  1. I don’t know what posters you are talking about but I know I have made my position on this as clear as possible, including as recently as yesterday. I don’t look at the AL teams because the scoring in the AL has generally been lower and the Brewers aren’t competing with those teams. Fangraphs has the Brewers scoring 4.43 RPG the rest of the way, the same as it has been so far. The full season projection keeps them last among NL playoff contenders. I’m amused that Fangraphs projects the Brewers to win the division with 88 wins to the Cardinals 86, which is exactly what I had in my preseason prediction.
  2. I don’t really care about them, but their offense is weak for a playoff contender too. The AL doesn’t have that many teams over .500 so they could make the playoffs as a wild card team but they would have a hard time going very far.
  3. No, I think it’s been made pretty clear by most posters that they are evaluating the offense based on a comparison to playoff contenders. And mid tier for the entire league is the bottom for the playoff contenders.
  4. The Fangraphs projections for the rest of the season don’t seem to give the Brewers offense a lot of credit either.
  5. Yes, I’m glad you have noted that I have made that point about injuries. That is exactly why I raised the Rays injuries. A lot of posters here seem to think that the Brewers have had an abnormal number of injuries relative to other teams, and I don’t think that’s necessarily true. Look at some of the long term injuries to All Star caliber players the Mets, Padres, and Braves have dealt with.
  6. This guy may be a slider specialist, but he has hung a few.
  7. Hit ‘‘em where they ain’t. And they ain’t on the other side of the fence.
  8. When pop outs and 300 foot fly outs are on the list of hardest hit balls, it’s kind of meaningless.
  9. The Rays have had a lot of injuries, don’t play in the most hitter friendly park, and play in the toughest division in MLB. Yet their record and run differential are almost identical to the Brewers. They are missing Brandon Lowe, Kiermeier and Zunino, and Franco is just back after missing 23 games. The Rays are 8-1 against NL Central teams, 2-0 against the Marlins, and 3-7 against the Yankees. So, their fans are probably wishing they could swap divisions with the Brewers.
  10. Speaking for myself, I couldn't care less if people want to hope that the Brewers as currently constructed can be successful in the playoffs. Actually, I have that hope myself. But, I would like to see criticisms of the team to be addressed by comparing them to other playoff contenders, instead of the league average. In many cases, being league average makes the team the worst of any playoff contender. I would hope that the Brewers are aiming higher than that. Before the season started, the general consensus was that the Braves, Mets, Phillies, Brewers, Cardinals, Dodgers, Giants, and Padres would be fighting it out for the 6 spots in the expanded playoffs. As we approach the halfway point of the season, that's exactly how things are playing out. Those 8 teams are the only NL teams with a record over .500. They (plus the Marlins) are the only NL teams with a positive run differential. In addition to hoping for some players to improve their perfomances in the second half of the season, I would like to see some upgrades to the roster, most notably a right handed hitter who can play 1B (and maybe corner outfield).
  11. Because catcher has been one of the Brewers relative strong points on offense, I would be more interested in seeing if he could be included in a trade to a team needing a catcher in exchange for a better hitter at another position, including someone who actually has experience playing first base
  12. Looking longer term, I think Hiura is generally a wasted roster spot if he can’t hit LHP. Even against RHP with his impressive OPS in 64 PA, he has K’d close to half the time (28/64). So, when and where do you play him when Adames, Wong, Tellez, Peterson, Brosseau, and Urias are all available? The obvious spot would be 1B against LHP, but he is unproductive in that role. What the team really needs is a right handed hitting first baseman who can hit LHP and also play corner OF in a pinch. I suspect this is one of Stearns primary targets as the trading deadline approaches. Trey Mancini still looks good to me. Maybe Hiura could be a throw in piece in a trade; a team with no playoff ambition might be willing to give him some regular playing time to see if that and a change of scenery will help him release the hitting skills he has shown in the past. I also don’t see Davis as a long term solution to anything. He might be able to scratch out some hits like he has so far, but I don’t think he provides the kind of offense you want from the OF positions.
  13. It’s not encouraging that Renfroe says this injury feels “more substantial” than his hamstring injury. https://www.jsonline.com/story/sports/mlb/brewers/2022/06/26/milwaukee-brewers-hunter-renfroe-placed-injured-list-calf-injury/7738255001/
  14. I’m curious about the statement in this article that Woodruff’s fingers are “as good as they’ve been and there’s no way of knowing if and when they’ll improve any more”. It also says that he’s still dealing with reduced circulation in his middle finger. https://www.jsonline.com/story/sports/mlb/brewers/2022/06/24/milwaukee-brewers-pitcher-brandon-woodruff-returns-injury/7721330001/ Obviously, Woodruff returning to something resembling All Star form is a critical factor in the Brewers prospects in the second half of the season with the other problems with the starting rotation.
  15. Congratulations on being “right” this time. I don’t consider my 10 pack comments to be a hill to die on. It’s just making fun of the fact that for a team that has been a playoff contender, the Brewers have had a disproportionate number of real clunkers in games we have attended. since the beginning of last season. I’m sorry if that violates your code of conduct for passionate Brewer fans.
  16. FYI, in context it should have been obvious to you that the numbers I was referring to are the numbers of posts you have made in a little over two months that speak for themselves about how much time you must spend on the board. I consider 1600 posts in just over 2 months to be a lot considering that the board shows that I have made 3800 in 9 years. When you have to come back to an archived game thread to make an “in your face” post, you might want to think about who’s doing the stalking.
  17. A rare offensive explosion for the holders of the Weekend 10 Pack. In the first two innings the Brewers literally scored more runs than we usually see in a month of Sundays. After Kirk’s HR in the first and Chapman driving one to the warning track with a man on right after, I was mentally prepared for another dull afternoon. As the game moved on it looked like the Jays slipped into getaway mode and started swinging at a lot of first pitches A great series win and a successful 4-3 homestand. Now anxious to see if Woodruff can come back and perform at something closer to All Star form than he did before the injury. Another good thing about today is that Berrios has made it easy for me to decide who to cut from my fantasy team when Woodruff comes off the IL. I thought maybe he was coming around after 3 straight good, long starts, but these last two have been brutal.
  18. With Springer back, the Jays lineup consists of 9 hitters with OPS+ of 102 or higher, including 4 higher than Tellez, who leads the Brewers in that category.
  19. I think if you go around MLB the Brewers overall injury situation is not far from the norm.
  20. Berrios has had a tough season, but he is capable of pitching effectively deep into games. In the three starts before the poor start against the White Sox in his last outing, he went 7, 8, and 7 innings, allowing only 6 total runs and striking out 26. The Brewers hope today has to be for the offense to push across a couple of runs against Berrios early, hope Gonzalez doesn’t give up too much, and turn the game into a 5 or 6 inning bullpen game. With Burnes going into the 8th yesterday, and Gott and Gustave joining the roster, the Brewers have a full arsenal in the bullpen. I expect to see at least 4 or 5 relievers today unless the Jays turn it into an early blowout.
  21. Bryce Harper just took a pitch to the hand and went down in what looked like excruciating pain. If he has a broken hand or something similar that could be a major development in the NL playoff race. The way he was holding his hand a broken thumb would not surprise me.
  22. I enjoyed watching Chi Chi Rodriguez play golf too.
  23. Much needed win because tomorrow’s game is going to be difficult.
  24. Maybe a manager who wants to sprinkle a lefty into a string of righties. He probably wouldn’t be playing at all if Springer were healthy.
