  1. Didn't realize Breaux is a FA. That dude is an absolute stud when healthy.
  2. I hate to beat the dead horse...but ever heard of something called Spring Training?
  3. I agree. Packers offer was for two years, but only around $9 million. Easy to see why he took the Raiders' deal. Betting on himself, though. This sounds just like a Ted Thompson offer to me........if they don't get Matthieu this is quickly becoming a debacle.
  4. What a whiff not out bidding that 1/6.5 Melvin got.
  5. That doesn't cover it. I nearly gouged my eyes out at the sight of this joke of a team "playing defense." Unbelievable.
  6. Kentucky, Michigan State, Gonzaga, Villanova subject to change in the next 36 hours a bit.
  7. Florio just ran off a stat that the Packers have signed 4 free agents with "names" in 25 years. We just did 50% of that in one day. This is uncharted territory for us. I think those like myself were more on the proactive "we need, I am nervous of it happening again" type of criticizing rather than being in a panic that we didn't do anything for the entire offseason.
  8. Agreed. This is the one guy I hoped wed stay away from. Guess it'll be cheer for JG time the next few years. At least they swooped in on someone they liked. (I like the idea of JG, but the age 25-27 version, not the old torn legs up version).
  9. I'm not sure this narrative is correct. I don't recall an offseason beyond Ted's first that the team had or claimed to have cap trouble. If anything, they've consistently been able to manage their cap efficiently and wisely. The issue is that the organization assigned values to players and a corresponding value they'd be willing to pay, and that prevented them from signing guys that could potentially help during these early days of free agency. The unanswered question is whether the new regime is willing to be less rigid about this than Ted was. It is also nice to hear about a willingness to use draft capital for established players. I think you can manage a roster more efficiently by giving up a 5th for a player at a position of need than by spending crazy money in early free agency. The beat folks are doing it right now even. "With only 20 million to work with" blah blah blah. I'm sick and tired of us playing the hard ball low ball game...is it too much to ask for once in a great while that "we need an upgrade and d***it all we like this guy and we're gonna be the first one on the door making sure we get him." ? I had some hope when I saw Wilkerson in town, but seems like more of the same...hopefully Joey is right and we have a different type of offseason. Agreed with you fully on using draft capital on proven talent to upgrade, would like to see more of it.
  10. What pisses me off the most is how many of these teams continually find a way to make moves despite the cap every year, while Green Bay gives the excuse of "not much to maneuver with," "we tried" etc. New England should have even more cap trouble than we claim to have since they never stop going to Super Bowls, yet they have no trouble finding players. This organization is really starting to wear on me so I hope something changes soon. If not I may not even watch NFL anymore...rather watch NHL and their no nonsense hard work ethic.
  11. Can this dude just sign somewhere so we can bury this thread? Feels like groundhog day every single day lately.
  12. On the positive side I think we might have a GM in Green Bay that is looking to deal.
  13. Better get ready for it, because it's coming.
  14. Browns are cutting players from the previous regime they no longer feel fit their style. Gordon is a STUD when his head is on right, which it finally appears to be. They likely could have traded next to nothing for his rights last year at this time, but no one knew if he'd ever be back. But now that he's back in the fold, they expect him to be a legit All-Pro-caliber WR1 next year. yea, "for now" lol. i truly hope the kid is right in the head now but he's only one bad night away from being donezos.
  15. I know its a pipedream, but wish we could have pried Gordon off of them too while they are wheeling and dealing everything. I guess it's just the old "Randy Moss-GB" coming out of me.
  16. I would guess there are big plans in store remaking the defense via FA. Hopefully they cut Clay Matthews too because he's served his purpose here. Heck if they really want to go big let Cobb and / or Nelson go and sign Allen robinson.
  17. I really love this deal. Sure Kizer could be a flameout but he was a project coming into the league and quite frankly when they reined him in he wasn't half bad. They had BAD talent around him and i'm not sure that accurately describes it. Now we don't necessarily need to draft a QB this year and moved up in the draft twice. Thank you very much I say.
  18. Nickell Robey-Coleman is good too at a much lower price tag.
  19. Are Talib or Wilkerson "premium talent" at this point? Suh, Sherman, Graham, sure. But Wilkerson? He's an intriguing reclamation project and could benefit from a reunion with Pettine, but he's had two pedestrian years in a row and just got cut. The worst thing we could do is pay Graham a Brinks truck.
  20. I don't want that Talib anywhere near this town. That dude is cancerous trash to a football team. Wilkerson has some attitude issues too, so even though I would like his talents here very much that could be a reason we (may) not end up signing him.
  21. Let me clarify. Yelich was "on sale" because if the Marlins weren't a joke of a baseball franchise he would have never been on the market to begin with period. end of story there. I think we paid slightly under retail for Yelich in terms of what we value... gave up a few bats that are very high risk/reward and a meh pitching prospect. None of what Stearns gave up fits his "mold" we think he is using of OBP. Cain on the other hand I agree fully, and really don't know why we did it, makes absolutely zero sense to me without a domino to fall after it. I have to believe there is still one coming here at some point before we kick off the season in the form of controllable SP (or a discount from the big 3), otherwise IMO it was just dumb. Doesn't mean I won't pull for Lo the next 5 years wholeheartedly though.
  22. I think "Go for it" is a very misused term by some here. "Going for it" was absolutely NOT what went on thus far this offseason. We (1) acquired a REALLY good OF that was on sale because his organization did not want him anymore because we had an elite farm system, and (2) signed a (right now and for a few years) REALLY good CF. There was no selling of the farm that went on here, nor has there been a free agent bonanza. Does Wade freakin Miley and Jhoulys Chacin at a bargain price constitute going for it on the pitching side? "Going for it" would have been landing Yu Darvish, making these trades, and most likely making a trade for Chris Archer (or similar), and then either making another good sized pitching trade now or at the deadline, leaving our farm pretty barren.
  23. Not young, but they are a "cheap" team. Shaw, Villar, Arcia, Thames, Pina, Santana etc are all making peanuts with several years of control with guys in the pitching and position ranks like Phillips/Burnes waiting in the wings to step forward.
