  1. Literally the first ball that Yelich has turned on and pulled hard this season, including the intrasquad games. Hopefully a baby step toward getting back to something resembling normal. Going to be a lot of innings from both bullpens today.
  2. Maybe they are that bad. Most of these guys are in their early 30’s and have histories with either injuries or limited success except in their one or two best years. So we’re talking about players on the downhill side of careers that weren’t that great in their primes. It’s unrealistic to expect many, if any, of them to be above average MLB starters.
  3. Tough first inning for Woodruff. Going to be a shorter outing from him today than what the Brewers needed to stay in the game. And now probably all the runs Gray needs.
  4. Not so weird for guys like Smoak, Healy, and Morrrison, who pretty much just suck anyway. Is it a slump if they are just bad baseball players? Narvaez has shown us nothing except they were right when we heard people saying he was not a good defensive catcher. They were wrong when they said he was a good offensive catcher. So far, he has been a big disappointment. HUGE downgrade from Grandal. Guys like Smoak, Morrison, and Helay, I expected nothing from to begin with, so they are just pretty much doing what I expected them to do. Sogard is just a guy who should never be a regular starting 3B or SS, but yet, here we are. I expected more out of Garcia, but not a lot more, he is an average guy that I was fine with when we signed him. I sincerely hope that Urias and Lauer prove to be worth the trade. With the way Grisham has performed, there is a good chance that we got hosed in that trade. The fact we don't have a real 3B and 1B just leaves us with this crap filled line-up on a daily basis. I can see what our plan at 1B was, throw some crap against the wall and see if something sticks, but what were we thinking at 3B? Yelich and Hiura are slumping, the rest, well, I think they just aren't good to begin with. As I have said before, I'm glad we only have to watch this offense for 60 games, rather than 162. To me, the Brewers current roster is like having about 7 of Hernan Perez. Guys who are in the neighborhood of replacement level, but having one or two of them is OK to serve as short term fill ins when players are hurt or need a day off. The problem for this team is that they are using these players in platoons to cover multiple positions, meaning you have 3 or 4 of them in the lineup every day. Not a recipe for a successful offense.
  5. I’m hoping that today’s game will be worth watching last the top of the second inning.
  6. 9 hits and 27 strikeouts in two games. Gray must be thinking about the no hit potential for tomorrow.
  7. And people scoffed when I suggested that Hiura looked like he could be the next Randy Ready.
  8. Looks like the “games with 9 or more K’s” streak is intact for another night.
  9. Logan Morrison batting fourth is all you need to know about the ineptitude of the Brewers offense.
  10. But at least he’s not hitting. Another night of turning the game off early.
  11. The Brewers would still have lost. They only scored 3 runs because the Reds were in mop up mode, and the Reds offense went dormant with the game in hand. If Yelich catches that ball, the game is not in mop up mode nor in hand. And it still would have been Bauer mowing down the Brewers and the Reds adding on runs against Lauer and the Brewers bullpen. It was a lopsided loss with very little point in “what if’s”.
  12. The Brewers would still have lost. They only scored 3 runs because the Reds were in mop up mode, and the Reds offense went dormant with the game in hand.
  13. Time to find a movie to watch. Don’t see the Brewers scoring 3 tonight.
  14. If they’re only going to give him 60 pitches this will be his last inning.
  15. Brewers hitters look pitiful. Every RHP must know that all you have to do with Yelich is throw him a breaking ball low and inside and he’ll chase it and swing over it.
  16. Can tell Mathias is not an experienced outfielder. This ump has a postage stamp sized strike zone.
  17. They were talking about the first inside the park HR in Brewers history. They should be told that that was a play on which Al Kaline almost died. He collided with the CF and swallowed his tongue.
  18. This dysfunctional offense is going to be even worse with all of the platooning and pinch hitting. Hard for anyone to get into a groove with erratic playing time.
  19. I should have done it earlier, but Yelich is headed for the bench on my fantasy team. I’m beginning to think this is just going to be a totally lost season for him. Sometimes a great hitter has a rough stretch early in the year but pulls out of it after a month or two. I had Jose Ramirez on my fantasy team last year and, after a great 2018, he was horrible for 3 months. Then he had two months of OPS over 1.000 before getting injured. Yelich doesn’t have the luxury of time, and right now he is even more lost than Travis Shaw was last year.
  20. Another routine night at the office for the Brewers dynamic offense. 1 hit and 5 Ks. Could a team be duller?
  21. Not like that would be legal. Having Woodruff hitting instead of Morrison as DH might be OK until Woodruff leaves.
  22. Let me put it this way. I am not drawing conclusions based on 7 days. I am saying now what I would have said in March. Without referring to all kinds of advanced statistics and projections, my expectation was and is that the Brewers will finish lower in the league in the category of runs per game than they did last season if the “season” goes the full 60 games. It seems inevitable that their HR/G ratio will go down and I don’t think they have the kind of offensive players who can make up those runs in other ways. Maybe it’s a situation of the whole being less than the sum of the parts. I guess time will tell if my expectation is too low.
