  1. It absolutely is. Add in the terrible contracts of Snell, Delly, and Henson, this isn't going to be a short term fix either. This team is in a tough predicament and I have absolutely no faith that they find a way out. Seems like 2020 will be the year for potential optimism. The problem is Giannis who sounds genuine but he can’t possibly stay with this mess. It’s like these owners literally couldn’t read a spreadsheet or know the cap rules when they signed these ridiculous deals.
  2. I'd rather a team likely to be completing with us for a playoff spot not land him.
  3. Having one star is pergatory. Not enough to win anything substantial but good enough to not draft high.
  4. You believe that rotation is about as good as they are ever going to be? I'll take my chances with Hader, Burnes, Peralta, and Woodruff. Then Ortiz, Brown, and Medeiros on the way. If they still need a Chacin type to sprinkle in at some point, that's fine. I agree there's no mythical 4-5 year window. If they stick to a true rebuild they could have a 10-12 year window, who knows. I said those three are as good as they are going to be. The list of pitching prospects you meantioned are just that. Prospects. The performers who are responsible for the current record are for the most part not young. If the next wave is what we hope fine but that's difficult to count on. What we do know for sure is our current roster is firmly in the playoff chase and they need help.
  5. Every GM in the history of the game has said his goal is to be a perennial contender. Classic GM Hot Air speak.
  6. That can’t possibly be the return because if it is it means we didn’t even try to land him.
  7. Well I’m right there with you but they are in prime WC position and their weaknesses are obvious and fixable. Stearns raised the white flag last year and I just don’t see him doing that this year when we are 12 games over 500 and leading the WC chase. We lost out on the playoffs by a single game and a Machado or even a Dozier type would certainly be worth one game in 2.5 months.
  8. What do you consider young? 9 members of the current 25-man roster are age 26 or younger, and another 9 are either 27 or 28 years old. Outside of 38-year-old Kratz, no one else is over 32 The key guys are in their prime now. The mythical 4-5 year window isn’t valid with this roster and actually with most any roster. This is the time to make the playoffs. As someone already mentioned a rotation of Anderson, Chacin, and Guerra is not a rebuilding rotation, it’s a rotation where they are about as good as they are ever going to be.
  9. This is not a young team and they are in the first WC position. They will make a big move to beef up the offense and likely another starter because you can’t count on any kind of Nelson effective return.
  10. He was never on a bust list. Guys who are picked 5th in the draft who hit 240 with way too many strike outs and don't play solid D aren't on the elite list.
  11. Scooter and Segura might be available blue
  12. I don't think Merrifield will cost significantly more than Machado if at all. He'd be a significant upgrade and have control to boot. If they get Machado, then Saladino/Miller rotate at 2B. If they get Merrifield, then Saladino/Miller rotate at SS. Either way they add a significant bat. So my plan B is Merrifield with Dozier (who's getting hot recently) a close 2nd. Merrifield is 4+ WAR player with versatility and 4 years of control. That's a Yelich level deal.
  13. As mentioned, Dozier is a 2nd half hitter and all GMs know that. He won't be cheap.
  14. I would assume "soon" means by Wednesday or so. I have no idea. He is the 10 yard line guy. Says the three are waiting for a call.
  15. Olney reporting its down to us, Philadelphia and LA with a deal to go down soon.
  16. That’s a pretty old group of players. That’s why we need Santana and Arcia to come back to 2107 levels because that is not a 5 year window roster.
  17. The hit and defenensive tools are still troubling though he has certainly taken himself off the bust list.
  18. Merrifield and Realmuto will cost a lot more than Machado.
  19. Every team should feel the pressure to make the playoffs or why bother?
  20. If Stearns is going after Walker, Webb, and Swarzak 2.0 he might as well save his prospects and work on 2019.
  21. 12 over and 5 All Stars. No one would have picked that in April.
  22. So it was a cap move made necessary by the insane contracts to Delly, Snell, and Henson. I don't think Parker is a good player and certainly not at $20m but to not even get a 2nd round pick from the 2nd pick in the draft is shameful.
  23. Looks like it's definitely going down.
  24. After today no one is playing until Thursday so I’d expect a deal by Wednesday at the latest. 5 teams all working the texts to the Orioles all day and night. I’d love to see the conversations between Mark A, CC, and Stearns.
