  1. Another hole to dig out of. Brewers have now completed the cycle of all 5 starters having a crappy start.
  2. Another game, another pitcher who can’t get the ball over the plate. And 45 minutes to get through 2 innings.
  3. Way to take advantage of a gift. Maybe that will get the offense going.
  4. They really went cold well before the playoffs. In September they were 12th in the NL in runs scored while they took their time trying to wrap up the division. So, basically they had two terrible offensive months to start the season (12th in NL at the time of the Adames trade), followed by 3 good months and capped off by another poor month.. Some of that was affected by various injuries, but there were also several regulars who floundered to the wire and that continued in the Braves series. A significant part of the concern coming into this season is whether players like Adames, Urias, and Narvaez will contribute as much offensively as they did in 2021 and whether Renfroe can replace Garcia's production. It's certainly reasonable to question whether Adames can repeat the .365/.521/.886 he produced after joining the Brewers. And Urias getting injured and essentially missing all of the spring games doesn't help either. Recognizing that the season is still in its pre-embryonic stages, any concerns about the offense certainly haven't been alleviated by the early season woes against some pretty mediocre pitchers.
  5. Those numbers look good but anyone who has seen every one of Yelich’s ABs can see that he hasn’t looked anything like the hitter that played in the first half of 2018, much less the MVP of the second half of 2018 and 2019 before the knee injury. I would like to see him drive a ball into the alleys once in a while.
  6. There might be some good news today. Every year since the Brewers 13 game winning streak to start the 1987 season I’ve paid attention to how long it takes for the last undefeated team to lose. Unless the Rays can come back from a 9-0 deficit no team this year will reach 4-0 and the record of 13 will remain.
  7. And it only took 3 hours and 25 minutes to stuff in all of that action.
  8. What’s worse? That the Brewers are 2 for 22 with RISP, or that they’ve only had 22 AB’s with RISP in 4 games?
  9. Adames isn’t helping. His fielding in these 4 games has been horrible.
  10. I think it’s going to be a fact of life with this team that a high percentage of their runs are going to come on HRs. It’s hard to string together hits with batters like this.
  11. Maybe it’s easier to hit in a lineup with hitters like Bogaerts, Martinez, Devers, et al. around you.
  12. Not having it both ways. The fact that a supposedly bad team can win with Justin Steele starting illustrates that there is no such thing as a free win in baseball. You are reading something into my comment that was not stated or implied
  13. Not what I said at all. Simply saying that there is no such thing as a free win for any team that is capable of getting shut out against a pitcher like Justin Steele. The flawed concept, which I assume was a joke, is the idea that there is such a thing as free wins.
  14. If this is any indication of that, the games on our 10 pack last year were so dull that we seriously considered not renewing this year. I never would have thought I’d say that with a team that won the division. A significant part of it is baseball in general the way it’s played these days with 3 true outcomes and 5 minute delays to decide if a runner’s finger came off a base. But the Brewers don’t help with their uninspiring offense. In the early 80’s there were years that I went to 30-40 games a year. Now that I’m retired and have the time to go whenever I want, 10 games is plenty. At least at home with the TV on you can do other things in the four plus hours it takes to attend a game and still follow it closely. This game is a perfect example. It’s now going on 80 minutes after the first pitch and only 3 innings have been played and precious little action.
  15. It doesn’t have to be a strict platoon, but if you’re going to rest the number one catcher every 3 or 4 days anyway, might as well target the games against lefties.
  16. Just not walking the first batter makes him the staff ace.
  17. In other words, no such thing as “like free wins”. Especially for an offense that is capable of being shut out in a game started by Justin Steele.
  18. I am more than willing to avoid watching Williams if it will produce these results. It’s a “relief” to salvage a game in this series that by any objective measure was poorly played against a weak team.
  19. I’m not going to be able to watch Williams. If his lack of command from ST carries over this is going to be an excruciating inning.
  20. The replay ump must have forgotten one of the basic rules of replay. The general rule is that if there is no conclusive proof, the call on the field stands. But there is an exception that says that if the Cubs are involved, and there is no conclusive proof, the call goes to the Cubs regardless of the call on the field.
  21. That’s one line, but the pitchers have to get the ball over the plate too. 20 walks, 3 HBP, and 3 WP in this series. And a lot of those free base runners have scored.
