  1. People really think Nelson will be a significant contributer in 2018? Really? He is barely tossing off a mound and it's mid July. His "return" is almost certainly being used as a decoy in trade negotiations.
  2. Which means the price for Realmuto just went up.
  3. Stearns will bring in someone big. He has to. He can't quit on this team two years in a row.
  4. I wish we had a like button for posts like this.
  5. No. He is a good but in no way a great player. I'm happy we have him as a solid addition but he isn't elite.
  6. That’s why I think Stearns will do something during the ASB.
  7. Slightly OT but how do professional athletes in their prime get gassed playing a game in the middle of a season? I agree with your post based on how they look. but just curious with today’s conditioning, nutrition, and hydration should make this unlikely. The Pirates are playing in the exact same condition.
  8. That lineup looked like Counsel trying to send a message to Stearns to get him some real hitters.
  9. I’m as high on Hiura as anyone but he clearly isn’t ready so he isn’t an option in 2018.
  10. The Orioles are able to sit back and watch the offers come up hour by hour with all of the competition to land him. Supply is one, demand is many. They will still find a way to screw this up but they are sitting in a great position.
  11. Parker gone to the Bulls. No S and T. We found a way to get worse management than the Kohl years.
  12. Something like the Addison Russell trade with the As which means Hiura is definitely in a trade like that.
  13. Yelich is like Geoff Jenkins. I have no idea why he's revered on here. Ditto. He is definitely a good solid player that I'm happy he is here, but he is in no possible way an elite player.
  14. We are on borrowed time with Guerra. A complete smoke and mirrors job by DJ got him this far.
  15. If only it was as simple as you make it out to be. Machado guarantees us nothing in terms of winning the division or making a run in the playoffs. Of course I'd like our odds a bit more this season. The Cardinals played to be a ~90 win team for 20 years and won 100+ a few times. They won the World Series in seasons where they had 83 wins and 90 wins. There's an argument to be made that if you get in the playoffs 5 times with pretty good teams, it's better than making it 2 times with great teams. If we think the core we are building is a 90 plus win squad then I wouldn’t be opposed to riding this out and hoping we get hot in October. I’d lock up CC and DJ and make them our LaRussa and Duncan asap.
  16. If we get to keep Counsel and DJ then yes you make this trade 10 out of 10 times.
  17. Are we fans of winning a WS or a fan of winning 85-90 games the next few years?
  18. The Bucks aren’t even in the discussion for the top two spots. I really had high hopes for this new ownership.
  19. Merrifield is really good if you’re an analytics guy. 4 WAR plus versatility plus lots of control equals a dream come true for today’s game.
  20. I don’t see the Orioles wanting Wilkerson or Broxton. Both are way too old for their needs and just aren’t good enough to move the needle on a trade for a guy like Machado who is one of the biggest rental names we’ve seen in awhile.
  21. Ortiz with 49 pitches last night. If the goal was to showcase him that didn’t go well. Is it conditioning? The guy just can’t seem to make his performance match his stuff.
  22. I’ve had Burnes going for Machado because Cespedes required Fulmer and Machado is better than Cespedes. As for Peralta I’m really torn on his value. He has been our ace so how do you trade him when we can’t replace him? But how do you expect a short rhp without ace stuff to be able to sustain his performance?
  23. I agree with you. Peralta has looked fine since being called up, but if I had to pick any of the three between him, Burnes and Woodruff to trade, I'd pick Peralta. He'd be a solid sell-high guy due to his nice start to his career. It’s funny how one start moves the needle that much on a guy. He would have been untouchable to most everyone here 24 hours ago. The question on Peralta is what do we have in him? The numbers say he is our ace but the stuff and the profile says he won’t be a long term rotation piece. How long can a delivery that hides the ball well succeed at the MLB level? That’s a real question For now I’d put him in the Junior category where his performance has been outstanding but in terms of trade value he’d go at a discount to his numbers.
