  1. Agreed. He is going to be 32 next year, has back issues, and will make certainly more than $10M per year, and more likely closer to $15M+ per year. He is a legitimately solid player but only for a stretch run. He doesnt appear to be a good investment in a longer term deal. We are only contending this year because everyone but Garza, Villar and Braun have had career years and even then we are two games over 500. The chances that our division will be this bad for the life of Walker's contact are limited. Live with Dubon/Villar/Perez/Sogard/NRI until Hiura is ready which should be 2019. Senzel is getting close and he was drafted in 2016 and Id think his bat profiles to Hiura though he will have more power.
  2. The guy will have made $17.2M this year. Even at a discount he is way out of our price range. Especially with Dubon and Hiura down on the farm.
  3. People used analytics as the be all, end all. K's do matter. "Clutch" is a word that analytics people hate but it absolutely does matter. Batting average matters. Good analysis on why just number crunchers aren't seeing the whole picture.
  4. You guys can read the same twitter chatter I can. But names like this are in the ballpark if you remember who we gave up for Webb and Swarzak and Walker is better than those guys. But again it really depends on how much cash is coming back. If it was a salary dump we'd give them some 29 year old who barely plays . Since they are giving cash, it's likely to be someone of some marginal value - assuming the amount of cash is meaningful.
  5. The names I've seen on twitter, for what it's worth, is Gatewood, Peralta, Nottingham. It's going to be a real prospect. Not top 10 of course, but not out of the top 30. It really depends on how much cash is coming back.
  6. Not likely. This is a salary dump and even with nothing coming back the Mets had to eat salary just to get rid of the player. Walker basically has negative value right now compared to his contract. We will see. For what's it's worth Twitter is throwing out some interesting names.
  7. It's going to be a top 30 prospect if the Mets are picking up some salary.
  8. Counsel has been fantastic. Yeah I'd like his bullpen to be better managed at times but it's a 3 man bullpen and he can only shoot the bullets he's given. He is one of the rising managerial Stars so if he is let go, he'd be hired almost immediately.
  9. From Joel Shermans twitter Walker is owed roughly $5M the rest of the season and I heard #Mets are eating some to complete deal with #Brewers
  10. Well it's not child's play for Ray, Clark, et al. Hiura by all measures is the real deal at least at bat and at the 9th pick in the draft he darn well better be. Trent Clark was a high school pick and much younger at Wisconsin. Corey Ray didn't really play in Wisconsin If part of your assumption that he will be a fast mover is the fact he was the #9 pick would Corey Ray, a #5 pick, make you not have that assumption? You can't assume a guy will move fast. It is like drafting for need, setting up for failure. I don't know they drafted for need. We were told in spring that we had 2B covered to the point that Villar was offered a $20M+ extension and his backup was released. I am assuming the Hiura pick in early June was not with Villar in mind. Whatever the reason, it does seem that Villar is no longer in the team's plans at least for the short term. For a playoff team, Walker actually is a logical pick up. The guy is pretty solid. If the Brewers were a better team I'd like this move a lot more. Right now it just seems like they are making up for releasing Scooter and paying Walker a lot to play for what might not even be a 500 team by seasons end.
  11. Well it's not child's play for Ray, Clark, et al. Hiura by all measures is the real deal at least at bat and at the 9th pick in the draft he darn well better be. As for Walker, his play is almost completely irrelevant unless he gets absolutely white hot from here on out. He is a FA so he isn't the 2B of the future. I'm really not sure what his purpose is here. Maybe the one guy gets hot and the rest follow theory?
  12. True. We were never in a position to sell. I guess Nelson and Knebel but what would be the point in trading them? I really don't understand trading for a 2B at all in what has turned into a lost season and Hiura not all that far off. Scooter has to be laughing at this development.
  13. Good God you people sure can whine. Some of you simply can't be positive about anything... it's quite something. Facts do not equal whining. Sorry you feel otherwise.
  14. Well the guy is a decent hitter and he probably only cost us his remaining contract. I'm sure we gave up nothing at all. We need a lot more than Webb, Swarzak, and Walker to get back in it but at least in the case of Walker we probably didn't give up anything of value. Still it's incredible that this team needs to trade for a 2B at all.
  15. He will fit right in, 569 OPS since the ASB.
  16. He gave up more than he got back in those two trades, therefore he over paid. It's just that we were desperate for bullpen help so he had no choice if he wanted the team to try and be competitive.
  17. FA rental. $17.2 M annual salary.
  18. 3. Stearns also values prospects not named Brinson and thinks the asking price for players is too high even if Brinson isn't included. Well he traded a guy hitting 359 for a guy who could only mange 2 innings before he was demoted; and he traded our 17th ranked prospect for a guy who will pitch about 20 innings or so on what is now a 4th place team then become a FA, so it does appear he is willing to over pay to get guys he wants. Ultimately it appears he made the right call not trading for Gray as the team is in full free fall and nothing Gray could have done would have mattered at this point.
  19. Anyone look at that Wisconsin lineup without Hiura? Ouch.
  20. I knew this MLB team was a horrible roster from opening day. Every analytics site said so. The eye test said so. Even Stearns knew it by how he put almost no thought into the bullpen. And yet even I got sucked up the first place in July start. This is way worse than had they just played to their norms from opening day. Well thank goodness for the Link Report.
  21. It's really only one of two things: 1. Stearns knows the MLB team is as bad as the analytics say so trading prospects is throwing assets away. 2. He did try but our prospects outside of Brinson aren't very good.
