  1. I don't think a package of Ray, Peralta and Lutz gets it done for Kluber (assuming that is who you are talking about). I'm guessing you'd have to go Hiura, Woodruff and Lutz, or a package of Burnes, Ray and Zack Brown. Boy, in that scenario - you'd be taking on at least 15M a year (for at least three years) with Keuchel and over 17M a year for the next three years with Kluber. That's at least 32M we'd be adding to our payroll. It's fun to dream about, but I just can't see a small franchise like the Brewers being able to take on that salary. It would no doubt make us the favorites in the National League heading into 2019 though.
  2. Yeah, I'm of the opinion now that we are definitely more in play to add another SP, rather than going after any of these remaining 2B options (which are quite limited anyway now). I think DS and Counsell are fine going with a HP/Spang platoon until Keston is ready to come up and contribute (which should happen at some point this summer, barring an injury). I'm not sure if we'll end up winning the Keuchel sweepstakes, but if we do - I'm guessing we'll go out and re-sign Miley. To me, that seems like the likely play at this point.

  4. I see that the "BucksBrett" guy on twitter (the guy who apparently was the first to break the Moose deal and the particulars last summer), is also now saying that the Brewers have a 3 year deal on the table for Keuchel and is one of the finalists. I have no idea how legit that guy is though, or if he just steals stuff from other sources and tweets it out as if he has his own source in the organization?
  5. Wasn't it the Thursday night before On Deck that the Yelich/Cain moves happened last year? So, I think DS would have to get something done this evening if a big move were to happen with said player making it to Milwaukee in time for the On Deck event. I'm very doubtful that this occurs this year. I think Grandal was our big offseason move.
  6. Yeah, shocked at how cheaply they got him for a 1 year deal. What's the reason for this? Are teams just gun shy with relievers this winter after getting burned last winter by all of those relief pitcher signings? at 1 yr, 3M - I'm a bit upset that we didn't get involved with that. I know we might be set out there, but you can never have enough good arms in the pen.
  7. I would imagine it'll be called American Family Field, that fans will eventually just start calling Am Fam Field. Not terrible, but I agree - Miller Park just made so much sense that this just seems wrong. One of the biggest US breweries HQ'd just down the street with naming rights of the MLB baseball team in the state that just happens to be nicknamed the "Brewers." I mean, has there ever been a more obvious naming rights sponsor? Will be interesting to see how many people just refuse to call it by it's new name after 2020 and continue to call in Miller Park? Also, do people really think we'll ditch the current logo? I guess I never really thought we had that logo just because Miller was the naming rights sponsor of the stadium that we play in? I'd love it though if the trade off is that we get to go back to the ball and glove look as our primary logo/uni.
  8. Yeah, I saw some Brewers bloggers retweeting this, which caught my attention for a second. BUT, there's just no way that this makes sense, right? Even if the Dbacks kicked in 35M, that would still be like us adding ZG for what would amount to a 3 year, 70M deal. No way we are throwing that type of money at a 35 year old pitcher. I'm calling BS on this tweet.

  10. I thought I read that with the signing of Ottavino that they will now need to cut someone to keep their 40 man roster at 40? Now, I suppose they might have someone else that they could cut if they can't find what they are looking for in a trade for Gray, but it seemed as if the Ottavino signing was now pushing them to make a decision on Gray?
  11. Can someone explain to me why Cashman came out right at the beginning of the offseason and basically outright said that they were going to move on from Sonny and trade him? What negotiating advantage does that give them? Why not just keep that information to yourselves, and try to keep some of your negotiating power with other teams? Yes, it may still leak out anyway that you are looking to move him, but it just seemed very odd that Cashman took the route of spilling the beans from the outset that they had every intention of moving him this winter. Now watch - I'm sure some desperate team will still give them a top prospect for him.
  12. With their signing of Ottavino today, it's going to happen - they have no room on their 40 man until Gray is traded away. Because of that, it wouldn't surprise me if Gray is dealt for the prospect equivalent of a bag of baseballs provided the team he's headed to is ok with picking up all of his salary. There may be a bunch of teams sort of kicking the tires on acquiring him, but I'd doubt the bidding war gets into the discussion of anything close to a top 100 prospect headed back to the Yankees - Cashman is over a barrel on this one. Well, sounds like the Giants might be making a strong push for him. Their new GM talked about wanting to compete in 2019 (seems pretty stupid to me), so I guess a move like this would fit with what he mentioned in that interview last week. I'll be very curious to see what the Yankees get in return for him.
  13. Yeah, I just don't see any way that this situation ends up with Gray becoming a Brewer. Some other team is going to overpay the Yankees for him, and I think DS is way too smart to do that for the one year that you'd have left with Sonny on your roster. Personally, I've thought all winter long that a Gray/Thames swap makes a lot of sense for both teams, but I'm guessing the Yankees think they deserve someone's Top 100 prospect in return for Gray.
  14. How about we re-sign Moose to a 1-year deal (if he can't get a multi-year deal from another team), and then we use Shaw over at 2B and 1B this year - or until Hiura is ready to come up and take over 2B. Then, trade Thames in a package to the Yankees for Sonny Gray - or another team that has a SP that might be attractive to us? If Aggie struggles in the 1st half this year, we'd then have a solid backup plan in Shaw to cover that position - or at least platoon with Aggie. Shaw could also get plenty of games over at 2B as well - especially if Hiura isn't quite ready for his call-up next year. This could be a 1-year solution, and then we could always move Shaw back to 3B in 2020.

  16. I've seen some speculation (especially after the Grandal signing) that it would make sense for us to now consider a trade of Thames and Chase Anderson. Actually, I'm sure there has been plenty of talk about this even before the Grandal signing, but we might need to free up some salary space now that we've added the 16M to our payroll for 2019. So, what teams do we think would make the sense to work out a deal for Thames and Chase? And, what could we realistically expect back in return for them? Would we simply look at getting young, lottery ticket prospects back in return for these guys so that we can replenish the lower end of our farm system again after some of the recent trades? And, if we were to trade both of these guys and save around 12M with our '19 payroll, do you think we'd then have room again to go out and add more $$ with either an upgrade at 2B or a LH starting pitcher?
  17. Yeah, I guess that's why I'm wondering if the market isn't as strong for him as he and his camp had hoped it would be this winter? Then again, the Phillies and their "stupid money" might just be holding off until they throw even more "stupid money" at Harper first before they offer the same to someone like Keuchel? Maybe that's the reason why we haven't heard much on him this winter? Both sides might realize that the Phillies are the only team willing to give him the type of money that he wants, and they are just prioritizing Harper first?

  20. Ahh - OK. I guess I didn't realize that Keuchel was a Boras client. Still though - if the market isn't materializing like Boras hoped it would for his client this winter, then maybe it opens up the opportunity for other teams (like the Brewers) to get involved. Probably a huge long shot, I know. I'm just more interested in why there hasn't been more discussion about him yet? Is it just simply that the Phillies are still his likely landing spot and they want to focus on signing Harper first, before moving down their list to Keuchel?
  21. Have I missed something, or has there just been very little talk about this guy nationally in the F/A market this winter? I'm not necessarily advocating for the Brewers signing him, but would it shock anyone if DS pulls off a surprise signing of Keuchel if his contract demands come down a bit as this month rolls along? We have a dearth of LHP in our rotation candidates right now, so it would make perfect sense for us to go out and try to get a lefty - and he could also be a TOR type arm that we are looking to fill out this staff. I know he's not a true ace, but he'd still be our top SP would really help us lengthen out the rotation. This would really bump up the payroll in 2018, so not sure if that's realistic at this stage. However, we could still trade away Chase Anderson and Eric Thames, which would allow us to save about 12M in whatever we'd have to give Keuchel this year. Thoughts? Am I completely off base in thinking that this could happen? I'm just really surprised that there hasn't been more chatter about Keuchel after Corbin signed with the Nats earlier this winter.
  22. I know that it seems that Harrison has been a "Brewer killer" all of his career, but I guess I don't look at his stats and think that he's the top guy that I'd want here on a 1 year deal to man 2B. What am I missing with him that others are intrigued by?
  23. You're really not interested in parting ways with Grisham? Can't imagine that kid would have much value at all at this point. I think I'd be fine with a Thames/Grisham package in exchange for Gray, but I'm guessing the Yankees would be looking for more.
  24. Sorry if this has already been discussed in another thread on this board, but is there a market at all out there for a guy like Eric Thames? Would any team out there even take his 6M salary off our hands, and give us a lottery ticket type prospect in return for him? Coming off of his injury riddled and disappointing season last year, I'm guessing there probably isn't much interest. But, we are talking about a LH power bat that hit 30+ bombs in 2017. Are the Yanks still in need of a 1B? I'd love to rid ourselves of his 6M and then use some of that money to bring in a guy like Lowrie. Then, you could play Lowrie at 2B until Hiura is ready (whether that's 2019 or 2020), and then Lowrie could platoon with Shaw at 3B when Keston comes up, while Shaw could also platoon a bit at 1B with Aguilar to keep his bat in the lineup against good RHP. So.....thoughts on Thames? Would any team have interest in him? Again, I realize we wouldn't get much in return, but I think I'd be OK with that if we could free up that money to use it in an area of need (like 2B).
  25. Yeah, let's face it. We have little to no shot landing this kid. Would love to get in on him, but these premier Asian players just are not going to look at a small market team in the middle part of the country like the Brewers. Just isn't going to happen. Add Boras to the mix, and it really, really isn't going to happen.
