THIS. If we get a "relief rally" with a new manager I don't forsee any sales going on in Milwaukee unless it's trade deadline day and we are OUT of it. Any shred of hope for the playoffs will keep MA wanting to keep the team together IMO...that's the skeptic in me.

I don't understand the infatuation with Counsell either. Guy was a horrific example of how to bat, seems pretty arrogant, and the crutch of "he is one of us" is used too much.

6-18...all we need is a 12 game winning streak and we're back in the playoff chase! LOL If Ryan Braun keeps smacking a HR every day it might be a possibility.

Jonathan Lucroy Trade Challenge

If Melvin trades Lucroy for that, I'm lighting a bus on fire outside Miller Park. Some of these proposals sound roughly equivalent to what we got from Los Angeles for a half season of Greinke. We are trading almost three years of Lucroy, the return should be massive. No way should we settle for something we could get from a desperate team at the All Star break in 2017. It's not enough, but Castellanos has some pretty serious upside. If things went right for him he has a chance to really show something in the coming years...not to mention he has proven he can already stick at the MLB level. It's not a stretch of a trade, but i'd ask for a bit more. -
Talk about restocking the farm system. Wow. Hopefully Attanasio is pissed off enough to trade majority of the team. I cant imagine the haul we could get for the above listed players. After how "mad" he was at the end of last season, I really would hate to see him in the state of mind you describe. He was so mad last fall he said we'd get answers and solutions for what happened...we still seem to be waiting for those answers and solutions however.

You better start preparing yourself for disappointment then...Ramirez will retire, we will patch up 3B with another 30 something, add 1 or 2 other pieces and then be sold a bill of goods that we "can do it this time" before Gomez is a FA.

That wasn't pretty, I think our boys were spent. We shouldn't let tonight overshadow the incredible progress we saw this team make in 2014-2015. I am really excited to see what next season brings, and to see who we get in the Draft. Also will be very interesting to see if we dip into free agency, or sit until next offseason before plunging.

I posted the following in the game day thread today. If my eyes don't deceive me, we're 7.0 games back of a wild card spot right now. That is playing the absolute worst garbage type of baseball known to mankind. If anyone really thinks we're going to sell players in the beginning of May back 7-7.5 games they're out of their minds..Doug and Mark have at least 1 more month to see how it unfolds before making a decision on the rest of the season. If the Brewers go ~17-5 (they can do it with the streakiness of their bats, there is two sides to the coin) in the month of May they enter June at .500. Currently the Wild Cards are playing .500 ball. There won't be ANY selling of anybodies until at least June IMO, unless Doug and MA really decide to implode it regardless. Now, I am not one selling playoff hope, because the odds are probably less than 1%. But it is too early and MA will still see the sliver of hope, so it will be a month or two before we sell much of anything IMO.

The Mets need a CF bad, and look like they are on the cusp of turning themselves from the rebuild phase into contending. They had him once...so would they take the new and improved version of Carlos Gomez again? I'd look into trying to get ahold of Noah Syndergaard or Steve Matz for Gomez and a piece if needed. The Mets are loaded at pitcher between deGrom, Harvey, Niese, Gee, Colon, Wheeler, Syndergaard, Matz, etc and might be willing to part with one. Anybody else thought about this angle? If we could deal Gomez for Syndergaard or Matz, and then get Seager (see the Dodger thread), we just massively upgraded ourselves.

Hey look....another loss. At this point let's just go 4-159 and get this over with. Would we get the #1 AND the #2 overall pick for that otherworldly record?

I think we may need to sweeten the pot a bit to get Seager, but you aren't that far off in your assessment imo. If we could get Van Slyke from them too it'd be a double score. What exactly would Peralta, Sardinas (Rollins on his last legs) and Davis command from them?

That's probably fair value, maybe a bit high for Peralta, probably a bit low for Lucroy. However, and this is a big however, you obviously would never get that combination of people in real life. Looking at value is fine, but in reality, you not only have to find a team that has a need for a Lucroy, or a Gomez, or a Peralta, or a Lind, etc., but they have to have and be willing to give up commensurate value. So which team would trade for Lucroy and have and be prepared to part with two top 50 prospects? Same question for Gomez and Peralta and Lind and whomever (adjusting for return value, of course). That narrows the field of potential trade matches by quite a bit. So while Lucroy may be worth Swihart and Nola and then some, Boston doesn't have Nola, and their other top 100 prospects are Yoan Moncada (9), Henry Owens (20), and Eduardo Rodriguez (87). Does Boston value Lucroy enough over Ryan Hanigan to include Moncada and Swihart, or Owens and Swihart? Is Swihart and Rodriguez plus some lower level guys enough? Would they even part with Swihart or Moncada in the first place (I've read no)? The difficulty in getting the right kind of value back is one reason I am almost positive that Attanasio is not going to go through with a total rebuild, even if that's not a great reason. Heh, wouldn't that be funny if we ended up with Moncada after all.

I will have to eat my words I guess, but I really like what OJ Mayo has brought to the team. I thought he was toast last year...but the way he got right up in Butler's face last night was just what we need. Jimmy is really giving Giannis and others fits out there, but when Mayo comes in that all changes. I really hope Mayo can continue to embrace his role & mentor these kids to become more tough mentally. If we get a good offer for Henson I would take it, but I don't see a NEED to move him...he's good bench depth with more upside if he can ever put it all together. He's still young and it takes some people longer to physically and mentally mature than others...there's still time.

This lineup would be a lot like the line ups of the past 3-4 - mediocre. If all things worked out really well, they might even have a playoff chance. It could also fail miserably, just like this year. Then 2016 rolls around and you lose your all-star CF and your starting 1B. And age won't do any favors for Braun, Luc or Garza. It is a recipe for mediocrity. The club knows it well. As you noted, based on our past history, we'll likely see this more than we would a total rebuild. I think if we deleveraged ourselves from the home run ball a little (like Lind), it would help the team quite a bit. Also we have been way too right handed in a predominantly RHP loaded division too for years. The roster is poorly constructed for that reason & if it was repaired I think we'd see a much more competitive team. Ideally Taylor, Harrison, etc would be able to take over in CF in 2017 if we went that route.

The grass is always greener on the other side...that's why the prospects are being perpetually overvalued around here. From a pure baseball standpoint this team isn't THAT bad for the 2016 season. Add a couple competent bats like Lind who take pitches and make good AB's. Guys like Matt Joyce who can be platooned by another cheap guy like Davis, Chris Denorfia, etc. Wasn't very long ago on here either everybody was wanting Jordan Zimmermann either...my how a month changes perspectives. 1) Zimmermann 2) Lohse (if he comes back to normal and would sign a 1 year deal) 3) Peralta 4) Garza 5) Nelson C - Lucroy 1B - Lind / Rogers 2B - Gennett / Sardinas / H Gomez etc SS - Segura 3B - Freese (?) LF - Joyce/Davis CF - Gomez RF - Braun/Joyce 2017 rolls around and if Arcia is ready, you bump Segura to 2B and either trade/cut whatever to Gennett, and do whatever needs to be done with Sardinas. I'm all for the rebuild, but let's not kid ourselves...that is a much better lineup on paper & Attanasio would go for that over a rebuild 9 out of every 10 times. I think as a fan most of us would take that and hope too.

I guess looking at the usual MA side of things though...Ramirez, Lohse, and I believe Brox off the books after the season...maybe sooner if we trade them. Sign a piece or two more and claim issues are "fixed" and we go for it yet again with this core while we still have Gomez cheap. I think people are getting a little overzealous about a complete teardown...that isn't how things have worked here in recent times. I might still put the money on hope & signing pieces than ripping the roster apart, even though it's the right thing to do.
