    Is it just me or have the Brewers been scoring a lot higher percentage of their runs the last couple of months on HRs than they did earlier in this season? I first had this thought back during the grand slam barrage in late June, and it seemed to continue through the scoring struggles in July and even during last week’s brief explosion. In the last 3 games all but 1 of their 6 runs were driven in by a HR. The Brewers are just 19th in MLB in number of HRs despite being 7th in RPG. They have fewer HRs than any of the 14 teams that are above league average in RPG. So, needing HR to score is not their best bet. But, with several players still slumping, it has been hard for them to string hits together.

    Pretty ambitious to think he’ll come up with 5 runners on base considering how few baserunners the Brewers have had the last 3 days.

    What happens in the regular season is one thing, but it’s really hard to imagine the Brewers competing with a team like this in a playoff series with the string of elite hitters they have at the top of the order.

    The Brewers have been shut down by some bum lefties who don’t have Hall of Fame level experience (even if he no longer has great stuff).. It would hardly be a shock if Kershaw could shut down the Brewers for 5 or 6 innings today

    If the Brewers want to be successful against teams like the Dodgers,, especially in a playoff setting, they’re going to have to show more maturity than they did yesterday. Things like slamming your bat after striking out, leading to a second out on an interference call, and essentially forcing the umpire to eject you from the game, can affect outcomes.

    No more hyperbolic than your remark to the OP about the Brewers winning one or two World Series if he were mangaer. You also referred to “countless” (more hyperbole) posts “bashing”:the Brewers. I would challenge you to come up with more than one or two that were truly “bashing” the team as opposed to criticizing some specific thing.

    So now, is any type of critique, concern or criticism, or anything short of pure unbridled optimism and homerism considered “bashing” the team?

    It happens occasionally these days when teams play one of their two game “rivalry series” over a weekend. This weekend it was Cubs-White Sox and Cardinals-Royals. The Brewers had the Friday after the All-Star game off when almost everybody else was playing because of their two game series against the Twins

    Not entirely true. I don’t follow them that closely but I know Turner was out for about 6 weeks, including when the Brewers played them.

    The Phillies troubles seemed to start when Harper, Schwarber, and Realmuto all went on the IL. Those guys are back but the team hasn’t found its form from the first 2-3 months.

    There’s nothing like my daughters and me attending a game on our 10 pack to silence the Brewers offense. We got that out of the way last night so the Brewers should be good to go today.

    Twins complete the doubleheader sweep to cut the Guardians lead to 1.5 games.

    He was responding to my very simple observation that the Guardians were sailing along but suddenly lost 6 in a row and saw their 6 game lead drop to 2.5 in less than a week. And that wasn’t because the teams behind them did anything unusual or special.

    We’re seeing the latest example of how quickly the complexion of a division race can change. Last Friday the Guardians beat the Orioles for the second night in a row to boost their record to 67-42. They have led the AL Central since mid April, and have led by as many as 9 games. After that win last Friday they led the Royals by 6 games and the Twins by 6.5. Their announcers were trumpeting the fact that the Guardians had not lost more than 3 games in a row all season. This afternoon, the Guardians lost the first game of a doubleheader to the Twins to kick off a four game weekend series. It was the Guardians sixth loss in a row and cut their division lead to 2.5 games over the Twins and 3.5 over the Royals. That is suddenly a tight 3 team race that could get tighter based on the weekend games.

    j I think everyone understands the basic arithmetic and probability. But we have also seen enough of those outliers, involving the Brewers and others, to recognize that what seems nearly impossible or highly improbable does happen in baseball. Things like the 2014 Brewers going 71-55, and then 11-25 the rest of the way to go from leading the division by 3 games to finishing 8 games behind the Cardinals. Or the 2021 Cardinals, who were 69-68 finishing 21-4 to come from nowhere to claim a wild card spot. So, I don’t think it’s so much negativity and pessimism as it is caution and not taking anything for granted. Note my signature.

    True it is very unlikely, but teams ahead of you is much less of a problem when those teams are closer to you than they are to the team on top. If any of those 4 teams suddenly wins something like 12 out of 15, the teams that are 2 or 3 games ahead of them now probably wont be a problem.

    They have gotten plenty out of this series regardless of what the Cardinals do. When you’re ahead just getting days off the calendar without losing ground is a plus. They’ve also hopefully regained some confidence in the offense that has been struggling for the last two months. I would hesitate to call a team “virtually eliminated” this early. It’s hard to predict what will happen in the mosh pit of mediocrity that is currently in 2nd through 5th place if the Brewers open the door for anyone to move up.

    By the definitions set by some on this board that would be considered cherry picking to support a narrative. I happen to think that pointing out what has happened in the most recent set of games covering a period that long is relevant information.

    Not all in the same series, but it is reminiscent of the 6 game string of 58 runs they had in April .

    Addition does not seem to be one of Levering’s strengths. He just said the Brewers have scored 40 runs in 2 1/2 games against the Braves in this series.
