  1. If Yelich is going to be out a few more days (which wouldn’t surprise me) and the Brewers were to call up Donaldson, they could just plug him in at DH with Canha in the OF. I seriously doubt that they would put him in the field right away.
  2. I think with game threads you have to take into account that each game is a separate event. Fans process every game, every day and then move on to the next day. Today the Brewers did the worst thing they could have done. They not only lost, but they lost in very frustrating and maddening fashion with some questionable managerial decisions (or at least one very notable one) to make it worse. To top it off, they lost a game off their division lead. If you want people to look at the season as a whole while a game is going on and shortly after, a game thread is the wrong place.
  3. They’ll be facing some good pitching against the Marlins. Let’s see what the Brewers can do with them. They are the one playoff contender that compares to the Brewers, but their ballpark is a factor in that.
  4. That’s like a triple loss. Lose a game, lose a game of the lead, and weaken the bullpen with 14 games in 14 days still to go.
  5. A good pitcher is going to work differently with two outs and nobody on than with runners in scoring position.
  6. It still looks bad. The Braves have been coasting since they won the first 3 games of their series against the Dodgers. Or if winning a series against the Dodgers is a sign of a team that is hard to beat maybe we should be more concerned about 7 games against the Cardinals, who also just won a series in Atlanta and are going for a sweep over the Reds today.
  7. The division winner gets the home FIELD advantage but not necessarily home CROWD advantage.
  8. I enjoy the obscure players to go along with the stars, but I do appreciate an ID when using the obscure ones.
  9. I was watching a football game so just finished watching the Brewers recording. I think the most amazing thing was that there was anybody left in the stands at the end. After a 2 1/2 hour rain delay the outfield display in the 8th probably would have sent me home. And if not the bases loaded walks in the 9th would have finished me off. Have to kick those guys in the pinstripes while they’re down.
  10. There is some serious flooding at Yankee Stadium right now.
  11. Cubs take a 1-0 lead. Bellinger hit a mile high popup with two out that the 2B and SS lost in the sun let drop and Hoerner scored from first.
  12. No, but it looks like it could be a significant delay. There are slow moving thunderstorms in the area with heavy rain.
  13. The bigger immediate concern is how Miley will respond to being warmed up and ready to go and then shutting down.
  14. You have to wonder if that is related to his struggles. Put Frelick in the leadoff spot and soldier on.
  15. One of the first things that jumps out at me when I look at these numbers is the number of plate appearances with RISP. If you look at that the Brewers are 26th and most of the teams around them are terrible teams. I have said this before but I think the Brewers bigger problem is not generating enough scoring chances, not that they are horrible at converting them. The other thing I note is that the Braves are 20th in PA with RISP. But they can get away with that because of the number of HRs they hit. A team that doesn’t get a lot of runners in scoring position and doesn’t hit a lot of HRs is likely to be a poor scoring team even if they are league average in delivering on those chances. The Brewers are in that category.
  16. I always like to compare the Brewers to playoff contenders, not the whole league.
  17. I got a phone call I wanted to take around the 6th inning with the score 2-2. So, I paused the game there and when the call ended I watched the rest of the game with judicious use of fast forward. It was fun seeing those runs come in rapid succession, and having the last guy in the bullpen come in with a 6 run lead and finish it without needing Williams to start throwing.
  18. Every time I see Adames hit one like that I think maybe it will teach him how good he could be if he would take pitches to RF instead of trying to pull everything. But I’ve learned that he’s not likely to change.
  19. Dominguez is smoking hot and a big reason why the Yankees have won 8 of 10. Too bad the Brewers didn’t play the Yankees a few weeks or a month ago.
  20. Makes sense to put Tellez at DH to give him a shot or two at the porch in RF. Even though Dominguez has been hot in his MLB debut I would vote for walking Judge every time up unless and until you get a lead of at least a few runs. With that lineup letting Judge beat you would be criminal
  21. One out away with a runner on first, Happ at the plate and Bellinger on deck. 😬
  22. It’s up to Sewald to protect the one run lead. Correction: before the break the DBacks announcers said Sewald was coming in, but Gallen is still out there.
