  1. Unless being used sarcastically, I think of “vintage” in connection with something of high quality that has been around for some time. “Vintage Freddy” may actually be an oxymoron. Probably just better to say that today was not Freddy at his best.
  2. The Pirates as a team may not be very good, but their infield defense has looked pretty solid in this series.
  3. Maybe not vintage Freddy, but not exactly uncommon either. Freddy has a lot of inefficient outings.
  4. Bad week for Suter. A blown save/loss and a “put it out of reach”.
  5. Whoever was 99% sure Yelich would be in the lineup tonight was 100% wrong. If he’s not ready yet, might as well put him on the IL and give him the full 10 days.
  6. Shaw’s HR could be used as evidence to rebut the argument that the ball has been deadened. I can’t believe he hit one into the bullpen with that swing.
  7. If I saw this right, 7 of the 8 position players in the Cubs starting lineup today have current BA’s under .200, and the lone exception is Baez at .220. Even the Brewers getaway day lineup only has 4.
  8. I'm less certain, as it made all the sense in the world for him to PH in the 9th yesterday. Either he wasn't even healthy enough to take one AB, or they still are uncertain enough where they didn't want to reset the date on a potential retroactive IL stint. I agree with this. They’ll see how he is tomorrow and Friday and if he can’t go Friday he’ll go on the IL.
  9. They had to put either Yelich or Cain on the IL, if not both. Hopefully this suggests that Yelich is closer to a return.
  10. Exactly why they went out and got a veteran 4th OFer who has historically given fairly competent offense+defense. Looks like they need to add a 5th to cover for Yelich’s recurring injury issues.
  11. Either Yelich or Cain has to be going on the IL by Friday, if not tomorrow. Can’t play down two outfielders for very long. I expect to see Taylor soon.
  12. Since Yelich is out again tonight I have to assume he’ll be out tomorrow too and they’ll decide after the off day on Thursday if he’ll be going on the IL.
  13. Not only is that inexcusable from a managerial perspective, but it puts Rasmussen in a tough spot. Even though they give a pitcher all the time he needs, pitchers seem to have trouble when thrown into a game unexpectedly without going through their normal preparation. Hader better get loose.
  14. This is looking like one of those situations where Yelich will be out for 4 or 5 days while they decide whether he needs to go on the IL. So, for a few days they’ll be playing a man short.
  15. At what point will Yardley prove that he can’t be counted on to get anyone out this year? This game has gone from 7-0 to just hoping that they’ll still be in the game to give Hader a chance.
  16. I’m watching the Masters and have the Brewers on with no sound. Did they say anything about Yelich or should I just assume he has an oblique injury because that seems to be contagious. Just when things were looking up a little.
  17. My guess is that Hader’s agent complained about Hader not having any save opportunities this year so Counsell wants to set one up for him. Lindblom has orders to put two men in base.
  18. Well, it didn’t take long to make it a ballgame again. I would bet that before this game is over Hader will be pitching with the tying run at the plate.
  19. Lindblom is in. I hope Williams and Hader are doing their stretching and getting ready to warm up.
  20. That's wild, right. I would have thought that a ball that goes over the fence without ever hitting the ground would be a HR unless there is a specific ground rule that covers that.
  21. Both Goldschmidt and Arenado are right-handers though. I don’t think Suter’s lefty-righty splits are so great that it would make that much difference especially with a 5 run lead.
