  1. Counsell is apparently conceding this game, realizing that 3 runs is an insurmountable deficit.
  2. Remind me why Joc Pederson was booed so roundly in Milwaukee. He certainly has gotten the last laugh.
  3. The one scoring chance of the day goes down the drain.
  4. I was hoping for Cain to dribble one between the first and second basemen but instead he whistles one and Swanson makes what could be a game saving play.
  5. Yelich hitting third isn’t much of a problem when the 2, 4, and 5 hitters whiff around him. I had concerns about the Brewers offense coming into this series but I expected them to produce more than the 2020 team did in its cameo playoff appearance.
  6. If you go up and down the lineup over the last 20 games you’ll be hard pressed to find an OPS near .700 and many are quite a bit lower.
  7. Adam McCalvy @AdamMcCalvy · 25m From MLB Network research: The winner of Game 3 in a best-of-five postseason series tied at 1-1 has gone on to win the series 39 of 54 times (72.2%) entering 2021. That definitely didn’t sound right. Either I heard it wrong or they said it wrong.
  8. Surprisingly, they said on one of the telecasts last night that the winner of game 3 in a DS in which the teams go in tied at 1-1 has only gone on to win the series 54% of the time. I didn’t catch how many series or how many years this covered but that seems counterintuitive. Even recognizing that, this is undeniably a huge game. I don’t think the Brewers can go 6 innings without getting a runner in scoring position again. Anderson is more than capable of shutting down the Brewers like Morton and Fried did and like he did in May. Peralta is capable of shutting down the Braves too, but I don’t think the Brewers have any inherent pitching advantage in this game. 538 gives the Braves a 57% chance of winning.
  9. They were playing the Big 10’s equivalent of the Cubs pitching staff.
  10. Just to be clear I wasn’t saying Yelich “shouldn’t be out there”. I am just comparing current Yelich to 2018-2019 Yelich, including the first half 2018 Yelich who was a great player, but the not the MVP caliber superstar that he was in the second half of 2018 and most of 2019. I would love to have first half 2018 Yelich now.
  11. To say that yesterday’s game was disappointing would be a huge understatement. A large crowd buzzing with excitement and ready to explode, and for about 2 1/2 hours they get nothing to get excited about. Then the late teases fizzled quickly with more unproductive at bats. The Brewers have to find some offense quick or it’s going to be a short postseason. If this isn’t a team wide hitting slump I’ve never seen one. I can’t think of one position player that hasn’t been struggling at the plate since the team left Cleveland.
  12. I wonder if we are going to hear after the season that Yelich is going to have some kind of back surgery. It’s not just the results, but he just looks completely different to me at the plate, including his balance after his swings.
  13. Today will be my 15th Brewer playoff game, and it just occurred to me that this will be the first time I’ve gone to a Brewers playoff game where they had the lead in the series. The previous 14 games were 5 first games of series, 4 other games where the teams were tied, and 5 where the Brewers were behind in the series. The Brewers are 10-4 in the playoff games I’ve attended. Hopefully that trend will overcome the bad luck we’ve had this season with games from our 10 pack.
  14. Of course, they were playing a team with similar momentum. From September 1 both teams were 23-7. One of them had to lose.
  15. I just think the pitching staffs, top to bottom, are much better in the NL. It sure looks that way among the playoff teams. They can pile up runs against the likes of the Pirates, Cubs, Rockies, Diamondbacks, and Nats. But against each other the runs are a lot harder to come by.
  16. The AL games aren’t following the common wisdom that playoff games are close and low scoring.
  17. Given that Houser has pitched a clean inning and Peralta can be wild I’d probably have Houser at least start the inning. But, I don’t get paid the big bucks to make those decisions.
  18. No one I'd trust more. It's a huge asset to have him coming out of the pen. If they get another runner on they almost have to pinch hit for Houser. ETA- Narvaez eliminated that problem.
  19. Great recovery by Burnes after those first two hitters of the game. Almost have to pinch hit for him now to see if they can get something started. But, I don’t like the feeling that one gopher ball from the bullpen probably loses the game.
  20. What is the point of the base cam? Does it really add anything to our enjoyment or understanding of the game to see close ups of a runner’s spikes kicking dirt into the camera?
