  1. If Urias’ thumb is the reason for his poor hitting, wouldn't it at least make sense not to hit him in the cleanup spot?
  2. I don’t know about that, but the Brewers DP per DP opportunity ratio has been pretty bad lately.
  3. It’s going to be hard to feel like the Brewers are getting out of their slump until they at least win a series. They haven’t won one since leaving San Diego 3 weeks ago (2 splits, 3 losses since then).
  4. The Brewers actually have done pretty well in day games to finish a series so far this season. But, like a lot of things, the perception is probably skewed by a few clunkers in the last few weeks, specifically home games against the Nats, Padres, and Phillies. In just road series, where the Brewers always have to move on to a new city after the game, they are 8-3, 6-2 in day games.
  5. That DP was welcome. In the category of never taking anything for granted I was watching the end of a game earlier this year where the Phillies were cruising with a 7-1 lead against the Mets. in the 9th the Mets got a few men on and scored a couple runs so the Phils brought in Knebel to close it out. He got shelled and the Mets won 8-7. Don’t want to let these guys get started.
  6. This Reed guy has the weirdest delivery the way he wraps the ball around his back before coming with the sidearm.
  7. The best thing was that he didn’t have to make a throw.
  8. Not to be a killjoy but that was a pretty simple play with the high hop. Any big leaguer has to make that play.
  9. Time for Burnes to live up to his billing. Need at least 6 strong innings tonight, especially with no Hader.
  10. When I saw that ball leave Urias’ bat I was expecting a DP. Fortunately it found a hole.
  11. The DBacks Gallen hit 4 of the first 8 batters he faced today. Peterson is trying to see if he can match that.
  12. Though in his last two starts he hasn’t pitched well enough to deserve a win.
  13. I would have to look up the exact numbers, but in the thread with preseason predictions I picked the Brewers to win the division by something like 2 games with like 88 wins. I was significantly more bearish on the Brewers than a lot of others who were talking about 95-100 wins, mainly because I was quite skeptical about the offense. Those opinions, and the basis for them, have been laid out in the offense thread. I am doing my best to put the recent slump in context, especially because the schedule does get more favorable from July forward. But the offense being even worse than I expected and the pitching falling far short of expectations (even recognizing the injuries) I don’t expect the Brewers to make the playoffs. I’ll keep the expected wins around 86-87, but I don’t think that will be enough to win the division. The next checkpoint should be the end of July when we see if the Brewers can shake the current doldrums, what moves they and other contenders make, and what the injury situation is around the league.
  14. Right now the Brewers fit in sitting at home watching the playoffs. They are 1.5 games behind the Giants, who are now in the final wild card position.
  15. This game is cruising along at only 2:30. I think the Brewers ABs account for about 20 minutes.
  16. Brewers are two for two with RISP. Unfortunately, it’s two DPs.
  17. They have good baseball to keep their attention. They don’t need a carnival sideshow.
  18. Living happily with a family in Whitefish Bay and out of the public eye.
  19. Make that 4 HR and 9 RBI for Goldschmidt in the Pirates series, and todays second game is only in the second inning.
  20. Goldschmidt took a day off Sunday and now he’s back with a vengeance. 3 HRs in 3 games (so far) as the Cards look to pad their division lead with a 4 game sweep against the Pirates. Flaherty will be making his first start tomorrow. If the Brewers don’t figure something out soon the Cardinals might do what the Brewers did last June: go from second place to an 8 game lead in the division in two weeks.
  21. Yelich has a noodle arm but nobody would have had a play on a ball hit that deep.
  22. I don’t know about a guarantee to the NLCS, but considering that they have missed deGrom for the whole season and Scherzer and Megill for a significant part of it, they are really impressive.
