  1. Batting third and doing the catching, William Contreras. He had a great game yesterday. Jansen and his .820 OPS against LHP this year will be available off the bench 🤷‍♂️
  2. Orioles are winners of five straight and going for four game sweep of Toronto. Orioles outscored Blue Jays 30-10 this week. I agree with your other points. Just sharing some Baltimore optimism.
  3. Yelich getting a day off against the lefty and Contreras simply having a day off both make equal sense to me. Contreras had a great game yesterday so we might as well give Yelich the day off.
  4. I think Vaughn has enough former prospect pedigree to likely out perform Rhys Hoskins through the 2026 season.
  5. I only mentioned salary cap. Similar to MLB except aging stars age more quickly in the NFL. The NFL seems filled with mediocre teams. Fantasy football, betting and large investments by national tv networks contribute to football having an outsized cultural place on Sundays. None of those things rely on a salary cap. I just named 25% of the league that has had little success in three decades in spite of the NFL’s equality. I could probably add more teams to the list. 10% decline in wild card viewership. Regular season declined, too. 29% decline in youth tackle football CTE is a problem, as well. NFL is more popular than MLB in terms of revenue and viewership. To me, it doesn’t mean baseball should copy football. I appreciate reasonable people can disagree 🙂
  6. I don’t think it accurate to say the NFL is popular and has a salary cap therefore salary caps are popular. The NFL’s dominance, both real and imagined, stems from many factors unrelated to salary caps. Plus, there are short term and long term signs of demand waning for the NFL. Salary caps have not helped the Browns, Lions, Jaguars, Cardinals, Texans, Bears or Jets much in the last 30 years.
  7. Agreed. Also possible Durbin is a rookie getting scheduled off days to stay fresh during a long season.
  8. Relief pitching whoah solvdd Update: Easton has only allowed 2 ER in 7 IP this year. 1.1 WHIP and 9 SO/9. That’s better than I thought.
  9. It should be noted that Shane has a 4.26 ERA and 0.6 WAR. 1.30 WHIP. 97 ERA+ and 4.20 FIP All that to say, I’m not sure Shane Smith meaningfully improves our rotation or even bullpen with those numbers. Better than Colin Rea but not that much better. Yes, five more years of cost control and possible improvements, too. (Smith)
  10. I would also be open to a Rea pitching line similar to last week’s start against Kansas City. 5 IP, 6 H, 5 ER, 3 HR
  11. It will be interesting to see how much the players union will budge to help the 95% of players that don’t get the bigger free agent deals. Juan Soto deserves to get paid what someone’s willing to pay him. At the same time, there are thousands of professional players that will never get to $1 M salaries.
  12. Does the Tigers #17 and Brewers #24 ranked payrolls affect our judgement about salary cap necessity? I don’t blame the players for rejecting a salary cap. Especially if owners won’t implement a ‘profit cap’ on how much LA or NY or even Pittsburgh can profit each season.
  13. These are my memories, too. Especially 2024.
  14. There is not much evidence to support the idea that players will accept a salary cap: https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/45842533/sources-phillies-bryce-harper-tells-mlb-boss-get-clubhouse
  15. Cubs are 15-6 when Rea pitches (starter or relief). Rea is 0.1 WAR this year. Rea has been allowing walks in July and gave up 3 HR in his last start versus Royals. I am curious how the Brewers fare tonight.
