  1. Yeah, I think Woody's health concerns/unknowns played a HUGE role in him accepting the QO with us. Sonny Gray has been the beacon of health over his MLB career, so I'm sure Boston was much more willing to give a guy like that $20M next year than they would have been to throw $20+M at a guy like Woody for multiple years that is still coming back from a pretty major shoulder repair.
  2. On the surface, I would definitely agree with you. Corbin Burnes was unarguably a better pitcher than Freddy is at this same stage of them hitting the 1-year from FA point in the careers. However, I do think that Freddy being significantly cheaper than Corbin could equal things out considerably. The other somewhat unknown here is the market demand for SP's this winter compared to the winter that we ended up trading Corbin. The Red Sox having to give up both Fitts and Clarke for one year of a 36 yr old Sonny Gray (making well over double what Freddy is owed next year) gives me some hope that we could make out pretty good if there is a team out there that really wants Fred. Takes two to tango though as we know, so I guess we'll see if anything plays out in the coming weeks/months.
  3. I think the only one of those four guys that you could trade Tyler Black straight up for would be Peraza, and I've got no interest in getting that guy in a trade. The other three....not happening (at least not at this moment in time).
  4. If 36 yr old Sonny Gray at $20M next year is returning Fitts and Clarke to the Cards, then I'd have to figure that 29 yr old Freddy Peralta at just $8M next year would be worth Connelly Early and Luis Perales.....which I'm guessing Arnold would pull that trigger in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, I would assume that getting Gray will take the Sox out of the Freddy Peralta sweepstakes now.
  5. My initial reaction after digging deeper into these trade packages (If I'm Matt Arnold): Atlanta - simply saying no to the Braves Boston - I'm good with Tolle being the centerpiece, but I'm probably demanding either Witherspoon or Clarke as the second prospect coming back in the package. Mets - Again....I like Sproat as centerpiece, but would demand Clifford instead of Acuna as second piece. Yankees - Similarly, I think I'd be OK with Warren in the deal, but give me either Elmer Rodriguez or Lagrange as second piece San Fran - like Atlanta, I'm probably just saying no to the Giants as well. Don't like much in their system. I fully realize that the Red Sox, Mets and Yankees might quickly say no to my demands, but maybe if you pit these teams against each other, one of them will eventually fold and give in to your demands? Worst case scenario - we have Freddy for another year and he helps make us a better team in '26....and I'm OK with that.
  6. Not sure if it's OK to post this from The Athletic (since it's behind a paywall), but Bowden (Yeah, I know....) just posted a story today with his top 5 trade proposals that he feels could get done in a Freddy Peralta trade (focusing in on MLB ready SP and up-the-middle prospects for the Brewers in return): Atlanta: JR Ritchie and Alex Lodise Boston: Payton Tolle and Anthony Eyanson Mets: Brandon Sproat and Luisangel Acuna Yankees: Will Warren and Jose Caballero San Fran: Landen Roupp and Jhonny Level Curious to get everyone's feedback on these proposals by Bowden, as I haven't done a deep-dive yet on any of them. Any of these stick out to you as good proposals? Any of them you would definitely stay away from if you were Matt Arnold? Would we need to ask for more in any of these packages that might get them across the finish line? Let's hear it!
  7. Yeah, no chance we're getting Benge. As you mentioned, he seems to becoming a clear-cut Top 20 prospect in the game and he might just be the Mets opening day CF next year. We can cross him off of any potential package the Mets would entertain for 1-year of Freddy.
  8. I definitely like the creativity here with suggesting the Dodgers, but as you pretty much acknowledged in your post - the Dodgers just really don't have a need for Freddy, and even if they did - they are way too smart to give up both Sheehan and Freeland for one-year of Fred.
  9. Yeah, I did see that after I posted this. Never has the obmission of the word "OR" meant so much! Certainly is a much more realistic trade proposal if it's Sproat OR Tong and not both.
  10. Pratt would obviously be the centerpiece going back to the Twins and I don't hate the idea of that (as long as the Twins value him). However, I'm inclined to think that the other three guys you included in the package have little to no trade value. DL certainly has a little potential yet, but the clock is really ticking for him at this point, and is he really anything more than a reliever (if even that with the velo decrease)? CRod....AAAA starting pitcher. And Collins....while a great story for about three months this summer is a guy that most teams aren't going to value much in a trade this winter as I'm sure they're very skeptical (as we would be too) on whether or not what he did those few months is actually sustainable moving forward. I know some will vehemently disagree with me on this, but I think it would take a package of something like Pratt, Gasser and maybe you throw in someone like Mitchell as a high ceiling/low floor guy?
  11. Since I've seen Joe Ryan's name mentioned a few times in this thread, what do people think it would take to get both him and Buxton in a deal? Personally, I think it would look something like this: Brewers get: Buxton and Ryan Twins get: Pena or Pratt (Twins choice), Henderson or Gasser (Twins choice), Dinges and then a lower-level high upside guy like Meccage or Dorchies
  12. Man I wish Jim Duquette was still a GM…..and was running the NY Mets! https://x.com/metcastpod/status/1988802658115989506?s=46&t=83zVtbZ6qN5Qh6uJB35lLA
  13. I'm 100% with you on this Brock. If Buxton is in fact traded this offseason (probably not to the Brewers), I think there are quite a few people on this board that will be a bit surprised at the prospect value going back.
  14. I absolutely agree that I'd go all-in on Buxton if he truly is open to a trade. He's exactly the type of impact bat that this lineup is really missing - assuming of course that you could keep him healthy!
  15. Valid point....but I still think it would take much more to get Buxton if he is now open to a trade.
  16. If that's all it took to get a guy like Buxton on the Brewers, I've got to imagine that Arnold would have already made that deal (along with about 15-20 other MLB teams). Something tells me that it'll take quite a bit more than that package.
  17. Would a package of Pena, Henderson, Adamczewski and Mitchell be enough to get the Twins to consider? I've got to think the Made is untouchable, and with Buxton's injury history - there's simply no way I'm including him in this deal.
  18. What do we think would be a fair trade package to offer for Buxton? He's such an interesting case, because when he's been healthy he's been fantastic. But, staying healthy has just been so difficult for him.
  19. I had slightly advocated for a "crazy" Abrams trade with Washinton this past summer when we clearly needed an upgrade at SS, but with us being that much closer now to guys like Pratt and Made knocking on the door - I'm guessing we're not going to want to block both the 2B and SS positions with Abrams and Turang. I think we just run-it-back with Joey this year and hope that he returns back to more of his '24 version at the plate, instead of the guy we saw this year.
  20. I'm assuming this is a joke?
  21. Agreed on the age situation. We're already paying for an aging Yeli, so I doubt Arnold and Co. would want to add another aging/expensive player into the mix as well.
  22. Yeah, if he's got that much value - then AZ probably doesn't have to kick in any salary to get a good return. My guess is that we won't be a player in this market for Marte, but he'd certainly be a fun bat to add to the lineup.
  23. I wonder what he would cost us in terms of prospect capital? We're talking about a guy who's 32 and still owed $90M over the next five years. I wonder if AZ would be willing to eat some of this salary for us to increase the prospect package going back in return?
  24. I see that Nightengale is reporting that the Dbacks are motivated to move on from Marte this winter. If you were Arnold, is this something you'd at least kick the tires on? Looks like he's still owed $91M over the next five years. I know there were some clubhouse issues with him this past year though, so you'd have to take that into consideration as well (although admittedly I have no idea what those issues really were?).
  25. Figured someone might as well post this crazy trade idea here: Insane Trade Idea Has Nationals Sending James Wood to Brewers This Offseason Obviously, the odds of a deal for James Wood this winter are extremely low, but since this is "hot stove" season with a bunch of crazy, stupid ideas floating out there, let's take a deeper dive into this trade idea. Personally, I think it would take A LOT more to get Wood away from the Nats with what I believe is 5 years left of team control. It took basically three Top 100 guys (can't remember if Monte Harrison had cracked the top 100 yet after his AFL performance of '17?) and another solid pitching prospect to get Yeli from the Marlins with less years of team control, so I don't think a package of just Pratt and Pena gets this done. I would guess that we'd have to offer up Pena, Pratt, Henderson and then perhaps someone like Crow or a DeBerry type to even get the Nats considering moving Wood at this stage of his young career. Curious for other people's thoughts on this crazy trade idea though?
