  1. I'd be shocked if we won the division or got a WC spot now. I suppose anything is possible but the team would have go on a tear of historic proportions to get back in contention.
  2. Yep. If we opened the crystal ball at the start of the season and saw that with 19 games left we would be a half game out of the Wild Card, pretty much everyone here would have said "I'll take that." It's a long season, so at the end of the year, teams generally end up playing around their talent level. It's interesting how the timing of hot and cold streaks can change how teams are viewed. The last couple of years, the cold streak happened early, so everyone gave up, but the hot second halves left people with hope for the future. This year, with the hot streak at the start, people began to believe that the team was better than they appeared "on paper," and the cold second half has fans headed into depression. Such is sports. When there's 30 games to go you can't just say "well, this is an 83 win team, so they are sure to hit a streak where they drop 14 of 17 games". Everyone is aware that things 'even out', but previous over-achievement is not a predictor of future events. a 'hot streak' does not require that an accompanying 'cold streak' evens things out. When you're 15 games over .500 with 30 to play, and just completely tank, it's not 'evening out', it's a collapse. And I can't see Mark A not do something about it after the season. This collapse is historic IMO. Roenicke might not be the culprit but normally when things go south the manager is the first to go because you can't fire the entire team. A thorough house cleaning from Melvin on down might not be out of the question.
  3. I think he'll wait until after the season to send any message. "Cleaning house" at this point wouldn't really accomplish anything. I'm with you. I doubt any heads will roll until after the season expires. This collapse by the Crew is really mind numbing for me. How can a group of players play so well for so long and then behave like they never played baseball before? The coaches and players behave like they are all in shock at what has happened.
  4. Yes, this collapse is noteworthy but so was our strong start so I agree with 'stache. We led the division for most of the season but BSPN didn't think that was noteworthy and only talked about us when we had that bench clearing brawl or Lucroy's push to start in the All Star Game.
  5. 1. Real fans don't stay home when things go bad. 2. If you stay home because of a losing streak of a playoff contender, stay home when they win too- don't need ya. 3. Easy thing to say others are doing it too (staying home/lot of Cardinals fans), doesn't make it right 4. Need I remind you that we, as in Milwaukee, lost a team already in the 60's... your attitude speaks volumes why. 5. Band wagon hopper Don't you call out a fan on his/her fandome because they want to send a message that this level of play is unacceptable. I can't go to games. I live clear across the continent. I've been a fan of this franchise since the early 80s so I'm no band wagon hopper. But we fans shouldn't be happy with this situation either. What else can a fan do to express their displeasure? Write a letter to Mark A?
  6. Well, we didn't win tonight and I doubt we'll win tomorrow against one of the top pitchers in the game. Go ahead, roll your eyes. But this team does the same stupid things night after night. What in the hell was Braun doing trying to score in the first on a short fly ball? If he would have stayed put Lucroy would have brought him home. We have no clue on how to play small ball and get runners in with less than 3 out. Loshe had a bad night but the bullpen did a good job keeping the team in the game. Unfortunately we can't hit our way out of a paper bag so that bullpen performance was wasted. You don't lose 9 out of 10 games in late August/September and expect to stay in contention for the playoffs. The only way a fan can express his/her displeasure is to stay at home. It looks like some are. There were a lot of Cardinal fans in Miller Park tonight.
  7. It happens around MLB all the time though. It's generally just a given that a manager or GM will have an extra year added on no matter what if they are not getting fired at the conclusion of the previous season. I don't think MA will hesitate to can them both if we end up with a losing record. And who replaces Melvin? Craig Counsell? I dont' know if Counsell is ready for this job but it might not be the worst thing to go outside of the organization and look elsewhere.
  8. Why would having a contract thru a certain date make any difference? If your team tanks spectacularly like this you can't accept the status quo.
  9. I appreciate your enthusiasm but I fear you are cheering for a lost cause. I'll be shocked if we win more than 6 games before the end of the season. Fans should stay home and send a message to MA that this implosion is totally unacceptable.
  10. I secretly hope the attendance at these upcoming games is poor if only to send a message loud and clear.
  11. Trading for Parra was a good solid move. They tried to trade for Morneau Going into the season with Reynolds/Overbay at 1B was asinine. Parra was a good move and he made some good moves last offseason, but Mark A needs to send a message. You can't just sit on your hands and coast on the fact that the team had a hot start and that players you know are horrible had been somewhat decent for a couple months. Melvin should have known this would happen. Seems like a lot of people were afraid of all season of when the bottom would drop out, and yet Melvin just squandered a miraculous first month by letting the team flounder. Before the season began nobody thought we'd be in contention for a WC let alone the division lead. You are correct, we've all been waiting for the other shoe to drop. But who could foresee the disaster we have before us today?
  12. I've never been a big fan of Melvin tbh. And the situation at 1st base has been a real problem.
  13. Sure, the players are to blame but what do expect MA to do, chuck the entire roster?
  14. I don't hate RR but there is no way he can keep his job with the team playing like this.
  15. I'll be stunned if they win any against the Cards. IMO the Cards are going to win the division again and I hope MA is as sick of this crap as the rest of us.
  16. What is really heartbreaking is these 23 games can't be done with soon enough.
  17. All I know is if we miss the playoffs, and end up under .500 after being 18 games over .500 at one point, then the entire coaching staff should be fired. And no, I am not overreacting. I know the players on the field ultimately decide a game. But if our coaching staff, the guys who are being paid to evaluate those players, to identify and correct the mistakes they see, can't do anything at all to help save this team from completely imploding, then they do not need to be coaching in Milwaukee. This is a complete implosion. We're about to fall to 73-66. 7 games over .500. We were the first team in the Majors to 50 wins. That was on June 27th. We were 50-32. We are about to be 73-66. That means the Milwaukee Brewers have gone 23-34 since getting win #50. We are in a free fall that I would think to be pretty much unprecedented, even for this franchise. Unfortunately I'm with you here. This collapse is rather shocking, frankly, and I hope the coaching staff is fired after this season. We can't can the entire roster but clearly a change in direction is needed in Milwaukee. We have too much talent to play like a bunch of idiots like we have been in this sorry stretch.
  18. Why do I torture myself here thinking we'll score again?
  19. I wonder if we'll score here? It might be nice to get more than one run in this game.
  20. Yes, but right now the Crew is looking shocking like that team you just described.
  21. Opposing pitchers know we are free swingers so why should they throw a first pitch strike and give guys like Gomez a hittable pitch? Have him swing at garbage, get ahead in the count and make him look foolish screwing himself into the ground at strike 3. This bunch has no patience at the plate and it is a major surprise if one of our guys walks. Of course we'll get a walk and then the runner will get thrown out at 2nd or we'll hit into yet another inning killing double play.
