  1. With the team struggling he might be trying too hard. He is better as a DH and not defending, however.
  2. This bunch has to have more strike outs than any other team in the bigs. We began to see this trend last season.
  3. I've seen enough of Sogard too. Does he have compromising photos of Counsell somewhere?
  4. I knew we'd stink tonight seeing we are on national TV. We also do this.
  5. I have seen a lot of people say that this team was built for 162 games, not 60. How so? Imagine having to watch this roster for 162 games? I'm thankful we only have to watch it for 60 games. We signed a bunch of guys that would be bench players on most teams, and promptly used them as starters. That is a bad idea from the very beginning. Hoping they could get hot for some odd reason seems to be a short term solution (60 games), not a long term solution (162 games). Yup, we didn't know we'd be minus Cain, that has hurt. Now that Urias IS healthy, he still isn't getting on the field due to our manager's inability to turn in a competent roster. If Counsell isn't going to play him why did we make that trade?
  6. It's just a bad lack of fundamentals. There's no reason to field that ball to the side and spin before throwing it. I've seen enough of Arcia. That goof drives me crazy.
  7. Will the Cards be able to play all the games that were on their schedule when it is all said and done?
  8. Rather see him leading off than Sogard. I just don't understand why Sogard is batting there, Cain is better in every way. If we're essentially getting Arcia and Sogard batting one after the other let's just put them 8th and 9th rather than 9th and 1st. I don't understand why Sogard is starting either. Frankly, I don't know why he is on this roster...
  9. The Cubs would be taking a huge hit if Anthony Rizzo and Jon Lester choose not to report. Being cancer survivors puts both at a much higher risk. How long have they been cancer free/in remission?
  10. I'm happy we're getting a DH, as I've thought we should have one for a long time. But, can someone explain to me how having a DH will help prevent a player from getting COVID? Seems more like something the league wanted to get implemented, so they're using COVID as a cover to get it put in place. I wonder if it was the players who want the DH...
  11. I don't think any fall sports are going to happen. Pretty amazing to see the contrast in states with COVID going away vs. exponentially increasing right now. I think you guys are still viewing this from a March perspective when we thought there was a possible 3-4% mortality rate associated with COVID. I'm pretty confident that the fact that there is very strong evidence that this is a lot less lethal than we had originally feared is definitely taken into consideration and is absolutely part of the reason we haven't really seen resumed lockdowns despite rising cases. I don't think this virus is as lethal as folks thought it was in March. It must be taken seriously by people who are at risk like older folks and those with pre-existing conditions. But it will be difficult to practice social distancing playing sports like baseball and especially football. I doubt there will be another lockdown even if cases continue to spike unless the hospitals are over run but I don't see that happening.
  12. I have a strong feeling there will be no baseball in 2020. There will be no contact sports of any kind until a vaccine and/or we develop herd immunity to this virus.
  13. The Tampa Bay Rays are opening up Tropicana Field for individual workouts tomorrow. Of course FL is almost ready for Phase 2 in reopening the state. https://www.tampabay.com/sports/rays/2020/05/22/rays-expect-15-20-players-at-trop-for-first-workout-monday/ https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/marlins-rays-set-to-reopen-facilities-to-players-for-individual-workouts-reports-say/

  15. Maybe, but it will depend upon if there is a proven treatment and/or vaccine in the coming months. With having no sports at all for most of the spring I have a feeling fans will welcome games again even if they cannot attend in person. I think it will depend more on the availability of fast and easy testing. We aren't going to have a vaccine anytime soon. At least, not one we know works. A treatment is more promising in the next 12 months, but there's probably not a perfect silver bullet treatment for this. And testing might not be the end all. Dr. Fauci said today that testing will give us a better idea of the extent of the infections but only for the time period of the test. You could be tested on Monday and be fine but then on Friday you're sick.

  17. If the league has a Cactus/Grapefruit League what happens to the minors? Aren't most of these stadiums normally used by each team's minor affiliates after spring training?
  18. It's easy to feel discouraged and fearful in this time but the technology we have to combat viruses is incredible and scientists from around the world have dropped everything they were doing to work on COVID. It's not the first pandemic and it won't be the last but we'll get through this! And given what a tough time it is, it would be especially nice to have baseball back. That's why it is great to know that MLB is trying to make it happen in some form or another. Boy, I sure hope you are right. This is a strange time in our lives. We really cannot go on like this indefinitely - everyone in hiding and most businesses closed. I posted the above when I heard we might be living like this until there is a vaccine so I got super depressed and fearful. We have to make sure the 'cure' won't do more damage than the disease. I too miss baseball and other sports.
  19. Then we all better be prepared to be in quarantine until Christmas. It will probably take that long for a vaccine to be developed and deemed safe to dispense to the public. And I doubt a vaccine will actually cure it. These kinds of viruses, once they appear, really don't go away. And they often mutate. I fear our lives will never be normal again and the upcoming depression will be disastrous for this country. Be prepared for worse unemployment than we saw in the 1930s.
  20. As long as I can remember. No reason to risk any injury to a pitcher batting in ST. Plus it gets a few more AB for a position player. I never knew that. I guess I haven't paid a lot of attention to spring games in past seasons.
  21. Have they always used a DH in spring training?
