  1. Yeah, let's face it. We have little to no shot landing this kid. Would love to get in on him, but these premier Asian players just are not going to look at a small market team in the middle part of the country like the Brewers. Just isn't going to happen. Add Boras to the mix, and it really, really isn't going to happen.

  3. I just don't see Stearns trading away much in value for a 1-year run with Mad Bum. Maybe he's somebody we would target at the deadline for a 3 month rental, when the price would hopefully go down a bit. But, if the Giants are asking for any of Burnes, Hiura or Woody in return - then I can't imagine we'd be interested.
  4. Is it just me, or does Morosi just seem to throw our name into some of these reports without much actual knowledge that we've really been involved? It's almost like he's thinking "hey, the Brewers need SP help and are looking to compete in 2019," so let's throw them into this tweet about an available SP - even though I have no idea if they are seriously involved in discussions with this team.
  5. Not sure if this really tells us anything? I'm guessing Stearns talks to just about every team with tradeable assets. Says nothing about how serious those talks really were. Morosi basically told us something that we pretty much already knew.
  6. Yikes, yeah he was really bad in that 3-year stretch, wasn't he. And, he's owed 27M over the next few years (with team options in '20 and '21). At that price, wouldn't we be better off just going out and getting one of the catchers in F/A and save our prospects? I'm not even sure what it would take to get Gomes in a trade, but I don't think I'd want to give up that much.
  7. Thanks for the feedback on W. Wilson. I certainly didn't think he'd ever reach that Top 100 prospect status, but it's good to know that he at least has the ability to potentially turn into a solid MLB utility guy if he continues to progress over the next couple of years here. At least an interesting guy to keep your eye on.
  8. Weston Wilson with a 2-5 game today with a triple and a home run. Now hitting a cool .364 and OPS of 1.098. I realize it is a small sample size, but also pretty impressive when that small sample size just happens to occur in the AZ Fall League. Sorry if he's already been discussed at length in this thread, but does this guy have any "prospect" status in him? I see that he just turned 24 a couple of months ago, so not a young kid by any stretch, but he's hit pretty well at every level thus far.
  9. I've wondered this same thing for many years now. You see all of these retail/hotel/entertainment developments that are going up around professional stadiums across america (Lambeau is a local example, and of course the Bucks are planning their own around FF). I've often wondered why Attanasio couldn't buy some of that land in the Menomonee Valley to build a big entertainment/hotel development there. You already have Potowattami down the road, and I just think it would make so much sense to turn much of that land into an entertainment district. With that said, I know much of it is developed now with businesses, so it's probably not happening at this point.
  10. Another good game for Olczak last night. 2 IP, 1H, 0R and 5K's. Is this a kid that we could expect being a contributor in the pen in the very near future? Continues to put up good numbers at every stop.
  11. I have no idea if this factored in at all, but I saw someone mention that David Bell and DJ would have crossed paths by at least one year with the Cubs back around 2012. I have no idea if they may have formed a good relationship during that time or not, but it could be possible that they did become close and perhaps DJ really wanted to go help out a friend and take on a new challenge? Just spit-balling like everyone else here, but something to at least consider? Then again, maybe it is just a money move - and we failed miserably here.

  13. If the market doesn't materialize for Donaldson as he hopes it would this winter, I do wonder if it Milwaukee might be an attractive team for him to consider on a 1 year deal? Work out an incentive laden deal for him, and maybe there even could be a mutual option for a 2nd year (just like the Royals gave Moose last winter). I'm guessing he'd have to like the idea of playing for a contending team next year where he can show off his skills and have other good bats around him in the lineup, and what hitter wouldn't like to have 1/2 of their games in hitter friendly Miller Park? With that said - I understand that he's probably going to be trying to get a 3-4 year deal this winter, but that may just not materialize if this winter is anything like last year. This type of move would also give us some flexibility to not have to rush Hiura next year - and maybe even gives us the ability to include him in blockbuster type deal for someone like Realmuto?
  14. Sorry if this was already mentioned in this post, but when do we need to decide whether or not we will be non-tendering Schoop or keeping him around? Is it soon?

  16. What type of deal will Eovaldi get this offseason? I know we were looking hard at him before the Sox beat us out at the deadline. I've got to imagine that he's made himself a little bit of money this year, right? Just seems like he'd be a perfect fit as an "out-getter" for the Brewers as one of those guys that could go through a lineup once or twice with a high level of success.
  17. I originally was anti Merrifield, but I've actually come around to the idea. Bring him in as the primary 2b until Hiura is ready then move him into a super sub role where he still gets ~500 PAs/year. I'm sick of Perez and the likes getting so many PAs. Hard to compete with the Dodgers and Cubs when they have significantly better super subs than the Brewers do. Obviously cost of acquisition is a concern with Merrifield, but he's the type of player I'd like the Brewers to add. Lower k rate. Solid on base skills. Good base runner. Solid defender at several positions. Yeah, he seems like the exact type of player that the Brewers could use in their lineup. I do worry though about the cost of acquisition as well, as it seems as if the Royals were asking for a lot for him this trade deadline, which probably forced teams away (thus making him off limits). With all of this said - if our front office thinks that Hiura is the "real deal" and will be ready to contribute at some point next year, then maybe a Whit deal doesn't make a lot of sense?
  18. Yeah, let's hope that DM stays away from a guy like Montgomery and doesn't bring him along to the NYM now. I could certainly see something like that happening though. On the flip side though - maybe this move allows us to swing a deGrom trade this winter? Hiura, Peralta, Zack Brown and Dubon for deGrom. C'mon Doug - you know you want to do it!
  19. I know we talked about Merrifield a ton around the trade deadline, but I still love the idea of adding that bat to our lineup for 2019 and beyond. But, what would it take to get him from the Royals? Since they are now just starting their rebuild, I'm guessing they are going to want younger prospects - and probably wouldn't have any interest in a guy like Domingo or Chase, right? Could we package someone like Chase with a Corey Ray (as someone else suggested) and then maybe throw in another high ceiling prospect like Lutz or Zack Brown? Is that too much or too little to entice the Royals? Or - do we think that the potential emergence of Hiura would make a deal like this off limits for Stearns, knowing that Keston could help as soon as next year already? I just think that we need to lengthen out this lineup more with guys that can make good contact with the baseball and less K's. Seems like a guy like Whit would allow us to put more consistent pressure on opposing pitchers.
  20. I asked this question as I am admittedly an Iowa Hawkeye grad and fan. In 2002, Iowa finished off an 11-1 season up in the Metrodome, and as you would expect we probably had 30K+ fans in attendance that day. At the end of the game, a bunch of Iowa fans started to rush the field, and before long there must have been 5,000+ fans on the field at the dome. They blew a siren trying to get the fans off the field, but it obviously didn't work. Eventually, some of the drunk Iowa college kids jumped up on the goal post and took it down. To this day, I have never seen an opposing teams fanbase rush the field after the game, nevertheless take down the home teams goal post after a win. While this was a college football game (where rushing the field still happens to this day), this also happened at a professional sports arena. There was security down on the field that day, but there was nothing they could do as hundreds of fans rushed the field afte rthe game ended. I know this doesn't happen at baseball stadiums anymore (like the 70's and 80's), but I really wonder what security could do about it if all of a sudden hundreds (or even thousands) of Brewer fans rushed the Miller Park field?

  22. Question: let's say the Brewers win game 6 or 7 at home against the Dodgers to clinch our 2nd World Series appearance. What's to stop the fans from hopping out onto the field and rushing the field like they did back in '82? Yeah, I know there is security down there, but if hundreds of fans started to run onto the field, could they really stop everyone? Would they really ticket everyone and cart them away to the police department? Especially in as big of a moment as that would be for Milwaukee Brewers history? Maybe this is a stupid question as it would probably never happen in today's landscape, but just thought I would pose the question after watching that video. I would say that it would be pretty sweet if Milwaukee fans rushed the field just like they did in '82 (of course if we are fortunate enough to win this series).
  23. Unfortunately they’ve done it for LCS games in the recent past in LA and San Francisco We'll see. LA is still a huge market, and I'm not convinced that Boston vs Houston is that much more "sexy" than LA vs Milwaukee. That argument would hold more water if it was Boston vs NY and Milwaukee vs Colorado in the CS or something similar, but that's not the situation. Good point. The LA market does carry a lot of weight, so that might be enough on it's own to get the later start times?
  24. I think the networks try to avoid weekday afternoon games during the League Championship Series. I think all the games in LA will be in the latest time slot for the day. (Tues and Wed games, Mon no ALCS game) Boy, that would be ideal if we can avoid the late afternoon game times next week in LA - at least for me from a work perspective.
  25. Do you really think they'd have the Brewer/Dodger games next week in the later time slot? Even though it would make more sense since the games are on the west coast out there, I'd have to think that the TV networks would want the "sexier" matchup on in primetime - thus the ALCS getting the better time slot there.
