  1. Amusing listening to the Cardinal announcers whine about how terrible they have been getting runners in from third with less than two out. Apparently the Brewers don’t have the market cornered on that. ETA, I looked it up and the Brewers have the worst percentage in the NL at getting runners in from third with less than two out. The Cards are second worst.
  2. So much for being in a boot for a week and then being re-evaluated. He is right around when he should be returning from the original report of 5-9 days in a boot and then being re-evaluated. So it was a day earlier than the earliest expectations of him returning. Because I am used to dealing with how the Brewers report injuries, the concept of a player returning at the early end of a stated range, much less earlier, is completely foreign to me. What I heard is that Rizzo would be in a walking boot for 5-7 days and then he would be re-evaluated and a timeline for his return would be set. There were reports that the Cubs didn’t expect him back in September. I didn’t think that would mean that he would be back in the lineup after missing just 3 games. If the Brewers made the same announcement, after the 7 days they would be announcing whether or not they thought the player’s leg had to be amputated.

  4. As I said in the game thread, I am not rooting for Cards, but I’m hoping for the Cubs to lose. If the Cards lose I accept it as a consolation prize. A Brewers sweep over the Pirates while the Cubs and Cards split would be nice. Don’t want to get too far ahead of things, but I am nervous about the Brewers shaky offense facing the Reds pitching.
  5. Nice win with some gift runs thrown in. Now time to watch the Cubs and Cards. I will be hoping for the Cubs to lose (not rooting for the Cards) but will take a loss for the Cards as a consolation prize.
  6. I think a healthy, fast runner scores on that Braun hit. Even waiting for the ball to get through the left fielder was playing deep in left center and had to go a long way to pick it up. Need Austin to make it a moot point.
  7. Maybe that explains the odd start time. No games on the west coast so they can televise a late afternoon game with a West coast team.
  8. I don't think it made the path "a lot" rougher. It's already rough. I figured they'd have to come close to winning out before, and that's still the case. The margin for error just got a little tighter. I guess it depends on your definition of "a lot". Maybe I was reading between the lines incorrectly, but I assumed reading your posts that you believe that the Nationals beating the Cardinals with Scherzer on the hill was kind of a foregone conclusion. I guess I just saw it a different way. The Cards are good at home, so that result didn't surprise me. Just like seeing them drop 3 of 4 this weekend to the Cubs wouldn't surprise me. Yeah, you read between the lines incorrectly. I know that nothing in baseball is a foregone conclusion, much less a playoff team losing a home game. But to make up 2 games in 11 is difficult enough because you need help, and some games present a better opportunity for help than others. And if you want to split hairs about what is “a lot”, OK. But I guess I do think that making up 3 games in 10 is a lot, or significantly, or substantially, or somewhat more difficult than making up 2 games in 11. To quantify it, yesterday Fan Graphs had the Brewers at 12.8% to win the division and today it’s at 6.3%. Having your chances cut in half in one day seems pretty significant. Back to today’s game, which is obviously important to the Brewers playoff hopes, as are all of the remaining games until they clinch or are eliminated.
  9. I’m puzzled. When I said yesterday that the Brewers’ path to the division title had gotten a lot rougher with the Brewers loss and the Cardinals win, you seemed to disagree with me. But now you’re basically saying exactly what I was saying. Not really ... I am saying this afternoon's game is nearing "must-win" territory, while having confidence that they will, in fact, win it. Call it hope or "pie in the sky" dreams or whatever, but I am banking on this team playing well in these last 10 games, putting 8 in the win column, and winning or being tied for the division lead with 90 wins. But yeah, for that to happen, this afternoon's game is pretty important. Yeah, I just looked, and what I said above is pretty much spot on what I said last night, so I'm not getting where you are puzzled. Do you agree that yesterday’s results made the Brewers path to the division title a lot rougher than it had been starting the day? If so, I don’t understand why you responded to me the way you did. Not a big deal.

  11. As much as I’d like to see Yelich in the lineup it isn’t fair to say that. You never know if any one hitter is going to go 0 for 4 or just not be in a position to produce runs.
  12. They weren't going to win out. You know that. It’s not just the Brewers losing tonight, it’s the Cards beating Scherzer and the Nats. I was hoping on Monday that the Brewers could gain at least one game on the Cards playing 3 at home against the Padres while the Cardinals were playing the Nats and their top 3 pitchers. Just marking time for 3 days with so little time left is a loss.
  13. The path to the division title got a lot rougher today.
  14. Braun never comes through in the clutch.
  15. I miss looking at the lineup and anticipating when Yelich will be coming up.
  16. looks Like he was out of the running lane.
  17. Can Cain get around on this guy’s fastball?
  18. We are going to lose and we are going to lose on days the other guys win. I don't think dropping this game is particularly crushing. All that assuming we can't score a couple of runs in several innings. If we drop this game it isn't the end of our season gentlemen. Nobody said it is.
  19. The dangers of playing an infielder in the outfield.
  20. Did he also say that if you play .500 ball for 5 months you can’t afford many losses in September?
  21. Please keep it in the park against Manny.
  22. Have a feeling this game is going down the drain. Not sure the Brewers are scoring tonight anyway, but now the Padres can feast on the bottom of the bullpen to pad their lead.
