  1. Not much hitting for the Mudcats today. The Orioles' number one pick from last year, Cody Sedlock, pretty much dominated. Will get in the link report when the story is reported.
  2. Carolina game story from Frederick News-Post
  3. Mudcats game story. Mudcats survive, win 15-11 on opening night
  4. Carolina 15, Frederick 11 Recap If ever a recap was inadequate, this is it. No story posted yet. I'll add that later if available. Box Score Mudcats blew a 10 run lead and then came back to win the game. Luis Aviles 4-5 (HR, 2B, 3 R, 4 RBI, 3 SB), Trent Clark 1-4 (2 BB), Isan Diaz 2-5 (2B, 2 R, 2 RBI, 1 BB), Lucas Erceg 2-6, Max McDowell 3-6 (2 R, 2 RBI, 2B). Jake Gatewood had 2 walks and a HBP along with a double. Troy Stokes hit a massive home run. Corbin Burnes went 5 giving up 2 hits and 1 unearned run while striking out 5 and walking 1. Game Log Carolina Top of the 1st Trent Clark walks. Weston Wilson strikes out swinging. Isan Diaz doubles (1) on a fly ball to right fielder Austin Hays. Trent Clark scores. Lucas Erceg singles on a ground ball to left fielder Randolph Gassaway. Isan Diaz scores. Jake Gatewood walks. Lucas Erceg to 2nd. Max McDowell strikes out swinging. Luis Aviles homers (1) on a fly ball to left field. Lucas Erceg scores. Jake Gatewood scores. Troy Stokes homers (1) on a fly ball to left field. Carlos Belonis walks. Pitching Change: Franderlin Romero replaces Keegan Akin. With Trent Clark batting, Carlos Belonis steals (1) 2nd base. Trent Clark strikes out swinging.
  5. Just got back from Frederick. Akin, the Keys' starter, was a top draft choice for the Orioles last year. He looked like he was throwing pretty well but with little control. When he started steering it in, he got hit. There were massive winds blowing out to mainly right field which made fly balls interesting. Huge game for Luis Aviles. Burnes was the only pitcher in the game who looked in command. It was cold and windy though. Maybe not as bad as some days in Appleton though.
  6. Major rain in Frederick all day. It is supposed to stop around 5 with game time 7 O'Clock (Eastern time). I presume they will do all they can to get this one in since it is opening day for the Keys (named after Frederick native Francis Scott Key of National Anthem fame by the way). In addition to Corbin Burnes starting tonight, the Keys list Kodi Medeiros, Cody Ponce and Marcos Diplan as the starters for the rest of the series. Keegan Akin now projected to be the opening starter for the Keys.
  7. Jose Sibrian, the Dominican League catcher. He was the best catcher in that bunch last year and batted 3rd when in the lineup. I suspect he is a better hitter than the numbers indicated last year and spent at least some of the time injured.
  8. Hughes/Cravy FIP 4.68/4.35 WHIP 1.416/1.165 H/9 9.4/6.7 HR/9 0.9/1.0 BB/9 3.3/3.8 K/9 5.2/7.0
  9. Just got tickets to the first 4 games in Frederick. I'm not sure I will make all 4 but we'll see. I will be by the visitor's dugout if anybody else is going from the DC area.
  10. This would be an easy problem to fix. Just deny the school the replacement scholarship until the player's class graduates. One year--you lose a scholarship for 3 years. If the player doesn't go to class semester 2--lose the scholarship for 3 1/2 years (assuming one semester's successful study).
  11. Gennett has the better lifetime OPS. He is also 3 years younger than Forsythe and has been much better at the same age. Maybe he won't improve as Forsythe has done the last two years but there is still that possibility despite all the hate he gets here.
  12. The quest to sign every Tommy John pitcher in the world continues.
  13. They should trade the Bucks for the Nashville Predators and the right for the Brewers to field a AAA team in Nashville. Predators are worth about $270 million, the average NBA team is around $500 million.
  14. These projections seem to me to be wildly optimistic. Career in MLB: 21 HRs in 633 at bats. OBP=.296. Career OPS=.727---Scooter Gennett .738. Maybe he's better now but I doubt it.
  15. While he's not a good catcher, Coulter could serve as an emergency catcher for a weak team. That would be one way for a team to carry him.
  16. They need to get their 2017 schedule posted. Other teams in the league already have theirs out. Looks like they start at Frederick, which is only 30-40 minutes for me.
  17. Personally, I would move Harrison to A+ and let Clark stay at Wisconsin at the start of the year. The simple reason being that they will need to make a decision on Harrison sooner.
  18. I absolutely agree with that Hammer. I've seen him moving the bat around as the pitch is on the way to the plate. That may be a lot of his problem last year.
  19. Tebow does it all: saves fans life I wonder you guys didn't want to sign him. Maybe he could have prayed for another team to trade for Garza!
  20. Link Tebow homers on his first instructional league pitch (off the Cardinals!).
  21. Played for the Camden Riversharks in 2015 link. Presumably, he is now out of baseball.
  22. Glad to help MH! I would say Jose Sibrian, while he didn't hit a lot, seemed to be a quality defensive catcher especially when you compare him to the other 3 catchers they signed last year who sometimes struggled defensively.
  23. DSL Brewers 4, DSL Angels 2 Jesus Brea, who normally pitches in relief, started and went 5 innings. He gave up 5 hits and 1 run while walking none and striking out 5. Henry Medina worked the final 4 innings and picked up the win. DSL Brewers Box Score The Brewers only managed 5 hits in the game and were aided by 3 Angels errors. Antonio Pinero was 2-3 with a double. DSL Angels Top of the 4th==May be repercussions from a play a couple of days ago. Angel Molina grounds out, third baseman Aaron Familia to first baseman Moises Perez. Miguel De La Cruz grounds out, second baseman Edwin Sano to first baseman Moises Perez. Oscateri Castillo doubles (6) on a line drive to center fielder Jesus Lujano. Cristian Gomez triples (4) on a line drive to right fielder Bryan Connell. Oscateri Castillo scores. Defensive Substitution: Luis Avalo replaces first baseman Moises Perez, batting 4th, playing first base. Joel Borges flies out to right fielder Bryan Connell. DSL Brewers Game Log
  24. DSL Tigers 4, DSL Brewers 1 (6 1/2 innings--rain shortened) DSL Brewers Box Score Moises Perez was back for this game, caught 3 innings and left after being hit by a pitch. (It was probably just their normal catching rotation policy). Bryan Torres replaced him and went 1-1. Javier Castillo doubled which was the only other Brewers hit today. Jenri Montas went 4 innings and took the loss although he actually put up some decent numbers (4 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K). DSL Brewers Game Log
  25. DSL Rockies 3, DSL Brewers 2 (10 Innings) One of the better starts of the year for the Brewers by Harold Chirino (8 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 8 K, 10/4 GO/FO) was lost when the Rockies scored in the bottom of the 10th. Moises Perez did not appear in today's game and with Jose Sibrian also out they look to be down to 2 catchers now. Jesus Lujano had a single, walk and stolen base. Javier Castillo hit his 2nd home run of the year. Luis Avalo caught the entire game and went 2-4 with a double and a stolen base. DSL Brewers Box Score DSL Brewers Game Log Both Brewers runs scored in the 2nd inning: DSL Brewers Top of the 2nd Nic Pierre pops out to third baseman Franklin Garcia in foul territory. Javier Castillo homers (2) on a fly ball to left field. Aaron Familia flies out to left fielder Welington Chal. Luis Avalo singles on a line drive to right fielder Jose Grullart. With Yorki Franco batting, Luis Avalo steals (4) 2nd base. Yorki Franco singles on a ground ball to first baseman Hidekel Gonzalez. Luis Avalo scores. With Luis Avila batting, Yorki Franco steals (2) 2nd base. Luis Avila strikes out swinging.
