  1. JP is the 7th inning guy. Counsell is nothing if not consistent, for better or worse. Having a reliever pigeonholed to an inning with the possible exception of the 9th is just so dumb. That's not directed at you, and I still like and appreciate Counsell, and I'm not saying Rasmussen was a bad move here. But I've been so disappointed with CCs evolution as a bullpen manager. I have a feeling Counsell is looking at Feyerheusen as the closer today. Obviously no Hader, and Williams has appeared two days in a row. Even though he only faced one batter last night he had to go through the whole process of getting ready to enter.
  2. Yep, because the Brewers pen has been terrible. The pen has some really good pitchers and some who aren’t so good. We’re going to be seeing some of the latter over these next 4 innings.
  3. This game is unfortunately following the expected script. With Burnes only going 5 innings, it’s probably now headed for a final like 5-0.
  4. It’s going to be hard enough for the Brewers to score, but it’s going to be impossible if the ump is going to call strikes on balls that are both low and outside.
  5. Brewers have had good fortune against him in the past. Not sure how this particular lineup who couldn't do anything against a bum like Gant yesterday is going to fare, though. The stats linked at the top of this thread suggest that most of that past success came from players not on the current roster. They bombed Flaherty in a game last year, but I’m afraid he’s going to cruise through this lineup like most everyone else has.
  6. Two big questions today: 1. Can Burnes pitch at least 6 scoreless innings to keep the Brewers in the game, or will he be rusty after being out for a few weeks? 2. Will the Brewers be able to scratch out a run or two?
  7. I wish he had started throwing the ball down the middle on the first pitch instead of falling behind 3-0. Now the tying run is at the plate as Hader’s pitch count approaches 30. Molina hitting a tying HR would be too much to take.
  8. Tonight is the rubber match between Goldschmidt and Arenado in the battle of “Game Winning HRs against the Brewers”. Who ya got?
  9. That’s an interesting analysis. It’s consistent with my general observation that Brewers hitters often take a good, hittable pitch for strike one and then swing at a pitch out of the zone to put themselves in an immediate 0-2 hole. It would be interesting to know if this is a philosophy coming from the hitting coach.
  10. Tonight is the best opportunity for a win. Woodruff needs to hold the Cards to no more than a run and hope that the offense can get a couple of runs off of Gant, who has been a little shaky. Tomorrow will be tougher to score with Flaherty on the mound, and it’s hard to know what to expect from Burnes after two weeks off and coming off a shaky outing in his last start.
  11. one flaw with your statement is that they HAVE WON the majority of their games I don’t see that as a flaw because when the Brewers were 17-10 they were getting near perfect pitching in a high percentage of games and they were winning most of them. The last 10 games they have had near perfect pitching in some games, but have lost a few of them, and had less than perfect pitching several times and lost all of them. The Brewers aren’t winning many games in which they give up more than 2 runs in 9 innings.
  12. Just another example of the pattern that fits the vast majority of the games this season. With near perfect pitching, the Brewers have a chance to win, but too often even that isn’t good enough. It really hurts to burn up the heart of the bullpen in a loss.
  13. Like you can see into the future. No, but I can see into the past and expect that the future will be similar.
