  1. I don't agree with that at all(other than the fact that he's getting older...I'm still looking for a guy who can hit 30 HR's who's getting younger). Braun misses 15-20 games or so a year and produces every year. He's "injury prone" so to speak, yet he plays through that and puts up very good numbers. He'd have been the best offensive player on either LA or SF last year. There aren't a lot of .900 OPS guys available in season and while he's certainly not cheap, it's not like he's Vernon Wells. 4 years and what..76 million dollars really isn't that much for a contender. Not when a guy like Carlos Beltran is still getting 16 million a year at 40 years old. He is basically a 2 WAR player these days. Fangraphs projects him at 1.6. So at about $7m per WAR, Braun doesn't produce to his contract. Not even close. That's assuming he will be an elite offensive player by his 4th year, which is unlikely. Therefore any GM will view him as expensive and will not be giving us a prime prospect.
  2. Wasn't it recent that the Pirates were an up and coming young team? Look at that line up. Yikes.
  3. Flexibility is one thing but replacing Braun in LF with a Nick Franklin when you have 4-5 better options combined between your own roster and AAA is quite another. Exactly. Franklin has a OPS+ of 6. How he is on a major league roster is a mystery because his versitily is meaningless.
  4. Shaw is a just a guy who happened to have a hot start. I'd like to see him over a full season as he seems to be a very streaky hitter and his D is replacement level. Dubon is OPSing 658 in AA with 9 errors. What makes this trade a clear win for the Brewers at the moment is because Thornburg hasn't pitched. Assuming Thornburg pitches we will know more.
  5. I have no problem giving Villar a long leash based on last season.
  6. If you look at some of the hot starts as outliers, that is an expansion team 3-7 line up.
  7. Roache was a one dimensional player when he was drafted and that one tool was in jeopardy due to a serious wrist injury. How the Brewers thought he was a first round pick is amazing. We can not afford to draft poorly but that exactly what we have done for years. As someone mentioned earlier, Ray and Clark aren't looking elite at all and both were high picks, especially Ray.
  8. He's getting older, he is expensive (factoring in the length of the deal), and he is injury prone. Throw in his no trade restrictions and you know he isn't a significant trade chip anymore. These big name prospect returns aren't realistic.
  9. Agreed. As of now, I think the zenith is an Aaron Hill return, which is to say nothing. However, a quality May plus the Brewers picking up much of the contract could change that based on the absolute lack of any quality starting pitchers being available.
  10. 14 and 13 at this point in the season is fantastic. Any defense and pitching at all and they just might be a candidate for a wild card.
  11. At what point does a small sample turn into flip-flopping Harrison and Clark? First round picks get a lot of rope but certainly Harrison has to be close to getting a promotion.
  12. How much money would we have to eat to bring back these top prospects? Seems like at least half his deal based on the Tulo trade.
  13. No way the guys on our staff are our best pitchers. I really like the offense but no team can win with this pitching staff, from top to bottom.
  14. Clark and Ray have both been real disappointments so far. It's still early but we need to see both guys make the leap and be the top prospects they are drafted to be. Missing on first round pitchers happens, but OFers really shouldn't be the case.
  15. Meh, you can put anyone out in positions and say they are "doing it." We'll see what this looks like come years end. I still have no problem with cutting him. I guess the one you could say he maybe should've been kept over is Aguilar. Time will tell. That's the Stearns philosophy, versatility over performance. Exhibit Scooter vs what ultimately became Franklin.
  16. Mlbtraderumors says the Pirates tried to trade for him but couldn't strike a deal. I have no idea why a rebuilding team would want to keep this guy.
  17. Look at Bonds, who was the king of walks. Thats why I am saying Thames isnt just good, he is Bonds good, at least so far.
  18. Korea is nowhere compared to MLB. And if people thought stats in Korea mattered even half way, he wouldnt have been only offered 3 years $16M, there would have been a full scale bidding war. Occam's Razor suggests PEDs is far more likely than he is having a career year at 30. I have zero idea if he has done anything stronger than gummy bears, but lets face it, if he was a Cardinal doing this we would be thinking he found the magic Cardinal locker room stash.
  19. This is not at all what it's about. Other players and coaches should keep their yappers shut unless they have some proof. What bush league comments and about a guy for all they know may have just simply busted his ass back to where he is now. Tired of the witch hunts. You can thank Braun and that pathetic display the 90's stars put up in congress for that. Act like a man or the witch hunts will be part of the game. Marte showed its still very much in the game. I'd say most players "bust their ass" and virtually none in the 150 + year history of baseball put up these kind of numbers. People have compared him to Prince. No, Prince wishes he was ever this good. Thames is playing like Bonds at his absolute prime. So I'm going to enjoy Thames incredible year but as Brewer fans, look to LF if you're sick of the chatter. None of this excuses Lackey from being Lackey. But we have to expect the league is saying exactly what he said.
  20. So this is where we're at now? Every player who outperforms expectations - Eric Thames, Trevor Story, Jake Arrieta, Jean Segura...many others, we're just going to start throwing around PED accusations? The point is not that no one thinks he could be using or is 100% sure his performance isn't PED aided. No one has said that. I'm not naive enough anymore to think that there is anyone that for sure isn't . The point is that it's a total bush league move for a player and coach to accuse a fellow MLB player of it with absolutely nothing to back it up with. Especially when it's in direct response to the guy shelling you. That just reeks of sour grapes. Baseball players in general have to be the thinnest skinned people around. They live by this weird "code" of not being shown up. Bat flipping, really? When a guy comes from nowhere and puts up Barry Bonds numbers at 30 and looks like Thames, yeah, it's pretty darn expected. I'd suggest the Junior breakout year at 31 last season had that chatter as well. It just wasn't at the beginning of the season so the stats were more buried. As for what Lackey said, who cares? He isn't commissioner and he is just saying what you know most of the league is saying, justified or not. Baseball players as mentioned hate to be showed up, and that's exactly what Thames is doing now. Let's just hope he is doing it squeaky clean.
  21. It can't be that big a shock that he is accused of PEDs? He is 30 and was just signed off the bargain bin, then hits like Barry Bonds. To defend his performance 100% is to ignore the elephant in the room.
  22. There is zero reason to trade Thames at this point. No one is going to give much for him now anyhow no matter how incredible his April has been. Maybe next year this is a valid conversation but if he is putting up a 900 OPS at his cost, why trade him? He would be a franchise player at that point on a team that doesn't have too many of those.
  23. What an amazing turnaround for the Bucks to go from lottery to a wipe out of the #3 seed. Hammonds has no idea how to judge contracts or sign FAs, but my goodness the man can draft. G, Brogdon, and Maker?
  24. We have plenty of OFers in the system. Kirk serves no purpose. Let him find a home elsewhere.
  25. We aren't getting a TOR prospect back unless we essentially absorb all of Brauns contract, and even that I'm not sure.
