  1. So Prielipp, Tidwell, Campbell on the mound, Graham on the infield and a whole bunch of outfielders left with three picks to go.
  2. I kind of figured that the Braves were stringing Collier with the extra pick they traded for providing the money, but I guess not. We'll see if it is Porter instead or if they just wanted another pick.
  3. I wonder how many fiscal hoops a team that would pick Collier or Porter here would have to jump through, let alone by the time the Brewers' pick rolls around.
  4. I will probably end up being wrong, but with Horton, Rocker and Hughes off the board, it is feeling like a college bat is increasingly likely.
  5. It is tough to tell with all the things that go into the MLB draft, but I wonder if teams are more skeptical about Parada’s ability to stick at catcher than the list makers.
  6. Am I remembering incorrectly, or did one of the sets of complex league squads face each other every Saturday last season? I thought maybe it was the DSL.
  7. I'm very much a BPA guy in round one. If you build up a depth of prospects at one position, well, trades happen. Even if you pick an outfielder first it's not saying you couldn't draft three or four pitchers and a corner infielder and/or catcher with the rest of your picks in the first five rounds. Once you get later then organizational depth chart affects things. Like unless there is still somehow someone on the board they REALLY like, I doubt you see any college infielders or outfielders taken in rounds 11-20 simply because the organizational opportunity won't necessarily be there.
  8. My random predictions, ranges generally gotten from MLB pipeline rankings 1. Gabriel Hughes, pitcher, Gonzaga: Feels like it is going to be a college pitcher or outfielder judging by who is projected to go in this range. Hughes is as good of a guess as any. 2. Jacob Misiorowski, pitcher, Crowder JC: I've seen him ranked all over the board, so who knows if he is here, but the Brewers like JUCO pitching, and he is an Antoine Kelly-type upside play. CB2: Max Wagner, 3B, Clemson: Doesn't fit the Brewers' up the middle tendency, but Milwaukee has been willing to gamble with college guys with smaller than ideal track records (although it is usually because of injury) 3. Dominic Keegan, will be announced as a catcher, Vanderbilt: I had to give the Brewers the annual won't actually stick at catcher guy, and he is the only one I came across in a reasonable range. 4. Kenya Huggins, pitcher, Chipola JC: Another JUCO pitcher, another upside play 5. Quinn Matthews, pitcher, Stanford: Lefty whose best pitch is a changeup. Sounds like a Brewers pick.
  9. I enjoy statistics. Last year the Brewers had five minor league players who had a strikeout rate of 15% or lower, a walk rate of 10% or higher and an ISO of .1: Sal Frelick, Felix Valerio, Jeferson Quero, Hendry Mendez and Jackson Chourio. Not a bad group. This year they have no one, although Pablo Reyes is actually really close at triple-A, and Tyler Black just needs to cut the strikeout rate a little to qualify as well. If you discount his two-week injury fill-in stint in Wisconsin, however, Jadher Areinamo clears each category easily. I haven't heard enough scouting about him to have any idea what his ultimate upside is, but he is doing things legitimate prospects do with the bat. Also, nice to see two guys I still consider among the most interesting arms on the ACL squads had a nice night. Aquino has probably the best peripherals of any of their ACL starters and Herrera is still the second youngest pitcher on the team after skipping the DSL last season.
  10. I guess it depends on the price tag. Prep pitching in the first round always carries a risk, but you accept it for the right player. Now if he has such a ridiculous bonus demand that it means having to go senior sign with one of your second rounders it gets significantly less appealing.
  11. I kind of thought before the season that the Brewers needed three of the youngsters to emerge from that Carolina rotation, and in Rodriguez, Puello and Cruz (even if he wasn't on the initial staff) it seems like they got it. Now if only Cornielle begins to develop more consistency, he could easily make it four.
  12. Yep. Got distracted while posting. OBP. It would never actually happen at the big league level, but hypothetically I wonder if a team would play a guy who reaches base half the time but provides no power and rarely even puts the ball in play. I have a minor fascination with statistical oddities in sports, and while he doesn't have enough plate appearances to make this appear to be sustainable even at the complex league level, it caught my eye.
  13. It depends on what they decide to do with Severino. If he gets traded or released, they might still view Jackson as their No. 3 catcher given Feliciano's defense. Or they might already have enough confidence in Reetz from his double-A stint to move him into that role. Who knows.
  14. Rookie leagues tend to generate weird stat lines, but Jhonnys Cabrera’s takes the cake. The guy has two singles in 29 plate appearances as his only hits but his OPS is better than .600 because he walks so much that if he reaches in his next at bat his OPS will be .500.
  15. Good for him. It is going to be interesting to see how they distribute the at-bats once Alex Jackson is back. I imagine he might inherit some of Dahl’s outfield at-bats too.
  16. I was talking about next season and him being in the mix for a backup infielder spot in Carolina. The Brewers were hitting him mostly toward the top of the lineup before Mitchell’s rehab stint started, so it seems there is something there they like.
  17. Seeing the two homers by Perez, the Brewers are going to have some interesting decisions to make in the Carolina infield next season, especially given I'm guessing there is at least one repeat. Areinamo, Guilarte, Parra and Caballero all have OPSs over .800, Perez is up there, Jaraba and Barrios are starting to hit and had higher signing price tags. Low might be in Carolina in a dual role. Even a few of the other guys have at least shown flashes. And that isn't even considering the possibility that someone is added to the mix in the draft.
  18. I'm also beginning to think Jadher Areinamo might deserve more prospect hype than he gets.
  19. Don't want to jinx it with one inning left, but there is a decided chance that the three Brewers complex league games finish with their pitcher giving up just one walk in each game. That is what you want to see.
  20. Should be: Jakson Reetz, Brandon Knarr Would be Jackson Chourio, Antoine Kelly.
  21. I don’t disagree with the roster makeup of AAA. I am saying that there are a lot of guys on the AA rosters who aren’t going to be good enough to ever become AAAA guys.
  22. Really disagree with this. It only works if you just look at the top prospects. If you're a hitter, there might not be much difference when you are facing a AA or AAA team's No. 1 starter or closer, but when you're facing the No. 3? Likely a pretty big difference. And the No. 5? Likely really big. Same with the bullpen. There are a lot of struggling middle relievers in AA. You know what most AAA middle relievers have in common? They were good enough in AA to get promoted.
  23. Between this and the fact that they are one of only three franchises with two ACL teams, records are kind of misleading for this bunch. While the catchers haven't been hitting much, it wouldn't be difficult to construct an absurdly productive lineup at the rest of the spots from between the two teams.
