  1. The 8 K's in 2.2 IP of relief is both ridiculous and historic. But, I think even more impressive might be that very first K he got against Votto. I'm not sure if I've ever seen Joey Votto look as clueless and helpless as he did in that 3 pitch AB. Just straight filthy!
  2. I am not convinced a hamstring will be a full 60 days. The MRI will be key on the grade of injury. I'm not a doctor, but I'm guessing a torn hamstring could keep Knebel out the remainder of the season. This looked much, much worse than a guy limping off the field with a hamstring strain. Sounded like there may have been a "pop" and with the amount of pain he was in - I'm guessing that this isn't going to be good news today. I don't know what the recovery is like from a torn hammy, but I'm guessing we may have seen the last of Knebel for 2018. Really hope I'm wrong.
  3. OK - let's assume what we all are thinking, and that we find out tomorrow that he has a torn hamstring. What does the recovery look like for a severe injury like that? Have we seen the last of him this year if it's torn, or is it possible he'd be back sometime in the 2nd half of the season? And doctors in the forum?
  4. I think a lot of what has been said in this thread (on both sides of the issue) have been pretty accurate. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I've been listening to Brewer games for well over 30 years of my life now, and Bob Uecker is Brewers baseball to me. Players have come and gone, but the one constant has always been Ueck on my radio every spring and summer. It'll be an incredibly sad day for me when Bob is no longer the voice of the Brewers, as it'll honestly feel like I have lost a family member. That might sound crazy to some, but I've most likely heard Bob's voice more throughout my life more than some of my family members. With that said, I also understand that he's clearly not a great PBP guy at this stage in his life/career, so I get why some of you (especially those under the age of 30) may have a higher level of frustration when listening to Uecker call games. As other's have stated - it would be great if they could work out an arrangement where he could shift more into a color role and have Levering/Grindle split the PBP, but I just can't imagine a scenario in which Bob would ever allow that to happen. I think he'd retire if the Brewers forced him down that path. Trust me though - Bob Uecker is an absolute baseball icon, and there's a reason why he's in the HOF. I think we need to just understand and deal with some of his shortcomings at this stage in his career and enjoy him while we have him. I too have listened to many of the other radio voices in MLB through my XM radio over the years, and Bob at 60% is still better than the majority of them that are working for other teams.
  5. Listening Saturday night, when Villar ripped the single down the left field line, they mentioned how he didn't run immediately, and had looked toward right field. Levering said "it looked like he wasn't sure where the ball was, like he didn't know it was a fair ball". Bob chuckled a bit and said "watch it there, you're leading me into dangerous territory here!" (paraphrasing). Got a laugh out of that. Like many others, I grew up with Ueck. It'll suck when he's no longer calling games. I'm not at all saying he shouldnt be behind the mic.... just that there's a noticeable drop off in his game calling. I'd love it if he was color man for all or most of the game, instead of trying to carry the action. That's just me. I don't want the guy off the radio, but I don't think it's unfair to say that he's not the most attentive game caller. RoCo - I'd be all in favor of him simply doing color and giving up the pbp, but you and I both know that there is probably no chance that he would ever accept that. I think he pretty much runs the show and calls the shots, and I'm guessing his demands are probably a big reason why guys like Powell, Block, etc. have all moved on for other opportunities that would provide them more air time.
  6. As a 40 year old, who's been a diehard Brewer fan my entire life - Bob Uecker is Brewers baseball to me. It's going to be an extremely sad day when we no longer have him calling Brewer games. I understand that his game calling has declined quite a bit in recent years (and to baseball purists - maybe he's never been in the top echelon of "game callers"), and I'm sure he's probably a bit embarrassed about his call of that big Braun HR on Friday night. But, as other's have pointed out - he is absolutely a national treasure that we need to enjoy while we still have him. I've heard Bob say more words than probably anybody else in my life, and the game just won't sound the same when I have to turn on a Brewers game without his voice and his stories.
  7. Just curious if there have been any recent updates/developments that we've heard about Jimmy Nelson the past 2-3 weeks. I remember reading some things right at the start of the spring training, but do we have anything solid about his progress since then? Have they advanced his throwing program yet? Is he pitching off a mound? Just wondering if things are still ahead of schedule, or if there have been any setbacks?
  8. I know a lot can and will change in a year - but let's say that we are in a similar spot next offseason where we just missed out on the playoffs and it is clear that we need to add another starting pitcher if we are serious about making a run in 2019. Outside of Kershaw (which we know we have no shot at), what other SP's will be hitting F/A next off season? Hopefully we have guys like Guerra, Woodruff, Burnes, etc. that take hold of some of the rotation spots this coming year and it isn't a big issue heading into the off season next year, but I'm just curious to know how next year's crop compares to this year? I still can't believe that we didn't end up with any of the top 4 guys this year, but I'm putting my full trust in Stearns that he knows a lot more than I do.
  9. That was Doug Melvin that nearly had Wheeler and the crybaby 3B (can't think of his name right now) for Gomez. Then, the Mets backed out of the deal and a day or two later we deal Gomez/Fiers to Houston for Hader/Phillips/Domingo/Houser. Yeah, guess that worked out pretty good for us! What is Wheeler even worth right now? I wouldn't be opposed to taking a flyer on a guy like that, but I wouldn't want to give up too much. How about Broxton for Wheeler?
  10. Has Houston been stretching McHugh out this spring as a projected starter, or has he just been getting time out of the pen this spring? What are the Astros needs right now? Do they need a 1B/DH type, or are we just grasping at straws here? I know as the defending champs, they probably don't have a ton of needs right now. Would they have any interest in Domingo? I'd want more than just McHugh for Domingo though. Maybe McHugh, Corbin Martin and someone like Jairo Solis? Is that too much for Domingo? Personally, I'd probably want more for Domingo than that package - but I get the sense that other teams don't value him nearly as much as we do right now.
  11. NO way am I paying $20 mil to Lance Lynn for one season. I might be willing to do that for Arrieta, but not Lynn.
  12. Now HH19 is saying that it is down to 20% by Monday, and most likely some time next week. Ugh, this is turning into a bit of a clown show at this point. Again - I hope the guy is right, but I think he just needs to stop throwing out percentages, because while some of his predictions have come right (whether he has a source or not), his percentages on when things will take place have typically been way off the mark.
  13. Well, the good news is - we should know the legitimacy of HH19 and his source by Monday it seems. I want to believe the guy...I really do. But, I do have some serious doubts about why his source would continue to give him all of this information that he then takes directly to the message boards and twitter. Doesn't quite add up in my head. But again - I hope he's legit, and we get some Cobb news by Monday.
  14. The good news is that I think we have a smart front office that is very analytically based to make sound decisions on choosing the right FA pitcher that has the best chance to succeed in a Brewers uniform over the next 4-5 years. If that's Cobb, then I'll get behind the decision. If it's Arrieta or Lynn, I'll do the same with those guys. Or if it's a trade, then we'll know that they weren't really that high on any of the FA's left on the market, or at least not at the prices that they were commanding. In David Stearns we trust!
  15. So, if the JD Martinez rumors to Boston are true this afternoon - does that open up more conversations with other teams about Domingo? In particular, does AZ become more interested?
  16. I'm going to take that GIF that he posted as a sign that a Cobb signing should be happening any moment now. Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but I'm going to be awfully disappointed if we don't have some Cobb news by the end of the day.
  17. The only thing that's hogwash is suggesting that a lineup with that many players 26 or under has somehow plateau'ed. It's ridiculous. Way to ignore Heyward, too. And the growing pains for Schwarber are a pretty big deal considering he's got Prince Fielder like hitting pedigree. Unfortunately, I have to agree with this. That Cubs lineup is flat out scary, and I don't think we saw anywhere even close to their peak last year. All of their key bats are under 26 and I feel like many of them have the potential of just getting better over the next 3-4 years. Thankfully, their minor league pipeline appears to have dried up (finally) for awhile, so at least they don't have any more stud prospects on the cusp of joining this already potent group. But, they've been able to go out and buy the pitching help they've needed to supplement the home grown bats.
  18. The good news regarding HH19 going all-in now on the Cobb stuff is that at least we should know in the next couple of days if this guy is a complete fraud or if he actually might have a legit source? I have my serious doubts now (especially the way he's handling himself on Twitter), but I do hope he's right with this Cobb prediction. Of course, he could just be making an educated guess on Cobb (while not having any source with the Brewers), but I'd definitely have a bump in faith in him if Cobb to the Brewers plays out here in the next 24-48 hours.
  19. Wasn't great last year but it was his first extended look in the bigs. Dominated in the minors so I would be 100% on board with sending Broxton for a young controllable guy with upside. Looking at his minor league stats, I guess I wouldn't say that he "dominated" down there. Solid numbers, but certainly not Corbin Burnes 2017 type domination. If this deal would go down - what would we be looking to do with Cotton? Does he take one of the rotation spots? If so, that's certainly not an "all-in" type of move by the Brewers. Yes, there may be some upside with him, but we are talking about a guy who really struggled in his first full year of MLB action last year.
  20. Sorry, but there were a few people on here who ruined that opportunity. I respect that you stand your ground, I do. It does seem like the positive far outweighed the negative in terms of support for you though. I agree. I think the record number of visitors on this site that evening that you made the famous 9:00 post would indicate that there are plenty of people on this site that looked forward to your nuggets of information. None of us have any idea how accurate your info is, but I truly enjoyed reading what you had to offer. Personally, I would just ignore the naysayers if I were you. But, I can certainly understand how it would piss you off.
  21. Speaking of "old," does anyone else love the fact that the home page here still has a story on a Shea Vucinich in the lead spot! I realize that this site is just used as a fan forum now, but I remember the days when they actually used to write stories on prospects here - and the home page always gives me that reminder. And I'm pretty sure that Shea Vucinich has to love that his name will live on for years here on the BF.net home page!
  22. HH19 - I suppose you wouldn't take a few minutes while you are here to give us all an update on where things stand with the FA pitchers and any recent trade discussions?
  23. I mean, how much fun could a Stroman, Arrieta, Anderson, Davies, Chacin rotation be? Then, you'd have plenty of time to bring Jimmy back slowly - and if he's completely healthy come June/July, then he slips into the rotation wherever there is a need (either performance based or due to an injury to one of the five), and you may not even need to go out and get much pitching help at the deadline? OK, I'm going to stop dreaming now.
  24. OK - so even though there probably isn't much truth to this Stroman rumor - let's play along anyway. Why don't we trade Hiura, Woodruff, Peralta and Carmona to Toronto for Stroman. Then go out and sign Arrieta, and just go all-in on this thing! Then, turn around and trade Santana to Arizona for Pavin Smith and Jon Duplantier to replenish some of the farm system. Yay or nay?
  25. Well, that was a fun 5 minutes while it lasted! Thanks for the buzzkill Jose! Ha.
