  1. Really wanted the rainout. The Pirates are swinging with confidence and like they know what pitches are coming. I would rather take my chances facing them later in a DH when they might have returned to normal.
  2. I was doing my rain dance because I think a rainout would be a good result today. It may not be enough.
  3. By the time this series is over the Brewers might have the worst run differential in the league.
  4. Any chance of a rainout tomorrow? That’s the best we can hope for.
  5. How about Hiura making an error on a 40 foot throw?
  6. The question of whether sunglasses help in those conditions has been answered.
  7. Now the unstoppable Pirates are answering scoring threats, not just actual scoring.
  8. Polanco and the Pirates. You can’t stop them you can only hope to contain them. One of the usual features of these lost series at PNC is that whenever the Brewers manage to score, the Pirates answer immediately, and usually with more than the Brewers scored.
  9. Polanco’s .085 average doesn’t keep him from pounding on the Brewers.
  10. The offense is improving. They're putting the ball in play. Unfortunately, they’re replacing the strikeouts with double plays.
  11. Playing from behind again. And a wasted challenge. This is taking on the look of one of those disastrous series at PNC where the Pirates can do no wrong.
  12. I’m starting to think that one player getting all 3 of a team’s hits isn’t a formula for success.
  13. The Pirates are well on their way to evening the season series with the Brewers at 2-2. They’re 3-15 against everyone else.
  14. This game is quickly going to he** in a hand basket against the mighty Pirates.
  15. I’m not 100% convinced that wasn’t trapped. It looked to me like he had his glove pointed down so he had the ball covered when it hit the ground. Nothing that could have been reversed on review.
  16. The team batting splits on Baseball Reference would support that perception, and the margin is pretty wide.
  17. My beverage of choice tonight is water. On the subject of the Brewers offense, the TV announcers just hit on one of my pet peeves when they referred to the Brewers offense as “inconsistent”. They are not inconsistent; they are weak with an occasional productive game. I think the term is generally overused When applied to baseball offenses because every team, good and bad, has games when they have trouble scoring and others when they have outbursts. The trick is to have more of the latter than the former and have the normal be on the higher side. It’s harder for a baseball offense to be truly consistent day to day when they are facing a different pitcher every day.
  18. I think 33 wins has a 99 plus percent chance of making the playoffs. At the beginning of this “season” there was some talk about 25 wins being good enough, and my opinion was that anything less than .500 would run the risk of being out and that 25 would almost certainly not be good enough. The way things have developed so far, I’m sticking with the opinion that anything less than .500 will be dicey. Did I understand that first round matchups are going to be decided by having the teams with the best records choose their opponents? That could lead to some interesting motivation for the first selected opponent.

  20. Almost anyone could shut down the Brewers these days, including Kuhl, who I think has had some good games against the Brewers in the past. But, he has only pitched 14 innings this season and gave up 3 runs in 5 innings in his last start. I wouldn’t be shocked if the Brewers get a hit against him before the 5th inning.
  21. One thing we can’t complain tonight is failing to hit with RISP.
  22. Kind of strange to bring in a Rich Hill clone in a game Hill started. After the Brewers loaded their lineup with righties wouldn’t you expect one of the first relievers to be a righty?
  23. Because he’s been hurt, Hill is probably on a strict pitch limit. If that limit is at least 60 he should be good for the CG.
  24. This is game 22. Have the Brewers scored first in more than 2? ETA- my quick unofficial count is 5.
