  1. Riiiiiight. Because Melvin and MA knew before signing Lohse that Ryan Braun, our league MVP, was going to get suspended for steroid use, and then have a season lost with a weird thumb injury. Lohse was signed to be a QUALITY innings eater and serve as a mid rotation option. Did anyone seriously think the guy was going to carry us to the playoffs? Come on. It's a draft pick...even the mighty Green Bay Packers have had their share of 1st round draft busts.
  2. Worst to first. Wouldn't that be an amusing slice of humble pie for everyone calling this team a turd. lol
  3. Just play Elian Herrera at 3rd base & put Ramirez in the assisted living facility.
  4. That list is like a horror show of pitching. McCarthy is OK, but now has tommy john. Blanton, Slowey, Bedard, Saunders, and Correia are downright terrible & not even in the majors. Pelfrey was horrific last year with the Twins (I witnessed he and Correia firsthand), but has been ok for a few weeks this season. Kazmir is the only one on the list that rivals Lohse imo. Well good thing we signed Lohse to help finish in the middle of the pack of the NL every year. Imagine if we wouldn't have signed him -- we'd have missed the playoffs each season & would still have the first-round pick we forfeited! That would be awful. I'd quit whining and moaning about signing a 3.50ERA pitcher signed at a modest salary of 11 mil & begin whining and moaning about the 6 foot 5 300 pound reliever we have making 10 mil per to blow games up.
  5. I have no use for Broxton. Pay him his 10 million and ship him down the road...what a waste.

  7. 3 errors !?!?!? what kind of horrific defense is going on out there?
  8. does anyone think this roster could win a World Series? It's not going to happen. Fans who only want to go to a Brewers game when the Brewers are winning are holding back the franchise. Yes, because Jeremy Guthrie, Alcides Escobar, Mike Moustakas, Omar Infante, Nori Aoki, etc sure looks like a World Series roster to me. As for the "only when they are winning" comment, what exactly is that supposed to mean? Why yes, us Brewer fans want to WIN GAMES. We have the talent on this roster to WIN GAMES. It's the beginning of May for goodness sake, can we wait until June or July before we start the losing discussion? As another poster mentioned, look at the 2012 A's...good thing they didn't throw in the towel & wave the white flag on their season in the middle of May.
  9. [sarcasm]I guess this qualifies as being fat[/sarcasm] By Mike Oz February 21, 2014 2:38 PM But since Montero arrived in Seattle, it's been disappointment after disappointment. That culminated this week when — according to Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times — Montero arrived at Mariners camp 40 pounds heavier than his target weight. What's more? Montero is coming off a 2013 season that ended with a PED suspension as part of MLB's Biogenesis scandal. A number of players are trying to make amends this season because of that, but Montero thus far has flopped the hardest. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-league-stew/jesus-montero-arrives-at-mariners-camp-40-pounds-overweight-after-ped-suspension-193833974.html
  10. 11-21 and 6 games back now (gained 2 on the Cards this weekend). 7-4 in their last 11 games, with 2 series wins (@CHC, vsCHC) and a split (vsLAD). If you cannot see a difference in this teams effort and results since Counsell took over and the stale voice was removed you must be blind. The team is now hitting, and just waiting for the pitching to come around. It is too early to make a decision on where to take the team yet, come back in June and revisit the situation once Lucroy, Gomez, and Ramirez are healthy and have had a chance to get in a groove..
  11. The Mariners still have Montero in AAA for 1B and he has been playing fairly well in AAA so far this year. Montero would actually be the person I would target in a Lind trade to the Mariners but I don't think they would trade Montero for Lind and the Brewers would have to add another more significant piece to get Montero. If the Mariners believe in Peterson over Montero he may become available but I still believe Montero is going to cost a little bit more than Lind. At best with Seattle for a Lind trade you are probably looking at 1B/3B Patrick Kivlehan or LHP Tyler Olson. Jesus Montero? Last I heard that name he was fat and the team couldn't stand him. Wouldn't surprise me if they secretly wanted him gone.
  12. I feel prospects are undervalued by a good portion of posters on this website. For years there have been a ton of posters that have just shot down any thought of trading guys while their value was high for prospects that could help in the future with the idea that we were "close" and just needed "a few pieces" to push us over the edge to contender status. And now look where the team is. What else is more valuable to a small market franchise that can't outspend pretty much any other team than young, talented, controllable players? That should be incredibly valuable to the Brewers and anyone who is a fan of the Brewers. Gomez needs to go, that is undoubtedly a smart thing to do. Parra can cover CF just fine. I don't think Lind needs to go, he is precisely what this team has needed for years (and needs more of). The problem lies within how this roster has been constructed the past several years, and the philosophy of the offense. If we had more balance L/R and decreased the focus on home runs, we would be more competitive. The freakin team was stacked with RH hitters in a RH heavy pitching division for years, and we relied on the long ball. Sounds super smart to me! Platoons with cheap/midrange guys (Joyce/Davis, Lind/Lucroy, etc etc) would allow us to spend more on pitching. We don't need to destroy the roster...we need to be smarter about how we construct things. Trading Gomez will fetch great prospects that we desperately need, and it will be another step towards deleveraging ourselves from RH heavy swing out of his shoes hitters. Lind on the other hand, I don't want traded unless we blow it up, and even then I don't know if I want him gone.
  13. There is no hate here, I don't hate them either. What I do hate however is how much they are OVERvalued by a good portion of the posters on this website. I get the impression at times that people think if we just unload Gomez, Lucroy, etc we're going to get these surefire automatic stud minor leaguers who will be all-stars in a few years. No, the grass is in fact NOT always greener on the other side.
  14. So the Pirates are a whopping 3 games better than us right now...does that mean THEY should blow it all up too? Way too much hoping going on here for a massive rebuild...it isn't happening.
  15. Khris Davis taking 2 walks last night is a sure sign we've turned it around...that's the equivalent of flying pigs landing in Miller Park.
  16. Enough. Krod has pitched very well this season. He's done his job. Another W!!! Sure would be nice to win the series tomorrow. Let's go Fiers! 5.5 out of the wildcards...and 5 of 7. I'm still very skeptical we sell anything if this continues.
  17. Based on what? A career minor leaguer (Clark) and a guy with a .727 OPS in 22 AB this season can do the same job as arguably a top 5 if not the best splits hitter in baseball can do? This is what I mean by people becoming enthralled by the mythical "prospects." Rogers and Clark are only a couple years younger than Lind at this point, why are they going to get much better than what they are now?
  18. Thing is, we could actually trade Gomez and continue to pseudo-compete (via a Gold Glove CF in Gerardo Parra) for a playoff spot if the deadline rolls around and we're within striking distance. Is Parra = Gomez? No, but he's a competent fill-in. It's imperative we trade Gomez this season IMO, if we can get a good haul for him I would like us to hang onto Lucroy. There's a ton of money coming off the books at the end of the season and it wouldn't be that hard to field a competitive team in 2016 if constructed right. All these folks calling for 3 year rebuilds are insane IMO, we don't NEED to do that, we just need to organizationally be smarter about how our roster is constructed until the Arcia's of the world are ready. Doug? Mark? Is that you? First of all if we trade Gomez I am pretty sure they are not going to attempt to compete. With that being said you have 3 major hole in my opinion with possibly a forth. Biggest concern is 3B and the lack of options, next is at least one hole in the rotation, and then once again figure out the bullpen . Money or not you would be gambling just like this year...any more gambling and we may be crying for a good 5+ years if it doesn't work. You see, that's just what i'm talking about...such a defeatist attitude. Who is to say these mythical prospects out in the Land of Oz we're ALLEGEDLY going to get actually fix this team? What if they don't....THEN what do we do? It sounds so nice thinking we can just go get ourselves some 20 year olds and then have all-stars in a few years doesn't it? What if we trade Lucroy for someone like Correa, and then he either busts as a prospect or gets in a freak Kendrys Morales-like injury and ruins his career? That would be even worse than playing out Lucroy's contract. Why can't we do what the Red Sox did a couple years ago and sell a bunch of stuff but keep the cornerstones, and then sign smart FA's in the offseason and win 97 games the next year? Sure we don't have unlimited money like they do, but finding guys like Lind is attainable. Deleveraging the home run reliance on offense and upgrading the pitching staff gets us to the same result as a rebuild IMO. I refuse to believe this team is actually going to rebuild until I physically see it happening, so until then I am proceeding under the more likely guise of a "retool."
  19. Thing is, we could actually trade Gomez and continue to pseudo-compete (via a Gold Glove CF in Gerardo Parra) for a playoff spot if the deadline rolls around and we're within striking distance. 20. We have to make up six games on the entire rest of the NL. We are selling very soon. That is the whole point of bringing in Counsell, so he can oversee the rebuild. There are 9 SUB .500 teams ahead of us, and the wild cards are 13-10 and 14-12, one of which we just took a series from in their own park. The NL is not a good league right now. This month we play 3 vs LAD, 3 vs CHC, 3 vs CWS, 3 @ NYM, 3 @ DET, 4 @ ATL, 3 vs SF, 3 vs ARZ 14 home games, 10 away games. Arizona sucks, San Francisco has looked better lately but they have been poor, the Mets are the Mets, the White Sox suck, and we should take the Cubs series. Quite frankly, if this team gets a whiff of a "new manager" spark that happens with many teams, we could be sitting somewhere in the range of 24-26 at the end of May (a 16-8 month). Sorry but that's just what MA is looking for, and if this team looks a whole lot better under new guidance Lucroy will be coming off the DL, Gomez is cheap for another 1.5 years, and the team would be coming around as a whole. That's not a "SELL" team to Mark. One win doesn't cure an 8-18 baseball squad, but I saw a different team out there tonight...and a team as streaky with the bats as this one is bound to swing the pendulum the other way pretty soon. The fat lady hasn't sung here yet now that RRR is gone.
  21. 6 games out of a wild card...not to rain on anybody's parade but there ain't gonna be any selling going on for the immediate future, if at all.
  22. Braun hustle, Gomez jumping up and down after scoring...KRod dealing...looks like the weight of the world has been lifted off these guys shoulders to me. #counsellformvp
