  1. This game is an example of why you can never take anything for granted and can’t let up. Lose concentration and even a team like the Pirates can make you pay. Arcia has made some excellent plays today, but he boots a play he should have made easily against a slow runner and it costs 3 runs.
  2. Cubs lead 2-1, last of 8th, runners on 1st and 3rd with 2 out.
  3. This is suddenly more interesting than you want. That missed opportunity in the last of the 7th is looming large now.
  4. I’ve gotten pretty good at multitasking overlapping Brewers and Packers games. I record both on the DVR and go back and forth. I’m usually a little behind on one or both games, but with judicious use of fast forward I can follow both without spending too much time. Lord knows there is a lot of dead time in both sports.
  5. My guess is that the 35 pitches through 2 innings had something to do with him coming out. I also don’t think they have any expectations that he’s going to be going 6 innings by the time the wild card game comes around.
  6. A lot of people were probably in line early to get the giveaway knit hat. That is one of the best promo items they have. Plus the drippy weather probably sent some tailgaters in early.
  7. Woodruff using a lot of pitches to get through 2 innings. Don’t think he’ll be going 4 today.
  8. Woodruff has said that because of the oblique injury he wasn’t going to try to do anything much at the plate. Don’t need a replay of the Chase Anderson injury in 2017. Don’t be surprised if they pinch hit for him to keep him from being tempted to swing too hard.
  9. Looks like the rain in the Midwest might be going a little further north than expected, so the chances of the Cubs and Cardinals getting their game in look brighter than they did yesterday, especially if they’re willing to play through some showers.
  10. They actually have 8 games (all at home), including a doubleheader against the Phillies. This is where looking at the loss column makes sense. The Nats are 1 game ahead of the Brewers, but 2 games ahead in the loss column. So, simply put, the Nats have to lose two of their remaining 9 games for the Brewers to even have a chance to catch them. The Phillies are hanging by a thread in the wild card race so hopefully they will come out swinging as their last gasp. The Indians (who the Nats play next weekend) have a better chance of still being alive when they go to DC. The Brewers have an “easier” schedule from the standpoint of not playing playoff contenders, but those road games are going to be a lot tougher than playing the Pirates and Padres at home. The Reds have pitchers fully capable of pitching shutouts. They haven’t been laying down for the Cubs and Mets.
  11. If the Cubs and Cardinals can’t get their game in tomorrow my guess is that they would tentatively schedule a doubleheader for a day in St.Louis with the Cubs being the home team in one of the games. If the Cardinals have the division wrapped up and the Cubs are out of the wild card race they wouldn’t bother with that game.
  12. If they hold this three game lead after tomorrow they should be set. A two game lead could realistically fall apart in 6 games...3? That would take a lot going wrong. Like getting swept by the Reds? That hasn’t happened in over 2 months. The Brewers are now in a good spot, but I wouldn’t take anything for granted.
  13. There isn’t a clear rule on punishment. I’d imagine the umpire would harass you a little bit to stop it and get back to the game. The rule states if you continue to break the rule they will do something...likely fines. I think that if the manager or a coach makes the excessive visit the pitcher has to be removed. If it’s a position player the umpire instructs the player to return to his position and the player is subject to ejection if he doesn’t comply.
  14. I’m now going down the road of hoping for the Cubs to lose and make it easier to get at least a wild card spot. After Sunday, down 3 with 13 to go I was hoping the Brewers could gain a game while the Cards played the Nats and then another 1 or 2 over the weekend. But now gaining 3 over the last 8 is going to be tough, and I’m wary of the Brewers suddenly losing a few in a row. The offense is operating on a thin margin with Yelich out, Grandal wearing down (and apparently recovering from the flu), and Cain, Braun, and Hiura all at less than full strength. So, at least for the day I’m hoping for the Cubs to lose. If the Cards lose at least something positive comes from it.
  15. Aren’t you bad luck this year? No. The last game against Arizona was bad but for the year I’m 10-2.
  16. That’s the way to stomp on a team while they’re down. Last game on the Weekend 10 pack tomorrow.
  17. I remember the part from the old musical Damn Yankees where Applegate, the devil tells Lola to repeat his mantra “Never feel sorry for anybody. Never feel sorry for anybody...”. Once you start feeling sorry for a team they’ll come back and bite you. "Whatever Lola wants Lola gets" (isn't this song from that musical?). Yes, along with the classic “You’ve Gotta Have Heart”.

  19. One of the advantages of playing bad teams late in the year is that they might give you some things. Two days in a row the Brewers have received gift runs. Now use those runs and build on them. The only thing better than a win is a stress free win that gives the top end of the bullpen a rest.
  20. I think everyone knows what happens in baseball sometimes. We also know that the Brewers are not so powerful that they couldn’t suddenly go into a funk either hitting or pitching or both. Speaking for myself, I’m talking sweep not because I take one for granted, or even expect it, but because it is probably necessary to stay in the division race and would provide a cushion in the wild card race heading into the final week. The two upcoming road series are going to be more difficult to win, much less sweep. At this stage of the season the Brewers have to take advantage of a team that is in disarray, like they did with the Marlins last week.
  21. That’s how I feel about it, although my daughters who have jobs may not be able to go to a weeknight game that will last 4 hours. Getting a WC spot but losing the WC game on the road wouldn't feel like making the playoffs.
  22. That would be nice but very premature to think about that. The opponents next week are going to be tougher than the Padres and Pirates, especially some of those Reds pitchers.
  23. Cubs lose again. A Brewers sweep over the Pirates would put them in a nice spot heading into the final week.
  24. DBacks Marte out for season making the Cards games against them a little easier.
