  1. The thing to keep in mind with Merrill is that the Padres locked him up for 10 years at $156M through 2035. He's relatively cheap these next few years at $2M in '26, $7M in '27, $9M in '28 and $11M in '29 but then the annual salary goes up to $21M per year for the next six years after that. It'll still be a bargain for him for those first few years at least - assuming of course he continues to build off of what he's done as a big leaguer these first couple of years. But....with us already locking up Chourio through '33 and with my assumption that we MAY also look to do the same with Made at some point over the next year or two - I'm wondering if we'd be even interested in taking on another long term contract like Merrill's.....and that of course is making a HUGE assumption that the Padres would even consider moving on from him already, which is HIGHLY unlikely.
  2. Yeah, the more and more I look at the Padres farm system, it's just really hard to figure out how a trade would come together between these two teams? If the Brewers were the Rays, I think a deal could definitely get done since the Rays value getting younger, higher ceiling/lower floor type guys back in trades. But, since we're in a "win now" mode and want MLB ready pieces, it's tough to figure out how this would work. Like others have said, I guess you could go with a package like Vazquez, Schoolcraft/Mayfield and either Mendez/Rodriguez? I guess I wouldn't hate a package like that coming back, but I really don't love Vazquez's lack of a K rate and in this scenario I think you'd have to feel good that either Mendez or Rodriguez could stay as SP's and aren't going to end up in the pen. Getting either Schoolcraft or Mayfield would be the lotto ticket in this package and you'd be adding them into the next "wave" of pitching prospects alongside guys like Letson, Dorchies, etc. that would be 3-4 years away.
  3. Does this guy have any credibility to know what he’s talking about here? https://x.com/hgomez27/status/2011276162727887064?s=46&t=83zVtbZ6qN5Qh6uJB35lLA
  4. Just Baseball guys threw out trade proposals for the five teams that we know have expressed interest in Freddy. Curious to get thoughts on which of these packages people would prefer? https://www.justbaseball.com/mlb/five-best-freddy-peralta-mock-trades-milwaukee-brewers/
  5. Do we think the Yanks getting Weathers takes them out on Freddy now? They’re getting Cole and Rodon back as season goes on, so you could make a real case that they may not need Freddy now.
  6. The Just Baseball pod suggested the following return from Yankees: Gil Lagrange Jones Strictly from a value standpoint, I think this feels like a very solid package. Two top 100 prospects in Lagrange and Jones…and then the 2024 ROY in Gil. I know Gil is coming off of a Lat strain last year, so that might be a bit of a concern and of course Jones is one of the most polarizing prospects in all of baseball so we’d have to feel good that we could work with him on his swing so that he could lower his K rate moving forward. Curious for thoughts on this package.
  7. If a Beavers/Mayo/Povich package were realistic it would have already been done. No chance the O's are giving up that much for 1 year of Freddy. We might be able to get Mayo/Povich and their Comp pick, but there's no way they'd be giving up all three of those guys. And I'm not sure if I'm in love with a Mayo/Povich package as I think there's still a lot of risk involved with both of those guys at the MLB level.
  8. Dodgers: Freddy for Jackson Ferris and Mike Sirota Braves: Freddy for AJ Smith Schawver and JR Ritchie Mets: Tong/Sproat and Clifford Red Sox: Early and Justin Gonzales
  9. Freddy to NYY for Elmer Rodriguez and Ben Hess. Who says no to that?
  10. Guessing we’d have to throw in Megill and then potentially a Hardin and Adamczewski type (along with Freddy) to get a deal done for those two guys. I guess this would depend on what we think of Bello. I don’t know enough about the kids stuff to provide much feedback.
  11. Bucs signing O'Hearn for 2 years and $29M. Gotta give them a lot of credit this offseason. Not sure if these are moves that are going to work for them, but they are at least trying to put together a decent offense to go along with that young stable of stud SP's.
  12. I’m glad you’re not in the Brewers front office! 😉
  13. Megill, Pena, Letson and someone like Meccage. Guessing that’s the type of package it would take to get Duran.
  14. You’d probably have to replace Adams with Pena in that package…if you want a legit shot at getting Duran.
  15. It’s possible, but I think Arnold would be looking at guys much closer to big leagues, like Mayo, Beavers and Gibson. Rays got more prospects in the deal because they were ok getting guys further away from the big leagues.
  16. IMO, Rays had a very good day on the trade front. Received prospects Jacob Melton, Anderson Brito, Slater de Brun, Caden Bodine, Michael Forret, Austin Overn and a Comp A pick....for Brandon Lowe and Shane Baz going elsewhere. Gotta figure that Rays are gonna Rays here and turn at least three of these prospects into studs in 2-3 years.
  17. Get Beavers, Gibson and their Comp pick….and let’s get this deal done!
  18. Pretty much all the teams we already knew about. Hector isn’t really breaking any new updates here.
  19. Yeah, I’m guessing you’re probably right.
  20. I threw this out earlier this offseason, but curious as to who would say no to this trade: Brewers get Duran and Connelly Early Red Sox get Freddy and Megill wouldn't this deal make a ton of sense for both sides? Do Sox say no due to Freddy’s lack of team control? They would have a full year though to try to extend him if they wished.
  21. I honestly don't think that the Astros line up with us in terms of prospect capital. I think for a deal to get done with the Astros, we'd have to get a guy or two back in the deal that is already in the big leagues. Maybe a Cam Smith or an Isaac Paredes.....but I'm not sure why the Astros would want to include either of those guys back in a deal for 1-year of Freddy?
  22. I hear you on the Gibson concerns with his AAA performance at the end of this season, but FWIW - he has been showing up on some Top 100 prospect lists over the past 6 months - most notably Kiley McDaniel and Aram Leighton's list. So, he's pretty highly thought of and is a guy that should be ready to contribute at the MLB level at some point this upcoming season (which we know the Brewers like when making these trades). I think we could do A LOT worse than a Mayo/Beavers, Gibson and Comp pick package.
  23. I doubt we're getting both Mayo and Beavers in a deal for Freddy. At least that would be my guess. As @SF70 noted in his reply - I think I'd absolutely pull the trigger though on a Mayo/Beavers, Gibson and Comp Pick package coming back for Freddy. That then leads me to my next question: who does everyone here value more - Mayo or Beavers? Has the shine completely come off of Mayo? I did see that he finished his season in the big leagues pretty strong, so maybe he just needed to settle in a bit during his first 150-200 PA's at the MLB level before he started to figure some things out? Feels like Mayo is a guy who could have a coming out party this year with an everyday spot....no?
  24. If I'm Arnold and I'm talking to the O's about Freddy, I think I'm demanding that they give me Mayo and Trey Gibson back in return.
