player is “superhuman”, that doesn’t seem to be grounded in reality. But, hyperbolic reactions either way are part of being a “fanatic”.
  9. It would be foolish to move him out. He is in the spot where walks and scratch hits can do the most good.
  10. Of course not. But I don’t see anyone making preemptive strikes telling anyone not to get too excited if the Brewers win.
  11. If people want to respond to a loss to the Pirates with "this team is bad", it would probably be best to just let them wail instead of expending energy trying to convince them they're wrong. But that's just me. I do see this next set of 10 games against the Pirates and Cubs as an opportunity for the Brewers to rack up some wins and put themselves into a better position to challenge for one of the first round playoff byes, which has been my goal for the team from the beginning of the season. I think anything less than 7-3 (or at least 6-4) in these 10 games, while not disastrous, would be somewhat disappointing. It was stretches like this that the Brewers used last year to build up their division lead, and early this season to get off to a good start. Tonight's game will be interesting because we have to expect that Boxberger, Williams, and Hader will be held out unless one of them would be used in a 9th inning save situation. It's going to be up to Houser, the offense, and some of the other relievers to bring this one home. The Pirates could be in a tight spot too as they used 5 pitchers to nail down a 9-8 win yesterday, and Bednar has been unavailable due to a back issue. They haven't put him on the IL so maybe he will be ready to go tonight. Regardless, some early runs that would force the Bucs to go to the bullpen would really look good.
  12. I’m expecting better than the ERA’s in the 5’s and 6’s that they posted in June. Between giving up a lot of runs and forcing the bullpen into the game early, that is a problem.
  13. Which is why I say “if that continues”. If the number 3 spot is vacant, the 4 and 5 starters have to pull their weight. And Woodruff has to build on last night’s start and show that his problems from the first part of the season are behind him.
  14. The Brewers need better than “typical” starting pitching. Lauer and Houser have both been terrible (not typical) this month and, if that continues, just having Burnes and Woodruff as reliable starters is going to put a strain on the rest of the staff. Maybe Ashby and Alexander can fill some of that hole, but neither has enough of a track record to know what to expect from them over the long haul.
  15. Woodruff’s outing last night was very encouraging, but if Lauer and Hauser continue to struggle the rotation is going to remain a question mark.
  16. The risk of playing non outfielders in the outfield.
  17. Lots of kids groups at the game today. That might explain the early start. Start the game early so the groups can get back to their home bases earlier.
  18. I wonder what the exit velocity was on that Yelich smash.
  19. Over the course of the season that’s 50 runs, which is not insignificant. The highest scoring teams are only .7 RPG over the MLB average. Regardless, I think it makes most sense to compare the Brewers to the teams they are competing with directly for playoff positions. As of today, the Brewers have a lower RPG average than any of the other 7 NL playoff contenders by amounts ranging from .21 to .71 RPG.
  20. The more important point is that the average RPG for NL teams is 4.49 and for AL teams is 4.19. That’s the main reason why I think it’s better to limit the comparisons to just NL teams, the ones the Brewers are competing with for playoff positions.
  21. See what I added to that post about the full season.
