  1. Walk, error, two wild pitches. The Cubs don’t have to do anything to score in this series. Two for 2 bad outings from Cousins. Can’t wait to see Williams, who couldn’t find the plate in spring training either.
  2. Time to find out if the relievers are more ready than the starters.
  3. The Brewers have solved their problem with poor hitting with RISP. The solution is to not put runners on base at all.
  4. That was a soft liner that would have been a one hop DP to the fielder stationed near second if Stroman hadn’t caught it.
  5. 76 pitches in 3 innings. That’s probably it for Peralta for today. Is the wind really blowing out there? The wind here is out of the southeast and at Wrigley that would be straight in from CF. Whatever the wind is doing it doesn’t seem to be affecting the four or five week tappers weak tappers the Brewers have hit to the first baseman.
  6. Time to watch the Masters again. This might not be the best week for the Brewers to be playing a 4 game series against the Cardinals. They might be 7 or 8 games out by next Sunday.
  7. The Brewers supposedly great rotation looks like it didn’t have any spring training. Why would a team try to steal a base when they have a good chance of scoring from first on 3 more walks or HBPs.
  8. Wait until tomorrow when this offense has to face a good pitcher. Peralta struggled in spring training too and we’re seeing that it isn’t as easy as just flipping a switch when the season starts.
  9. Cubs are likely to equal or top their 2021 win total against the Brewers by the end of the month.
  10. You know your offense is bad when you’ve hit into almost as many DPs as you have hits.
  11. I’m not sure who will end up with the most, but I expect that every one of those guys will hit fewer HRs than they did last year, except for maybe Yelich who is starting from such a low point. My guess would be Renfroe, but with something closer to 20 than 30.
  12. I’m hoping this will encourage one of them to buy the tickets I have listed for one of the games later this month. My daughters refuse to go to Cubs games because of some unpleasant experiences in the past, and I don’t argue with them.
  13. Counsell threw in the towel after the first inning. Thank goodness for yesterday’s postponement. This pitching staff is not ready for the season and at least a 3 game sweep by the Cubs isn’t as bad as a 4 game sweep. Maybe by the end of May they’ll be ready.
  14. With this lineup two men on base and nobody out with the cleanup hitter coming up isn’t even a scoring threat? There isn’t one guy in the lineup that you want to see up when there’s a chance to drive in runs.
  15. Any chance of a sudden snowstorm? Woodruff was awful in spring training and he looks worse in cold weather.
  16. Regardless of what they are paying him, if Yelich goes for a month or two like he did last year, I expect that there will be a change in how much he plays and/or where in the order he hits.
  17. I think there’s more than a 50% chance this game will be postponed. Today’s weather is making yesterday’s look pleasant with more persistent rain showers and an expectation of some snow bursts that might produce some slushy accumulations. I’d rather see the game called than to risk injuries in conditions like that. Based on the time a few years ago when the Cubs called a game early in the morning on what turned out to be a nice day because their pitching was strained, I wouldn’t put it past them to try to start today because they want to ride their momentum.
  18. Out of curiosity, what projections are there for Yelich for this season. I do not subscribe to Baseball Prospectus so I can’t see theirs. But, a couple of fantasy sites I’ve seen project Yelich with an OPS a little over .800 with HRs in the low 20’s. If I believed those projections I’d feel a lot better about the Brewers offense. But, watching Yelich the last two seasons, and then seeing his swing this spring and yesterday, I expect something much closer to what he did last year. And if he does that, projections for the overall offense and the team have to come down too.
  19. I think that’s a tortured interpretation of those numbers, even if they are to be believed. And I don’t put that much stock in preseason projections. But, even if we do believe them, a team’s chances of winning the World Series reflect an evaluation of the whole team, not just the offense or pitching or defense. The Brewers’ chances of winning the World Series are where they are largely because of an expectation that their pitching will be at or near the top of the league. The Dodgers will most likely be at or near the top of the league in runs scored. Just because they don’t win the World Series doesn’t mean their offense wasn’t championship caliber. Using your logic if a team has the best hitting and worst pitching in the league and loses playoff games 10-8 that would mean their offense wasn’t championship caliber. I don’t think you really believe that. When Christian Yelich in his current state can seriously be considered the second best hitter on the team, that is an offense that is going to have trouble winning playoff games and series when they aren’t facing back end starters and relievers. A result like scoring 6 runs in 4 playoff games is not that shocking.
  20. I think you’ve put your finger in why some people are not so bullish on the Brewers. It is not a championship caliber offense. And now that the bar is set higher than just making the playoffs and bowing out early, the offense lowers the ceiling.
  21. Not so good to see that the Brewers bullpen stunk today too.
  22. He’s usually not a big strikeout pitcher but you’d never know that from watching the Brewers hitters.
  23. Hendricks throws up crap. Brewers flail away.
