  1. These strikeouts the last two nights are getting ridiculous. Can’t afford a team wide hitting slump.
  2. Are they going to a true 6 man rotation or just a 6 day rotation for their best pitchers? The Reds have off days on Thursday and Monday and Castillo is scheduled Friday. You might think they would have Castillo make his final start against a contending team on Thursday instead of having him pitch against the Pirates, especially since he almost no hit the Brewers in July.
  3. I had to cringe at Houser’s late slide into third.
  4. Don't know for sure, but he seems fine. I think he just threw a really bad 0-2 pitch as we have seen many times from our pitchers this season. My point was that if he’s thinking about whether throwing IG going to hurt, he might be less focused on location. But, yeah, 0-2 meatballs are all too common.
  5. I was just going to post that Hauser staying in seems like a bad risk. Then he gives up a bomb. Have to wonder if the pain in his back is affecting his concentration.
  6. If the Cubs lose today, I'll be hoping the Cubs get 3 of 4...otherwise I think I'm with you on the split. A cubs loss today and 3 of 4 against the Cards, along with us getting 3 of the next 5 would make the standings Wash 86-68(I'm assuming they sweep the Marlins, but you can do the math if they only get 2 of 3 here) Chic 85-71 Stl 86-70 Milw 85-71 Obviously would be so much better to get 4 of 5...but let's be real, we're not winning out the rest of the way and 4 of 5 is also a pretty high expectation. I would be very content if the standings looked like this heading into the final week. That would be OK, but I’m afraid that if the Brewers only win 3 out of 5 they are putting themselves in a dangerous position. Getting 4 out of 6 next week is going to be tougher than 4 out of 5 on the home stand. The Reds pitching has the potential to give the Brewers a lot of trouble.
  7. I think the chances of the Nats missing the playoffs are pretty low. With 3 games against Miami and then 8 home games they should be good for at least 90 wins. If the Brewers get a wild card game it will be against the Nats, Cards, or Cubs. I would rather it be the Nats because a loss to either of the other two would be infuriating. Still hoping for a Nats comeback today. Ehh. Their schedule might be the toughest of the 4 contenders for 3 spots in the NL. When in Miami, they'll roll out only 1 of their 3 horses. There's definitely a chance Miami takes a game off them. Not sure how you can conclude that the Nats schedule is tougher than the Cubs or Cards schedules with their 7 head to head games. After Miami, their last 8 games are at home, including 5 against the fading Phillies, who have 10 games left on an 11 game road trip to Atlanta, Cleveland, and Washington and might on life support by the time they get to DC. And Miami is even worse than the Pirates and DBacks, , who are the Cubs and Cards other opponents.

Still hoping for a Nats comeback today. lol - comeback not happening after that...when it's your day, it's really your day Yeah, that 3 run HR taken away should do it. Too bad Martinez wasn’t out there.
  9. He clearly has more faith in Scherzer (who isn’t a complete automatic out) for one more inning than what he’d get from the bullpen. The Nats bullpen is their biggest weakness. Remember that 15-14 game.

  11. Luck was definitely on the Cardinals side today. Between the cheap hits and the ball lost in the sun, the Cardinals have been gifted several runs. What ticks me off even more is that I have Scherzer on my fantasy team, which is now in playoffs. That ball lost in the sun cost 3 “earned” runs and guarantees a loss. With Yelich and Trout out I need pitchers to bail out the offense, and this doesn’t help. BTW, I hate the Cardinals TV announcer. He may not be as big a homer as the Pirates announcer, but he’s close. I should have remembered that because this is one of the few afternoon games I could have picked the Nats announcers on Extra Innings.
  12. Realistically which team do we want to win this game though? I mean I think our playoff odds are better if the Nats lose and we gain a game on them. But if I could choose the results I want the Cardinals to be out of the playoffs. We historically play so poorly against them I want nothing to do with them come the postseason. And I want no part of the WC game, even if I think CC and the guys would handle that with aplomb. Too many variables in a one-game setting. Division all the way. Go Nats. Winning the division is the goal. Wild card is a consolation prize.
  13. Kind of surprised to see Perez hitting for Spangenberg. I expected Spangenberg to be moving to second with Arcia at SS when Hiura goes out. That seems like an unnecessary move.
  14. Your last sentence is my main point. Using Woodruff as the latest example, they said 6 weeks so people think he’s going to be back in 6 weeks at full strength ready to take his regular spot in the rotation. As often as not that’s when pitchers start throwing off a mound. If this were the middle of the season he would have had at least one rehab start in the minors before rejoining the Brewers. I have no problem with being conservative with injury recoveries, but I wish they’d be more open about return times.
  15. https://www.espn.com/video/clip?id=26834784 He says he does. He’s had other incidents in other places.
  16. Oblique injuries are extremely tough to get a read on, because they are a tough muscle to rehab. yeah, it's a bummer that it was on the longer edge of the timeline, but I wouldn't say the Brewers suffered too much not having Woody over the last 2-3 weeks. Where it hurts is that he won't by fully stretched out for the beginning of the postseason. My broader point is not about Woodruff or oblique injuries, but Brewers injuries in general. My rule of thumb is to take the back end of the range they give and add a week and that ends up being accurate as often as not. The worst example was when they said Greinke would miss two starts to start the 2011 season and he missed two months. They explained that they only meant that they would need a fifth starter only twice while Greinke was out, and even that was grossly understated. The other was saying Nelson would miss much of the first half of the 2018 season.
  17. Reds off to a quick 3-0 lead as Aquino breaks out of his recent slump with a 2 run homer. Hopefully Gray can contain the red hot Cubs offense.
  18. Good to see Woodruff throwing so well. It is frustrating that it took 8 weeks for him to throw 2 innings. The latest example of why I am skeptical about the timelines the Brewers give for returns from injuries.
