  1. I think 35 HR and an OPS of .845 is pretty special. I don’t see García coming close to replacing that kind of production, and he’s playing RF where you are usually looking for a lot of production. Yes, Moose had a very nice season a year ago. Thinking those were going to be his numbers again would be very foolish. He has another 10 years of a career that tells you that. Maybe he wouldn’t have repeated that this year, but his last 5 or 6 years tell you that last year was not exactly a fluke. More important, though, is the point that the Brewers are losing a lot of production from last year.

  3. If you're honestly expecting that, I'm sorry to say you'll be very disappointed. Coming into last season I thought the Brewers had a chance to have one of the top 2 or 3 offenses in the NL, but getting less than nothing from Shaw and Aguilar and Cain’s rough season dragged them down to the middle of the pack. With the collection of journeymen they’re throwing out there this year I don’t see them being in the top 10 scoring teams in the league, even when Yelich and Hiura start hitting. Too many major holes in the lineup. And it’s not like they have the pitching to bail out a weak offense.
  4. Yelich can’t come through with the bases loaded, but Dyson can. Good night.
  5. Yep, really liked the walk. Three of the 4 he took were only an inch or two off the edge and he never budged. Seems like he’s seeing it well. I’m sure not seeing what you guys are. He got called out on strikes once without taking the bat off his shoulder and got some borderline calls in his favor on the walk. With the bases loaded it looked like he jammed himself and hit a lazy fly ball. I had hoped he might be coming out of it with the HR and line drive in his final 2 ABs on Saturday, but the last two games have been back to summer camp.
  6. We’re also past the point of thinking the Brewers are going to score a run tonight.
  7. Wisconsin is now being added to Chicago’s travel quarantine requirements starting Friday. WI has the honor of being the first state with a team in the AL or NL Central to make that list. We now have to see if the city will grant an exemption (as allowed by its rules) to permit players going from Milwaukee to Chicago to play without a 14 day quarantine.
  8. Schools may "attempt" to re-open, but one case in a building will shut them back down again... The biggest problem with schools is going to be teachers. Schools are always a hotbed for colds and flu, especially with younger kids, and they’re going to be telling kids and teachers to stay home if they feel sick. But there is already a shortage of substitute teachers, and how how many subs are going to want to step into that environment? Then let a teacher or staff member test positive, or worse get really sick, and it’s going to be hard to get people to come.
  9. 25-28 wins is significantly different than the original statement that all a team needs is 25 wins. In a 60 game season a difference of 3 games is like a difference of 8 games in a 162 game season. I would say that a team with 28 wins is maybe 50-50 and a team with 25 wins is most likely out.
  10. Hopes that Yelich was snapping out of his slump with the HR and line drive in his last two ABs yesterday were dashed pretty quickly. Summer Camp Yelich returned today.
  11. The flip side of that is you probably only need 30 wins to make the playoffs this year. But yeah, they look like they just started spring training this weekend. Probably need about 25 wins to make the playoffs actually. I would be really surprised if 25 wins makes the playoffs unless it is in a division in which 25 wins is good enough for second place. I don’t think that will happen in the NL Central. The last two years 9 of the 15 NL teams have finished over .500 and I wouldn’t expect it to be that different this “season”. Maybe this year will be different because the bad teams will be in theoretical contention longer, but usually as things wind down the contending teams feast on the teams that have given up. In a division like the NL Central there could be 4 teams close to .500 with the Pirates lagging behind. If one division has 4 teams close to .500 that would eliminate everyone else from wild card contention. I think it’s more likely that exactly 30 wins falls short than that 25 wins gets in.
  12. My feeling about the Brewers offense is not based on 2 1/2 games. They have an assortment of journeymen and a couple of guys nearing the end of their careers, cobbled around Yelich and Hiura. Last year’s offense was league average and this year’s is noticeably weaker without Moustakas and Grandal, and we’d be thrilled if Smoak is as productive as Thames. If Yelich is anything short of MVP caliber the offense is going to struggle, and he doesn’t have a lot of support behind him, especially if Braun is going to be more out than in.
  13. I’m really bearish on this Brewers offense. I think we’re going to see a lot of low hit, low run, high strikeout games. Sogard leading off and Smoak fourth is pretty telling that the team is woefully short on quality hitters.
  14. Cubs fan? Suter has been solid. Unless you were making a joke. I missed it. I saw your post right after Schwarber’s HR.
  15. Right that was a bad play and let Darvish off the hook.
  16. Arcia gives up an out. Stranding a runner on third with none out takes the good feeling out of the inning.
  17. Garcia has looked as bad as Yelich this week. Doesn’t look like there’s any reason to throw him a strike.
  18. Presumably he will be fine eventually. But in a short season they can’t afford a month long slump from him because there isn’t anyone like Moustakas or Grandal to carry the team for a week or two.
  19. It is extremely depressing to watch Yelich this last week. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen such a normally good hitter look so horrible in 30 ABs. The numbers don’t begin to tell how off he looks. He has been as bad as Travis Shaw was last year. This lineup with an assortment of journeymen and players in the twilight of their careers is going to struggle to score anyway, but take Yelich out and there isn’t much there. Sogard leading off and Smoak batting fourth is pretty scary.
