  1. Perhaps I'm missing it in another thread, but can anyone provide a quick report on "prospects to watch" down in the DSL this summer? I know we have some big names in Fernandez and Garcia down there getting their starts, but what other names should we be keeping an eye on? I see that there is a Parra kid that is only 16 years old and putting up great numbers so far. Is this legit with him? Thanks in advance.
  2. Extend Moose, then move Shaw to 1B (played there pretty well at times late last year). We'd still need to figure out what we are going to do long term at the catcher position beyond this year - at least until either Henry/Feliciano are ready.
  3. Yes Please! Boy, I'd hate to give up on Burnes, as I still think there is so much potential there, but we need a guy like Bauer that can lead the rotation for a year and a half and give us a couple of opportunities for a title. It's really unfortunate that Zack Brown isn't having a good year, because it would have been great to put together a package of Brown, Turang, Ashby - which might have helped us hold onto Burnes.

  5. Ha ha! I love this offer! Hell, they are probably getting a better catching prospect in Nottingham than what we ended up getting in Susac!
  6. Is Dubon/Brown enough to get the Giants to trade Will Smith to us this month, instead of waiting until the end of July? Probably not, right? I'm sure I'm speaking more out of frustrating right now after the Kimbrel news last night, but I'd love for us to counteract the Cubs move with one of our own here over the next week or so. I'm guessing we'd have to give up more though for Will Smith to get the Giants to move him now instead of waiting another month and a half.
  7. OK - with the Cubs getting Kimbrel last night, I think we need to go out and make a serious run at bringing back Will Smith. So, what would it take to get a deal done - sooner rather than waiting until the end of July? Guerra is starting to come back down to earth now, and we still don't know what we have in Burnes back there - not to mention JJ is simply not the same guy that we had for much of the regular season last year. Pairing Smith with Hader in the back end could be huge for this team, and we know the Giants are open for business already. Smith is a 3-4 month rental, but he's also probably going to be one of the biggest relief arms out on the market this summer. So, what would it take to get him right now? Would a Dubon, Zack Brown package get the discussion going? Is that too much for a guy like Smith, or too little?
  8. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the chances pretty much zilch that Callihan would sign as a 4th round pick? If so, why are you hoping we take him in that spot. Seems likely that it would be a wasted pick.
  9. Couple of questions this morning: When does day 2 of the draft begin? I know we don't pick for awhile, but are there some names that we should be keeping an eye on for our next pick at #133? We've done well in recent years with some of these round 3-10 picks, so I'm hoping we might find some more gems on day 2 here today.
  10. Do we know what his velocity was like last night? Is that the biggest concern left for him (outside of just building up more stamina so that he can go deeper into games)?
  11. You would have to think that age would eventually catch up with either Lester or Hamels this year, wouldn't you? Both are 35, and you would hope for some regression as the year goes on - especially with the amount of mileage on both of those arms. Right? I guess I'm hoping that's the case, because they definitely do not appear to have much starting pitching depth - outside of Chatwood and Montgomery. What scares me the most with the Cubs though is with their offense. Bryant appears to be returing to form now and guys like Contreras and Heyward are having bounce back years. If that lineup hits up to their potential, there just aren't any easy outs 1-8. Their pen has had some issues closing games, but I'm guessing Morrow will be back at some point, right? And, sounds like Strop is due back soon from the IL. As much as I hate to say it, I think they are still the team to beat in the division, but I do think it'll probably go down to that final week again this year. Of course, all of this could change depending on what teams do at the trade deadline.
  12. After reading up on Seth Johnson, he really does seem to be a great match with the Brewers drafting philosophy in recent years. Taking some chances on some high risk/high reward type guys (Hiura - injury, Turang - performance dipped, Rasmussen - injury, Kirby - injury, etc.). Johnson seems to be another one of those guys that other teams might pass on because there are too many question marks with him. But, if he figures things out - he could become a big time steal of a pick. I'd sign up for a guy like that in the 28th spot of the 1st round. Speaking of high reward/high risk - are there other names in that category that we should look out for in this draft? Is there another Drew Rasmussen type guy that we can take a flyer on in rounds 5-10 that would have gone much higher if not for injury? I really like the idea of taking some risks with some of these draft picks - as the entire MLB draft is pretty much a crap shoot to begin with.
  13. I saw someone mentioned Dubon in the "Giants relievers" thread as a trade piece in a trade for Will Smith. Personally, I think that seems a bit steep to be giving up one of our top prospects for a reliever rental - but maybe I'm wrong? If I'm not wrong though - what type of player could we use Dubon this summer to go get that would help us in the 2nd half? With Dubon blocked by Arcia and Hiura, he would seem to be a great trade piece for us - but I'm curious what type of value he would have in a trade?
  14. I for one am a bit surprised with this move. I thought for sure that they would take their time with Freddy and have him pitch 3-4 turns through the rotation down in the minor leagues. Outside of the one start in Cincinnati, he just did not look very good - and as others have already pointed out - our rotation has at least seemed OK since Freddy went to the DL and Burnes got sent down. This seems like a major risk to now bring Freddy back up right away and potentially throw things off again. I'm assuming Chase is going to be the odd man out here, and I really don't agree with that move. I think he's pitched well in his two starts thus far, and deserves a chance to at least make a few more to see if we can rekindle some of that 2017 Chase.
  15. Is it safe to say that the Brewers are out of any Keuchel conversations now that they went out and picked up Gio? Guessing that's probably the case, but just curious what others think. Seems like we have a lot of SP candidates right now in Chacin, Davies, Woody, Burnes, Freddy, Chase, Gio, Jimmy (hopefully soon). Now, we just need most of these guys to step up their game and starting pitching well.
  16. No way we get in on 3 years for Kimbrel, do we? I don't know - it just doesn't seem like a David Stearns type move. I could see us interested in a 1 year deal, but I just don't see us throwing out some 3 yr, 55M+ type deal for a reliever.
  17. So, when do we think something is going to happen with Keuchel and Kimbrel? I'm just personally shocked that we are sitting here on 4/18 and both of these guys remain unsigned. I still have this gut feeling that we are eventually going to land one of these two guys, but I really have no basis for that opinion. When will the dominoes fall here though? Are other teams going to wait until after the draft to make a serious offer, so that they don't give up a pick? Does Stearns care that much about our 4th draft pick to hold back on adding one of these two guys? Will we go multiple years for one of these guys, or are we simply in the 1-yr market? Again - just crazy that both of these guys are still out on the market.
  18. OK....someone needs to slow down my hype train right now with Rasmussen, because I feel like I'm already starting to view him as one of our Top 2-3 prospects, and perhaps a Top 100 guy overall by the time mid-season adjustments are made. What am I missing here? Does he have the arsenal to be a big league starting pitcher, or is he pegged as more of a reliever? 98 on the gun today with his FB? And 90 on the slider.....wow!
  19. The crazy thing with all of this is - have there been any substantive reports on which teams might be in on Keuchel? I know there was that Braves blogger guy 3-4 weeks who came out and said that the Braves and Brewers were two teams in, but I don't think we've heard anything more credible than that, have we? Are the Phillies waiting to get a deal done with Harper before they turn their attention to Keuchel/Kimbrel, or what's the market for Keuchel right now? I just find it very odd that we are getting close to March now, and there's hardly been any rumors out there on teams potentially interested in this guy.
  20. I know it is WAY too early to speculate on this, but who do we think would be the top candidates to be available at the deadline this year? I'll start with some of the names that have already been thrown out here in recent months: Mad Bum Michael Fulmer Marcus Stroman Again - we have no idea at this stage if we'll even be in contention come the end of July, nevertheless who all of the sellers will be at this stage. But, just looking at those teams that we can feel pretty confident will have losing seasons this year - are there any other SP's that could be worth keeping our eye on during the 1st half of this season?
  21. Yeah, I guess I'm OK with American Family Field - and I'm sure we'll all shorten it to Am Fam Field. Not nearly in the same ballpark (excuse the pun) as Miller Park, but at least it's not terrible. And I'm sure we all can agree that it's nowhere near as bad as Guaranteed Rate Field.
  23. Arrieta was fine last year. I think Keuchel is closer to that level then he is Cobb or Lynn. And I readily admit that I was one of the biggest supporters of signing Cobb last year. I still think he would have been a good sign, and likely much better playing for the Brewers than for the horrible Orioles. While Arrieta was OK last year, he still put up the worst season he's had as a pro since 2013 - when he was still with the Orioles. Now, maybe that just had more to do with him getting older than it did with him signing late into ST - but I still think you at least need to take that into consideration when evaluating his season last year. Hopefully Keuchel is doing everything he can to keep things on schedule as if he were in a camp right now, so that he's ready to hit the ground running when he does sign - with whatever that team might be.
  24. With what happened to all of those pitchers that signed late into ST last year, you would think that Keuchel would need to sign really soon here - or risk having his value go down even further. With every passing day now, he's going to fall further and further behind schedule now that P's and C's have reported to camp. Is he just waiting it out until Harper and MM sign somewhere to see if he can get more money if teams lose out on one of those two guys and throw more money at him?
  25. I would love to be able to grab Fulmer on the cheap, and hope for a rebound. That stuff, when right, is legit. Stroman also has a ton of talent, but a rough injury history lately. I'm guessing that none of those teams are that interested in trading those guys right now when their value is probably at its low point. I'm sure they are all hoping for great first half performances from those guys though, so that they can get a ton for them at the deadline.
